Re: The NHL Thread (Golden Knights are alright)
Brad Marchand is tired of the "dirty player" label.
http://nhl.nbcsports.com/2018/02/05/...?sf181375757=1 I think I know what might help the poor guy:

Also, him seemingly enjoying the "goon" label (look at his All Star game antics) isn't helping. |

Anyway, going to be an emotional night in the Paint Can tonight. Wish I could be there, as well. Should be a very entertaining game. |
Re: The NHL Thread (Golden Knights are alright)
Agreed, if Marchand was not such an ass with a history of suspensions and fines he would not have that stigma. He has no one to blame but himself.

Re: The NHL Thread (Golden Knights are alright)
I also freely admit I have no clue what constitutes goaltender interference these days. If the goalie or a defender starts the contact that results in the goalie being unable to play his position that is not the fault of an offensive players IMO. A few minutes ago the Hawks scored, an official review about whether a kicking motion was instituted and the league ruled it a good goal then Calgary challenged on interference and got the goal overturned. Pathetic, especially coming shortly after that Bruins goal that did count when Allen was pushed out of his crease TWICE. This is just too confusing to keep up with night in and night out.

How on earth are both of these good goals? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9oMBQb0UOk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HjSMovo2ySE Then in the Chicago game Johnny Hockey was awarded a good goal after a challenge despite the fact that his stick that tipped it in was clearly over the crossbar, even he looked down and shook his head after seeing the replay knowing it should not have counted but somehow the refs and toronto decided it was a good goal. Then calgary gets an empty net goal to make it 3-1 shortly before Kane netted one with 6+ seconds left. That rule needs to be changed - or at least the way it is interpreted. These days who the fuck knows what a good goal is unless it is COMPLETELY clear cut. |

Haha, I voted counted... hence the 50/50... what a mess, just st kill the interference challenge.

Re: The NHL Thread (Golden Knights are alright)
On first glance, I voted no goal.
However, looking a it more closely, yes the offensive player is at the top of the crease, but the goalie comes out and initiates contact and the defensive player makes contact with the offensive player right as the puck is at their feet. I have a very hard time faulting the offensive player, who is focusing on the puck, for falling into the goalie as the puck is at their feet. |
Re: The NHL Thread (Golden Knights are alright)
MAF tribute was amazing last night. Seeing him in tears on the ice during a stoppage in play had me all misty. Lots of people in the crowd were crying. Heavy stuff.

Re: The NHL Thread (Golden Knights are alright)
I am actually starting to get excited about the Rangers fire sale that is coming in the next few weeks. It has been 14 years since the Rangers went through one. We came out of it with a lot of hope and a team that has made the playoffs every year except 2010 when a shootout loss to the Flyers kept them out.
All of that said, the Rangers actually only got Brandon Dubinsky and Marc Staal out of the fire sale in 2004. The rest were either busts or players that wound up playing elsewhere. So hopefully the Rangers can get a little more bang for their buck this go around. The asking price for Nash is being reported as "A first-round pick, a top prospect, and another lesser player or prospect or pick." Not sure the Rangers would get all of that, but it is a good starting price. "The price for Grabner is expected to be more along the lines of a first-round pick. That's it." It will be very interesting to see how this plays out. |
Re: The NHL Thread (Golden Knights are alright)
With everyone being on a level playing field and so many teams still in the playoff race, the prices for assets are at all time lows. When you could just as easily make the playoffs as miss, teams don't want to give up that #1 pick because if you hit a slide and end up in the lottery you want your #1 pick. A few years ago Mike Green would bring you a for sure first rounder. He might not this year.

From 31 Thoughts:
2. Trade that might make sense only to me: something around Justin Faulk from Carolina to Detroit for Andreas Athanasiou. No...fuck you. |
