He's hurt. He has an abdominal tear or a hip problem, we don't know why he's still playing. I think he needs surgery.

Ah I wasn't aware of that. If he can maintain the level of play he was at in the playoffs his contract will be a discount imo.

Obviously, outside of Thomas, he was the best player on either team in that series. He evoked flashes of vintage Lindros (with his head up..ohhhhh). The guy was all over the place, but this injury he has really limits his speed.

Hell of a game going on in Detroit right now.

Felt that coming the entire OT.

Not sure about this. Krejci had 9 points in that series.

Detroit and Chicago have played 3 times and each team has gotten 4 points. These are the top 2 teams in the West, if you're asking this guy.

You have to put Vancouver in the discussion. If Luongo doesn't fall apart they're a very difficult team to beat.

Obviously the concussion has been a problem but if you look at it this way, he's still only 22. Also, he played college, which I think can put players back a step as far as their growth in the NHL.

True. But JVR just took over shifts. He dominated almost every time he was on the ice. Sure, Krejci had nine points, but against Boucher, Bobrovsky? It felt like JVR had scoring chances on the best goaltender in the league every time he was in the offensive zone.

Matt Read respectively replies, "Fuck you." :lol:lol:lol

I thought JVR was by far the best player for the Flyers in that series. I guess it's tough to compare his performance with Krejci's due to the other factors.

As long as Vingeault is the head coach and Luongo is the goalie, I would never trust Vancouver to mentally be able to make it through a series against either the Hawks or Wings, especially this year. Hawks had no business being in that series last year, and almost made it one of the biggest comebacks in all of sports. Hawks are better this year, and the Canucks aren't as good as last year. The way I see it, they are a level below the Wings and Hawks.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

They were within 1 win of the Stanley Cup last year. I also think they're mentally weak but you can't discount the fact that they've made a run in the past.

I do not think they have enough to get through Detroit or Chicago this year. Right now I would rank the West:

Chicago/Detroit
Chicago/Detroit
Vancouver
San Jose
St Louis
LA
Nashville

and after that it doesn't really matter. Vancouver gets such a bonus being in the division that they are in, that it always makes it look like they are such a great team, even though last year they were very good. This could be the second year in a row that they are the only team from that division going to the playoffs, and the two years before that saw Colorado and Calgary getting knocked out in round one. I can just never buy into Vancouver, but I also only see them when they are mentally handicapped.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

I should make the point that these are ranking teams with the best chances of winning the west, not where it stands right now. Obviously Vancouver is playing better right now, and have been for the past month than Detroit and Chicago.

I thought that about the Wings early in the third.

Great game. Seemed like a great atmosphere at The Joe too. Almost like a playoff game.

Also have to say Datsyuk's pass to Bertuzzi on the breakaway goal was impressive.

I would hate a series against Detroit, so much. If you guys can stay healthy and energized, which is really the only question, it would be a hell of a series.

Ooh Leafs. Win 5 lose 2. You can do it!

Also, Twitter is supposedly running rampant with rumours about a trade between Anaheim and Toronto. I doubt it at this point as twitter is such bullshit and no major sources have come out and suggested it other than some producer dude from The Score, but just to entertain the thought, what would the deal looks like?

I assume if they were to trade one of the big three in Anaheim it would be Getzlaf or Ryan, from a Leafs perspective. Getzlaf makes the most sense. I think Anaheim is less likely to part with him.

What do you kind and educated hockey fans think? If it's One of the two what does a deal look like?

(Again, I feel it important to note that I don't believe this trade is imminent or it will even go down for that matter but I think it's fun to talk about.

I don't think the leafs have the young talent to get either. But is guess for either it'd have to be a package like Grabovski, Schenn, Kadri, and a first rounder. And even then I don't think its enough.

It makes sense that it would be getzlaf going.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

The Hawks aren't really a legit Stanley Cup contender right at this moment because their PK and PP are way too mediocre. One of those has to seriously improve for them to have a chance. Van is soft mentally, but they were 1 game away from a Cup last year, and they are the better team right now I think.

1st-unit PP really needs to get it together for the Hawks to excel.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

The Ducks desperately need secondary scoring. If a trade were to happen, say for Getzlaf, it would probably include Grabovski to take the center spot on the top line, and then a secondary scoring threat like MacArthur, who's quietly having a good year. Throw in a high draft pick, and I could see it happening.

I think Burke would be loathe to part with a guy like Schenn. He's rounding out into a cornerstone player for this team.

If Detroit or Chicago were in Vancouver's place in that division, they would be damn near undefeated.

Unfortunately this is far from the truth. We've lost twice to the Oilers, once to the Flames, and the Avs always seem to give us problems. The Hawks have had a pretty easy schedule so far.

Great first period. Could have easily put up 5+ but 2 is good for now. No shell please.
