Always forget Neil Smith was an assistant to the Wings before going to the Rangers. Had a lot to do with that 1989 class of the Wings.

With Tyutin hurt I think the jackets will go after a D man and a RW at the deadline. They have been rumored in the Kesler talks but any trade for a center I think would involve Dubinsky and I really hope they're not that stupid.

random matty thought of the day: wisniewski is absolutely horrible. if you asked a casual hockey fan here who the best jackets defenseman was they would probably say Wiz just because he has a big shot and picks up points on the PP but wow is this guy lost in his own zone right now. He was basically singlehandedly responsible for the Panthers first 2 goals on Saturday.

Thankfully didn't sign here in Detroit that one summer. Wasn't real high on him but many thought here was on option. Speaking of guys with huge contracts, Dreger saying Wings among teams interest in Ehrhoff, but might not make moves if price doesn't fall, for him and others. I understand the Sabres wanting something in return, not just gonna give him away, but to get all those years off your books would be a good thing for them.

Datsyuk not playing tomorrow. They hope he's back Thursday. And Weiss has a setback. Damn.

Astute observation, my friend :thumbsup.

Wisniewski commands attention by the way he plays the game, and that's what makes him noticeable. He's got a great shot and the skills to run a pretty effective power-play. He's also extremely aggressive, will fight for his guys, etc. People notice that. Kinda like Dion Phaneuf back when he was with the Flames.

However, it's that over-aggressiveness that gets him into trouble. He plays a very undisciplined game, and not in the sense of taking bad penalties and such (which he does, on occassion), but in his positioning and other aspects of his defensive game. The times I've watched him, he's jumping on guys too quickly at the blueline, leaving the front of the net to chase a puck and overcommitting with the thought of making a big hit, thereby leaving his guys out to dry, and other such nonsense. This over-aggressiveness is also what prevents him from being that PP QB that he could be. He's simply not patient or calculating enough (notice in my first paragraph I said he has the "skills", not necessarily the "ability" - there's a difference.

Basically, if the dude would just chill out a bit on the ice and think a little, he'd be awesome.

At this point (not counting Miller trade), who will be the best player traded?

On the same day, Dubnyk is waived by the Predators. Ouch.

I would've said Kesler, but I'm not sure he'll go now that Sedin is down.

Also not convinced on Cally anymore after the news of more progressive talks today.

Probably Vanek?

For a defensively-randy fella like myself, Andrew MacDonald sticks out big time. I cannot believe that guy is taking home $600k/year right now. His game needs to mature a bit more (-19 this year on a defensively bad Isles squad), but enough guts (leads league in blocked shots this year), heart, and talent is there for me to be willing to invest in him. Will get a nice raise next season, while probably still staying fairly affordable.

Why is all of Corey Crawford's equipment going missing? First his stadium mask series and now the pads he's been wearing all season are gone. Crazy

Yeah this was supposed to be his big year, especially going into the summer as a UFA poised to at least get a good raise. Not so, now.

Hope you've got some good prospects lined up? More than Dubnyk will have after this season, hopefully.

Thanks gang. I thought it to be rather timely with the Dubnyk news. hahah

Trying to look at it positively. There is a chance I could be brought back in 5-6 months time, but a) I should have another job by then and b) given what I was told today I don't see the company surviing that long. 21 of the 50 staff is being told tomorrow that they are done. My manager is cool and took me for a drive this afternoon to break the news to me, and to give me the freedom of not bothering to show up tomorrow morning.

Manager fought hard to keep me, which was really appreciated but in the end couldn't make it work. I am gettin; 6 weeks severance rather than the standard 3 everyone else is getting, so that's a small win. Hopefully I'll get something new in a week or two and can parlay that bonus cash into a golf membership :thumbsup To add, it gives me a chance to look for a job in my true passion, golf.

At least there is some positives out of all of that. Plus day off for deadline day right?

I know everything Rossi says has to be taken with a grain of salt, but:

"As of Monday afternoon, nothing has changed on the situation– except that the Penguins feel division rival Philadelphia, in addition to defending champion Chicago, is emerging as a top challenger to acquire Kesler."

Those 21 out of 50 being let go tomorrow with only the 3 weeks severance instead of 6 are all Sabres fans.

bonzo48280 03-03-2014 05:56 PM

The Hawks definitely have the assets to acquire Kesler....

Huge win for the jackets tonight.

Ryan Murray left the game in the first period with a lower body injury and didn't return. That could be a disaster.

Some sources saying Kesler won't waive NTC to go to Blue Jackets. Big mistake.
