Really surprised the Raggies came to play unless it was the wings who didn't though they got a lot of shots.

Wings didn't show up in the first but played well in the last two. Rangers seemed flat in the second and most of the third. The last 5-10 NYR seemed to bring it.

So it's done. I can't fault him, other than the cap hit. I hope they can trade it to a team that needs to hit the cap floor.

Impressive article. I wasn't aware just how bad Pavel's ankles were. I imagine it's hard to be upset with him as a Red Wings fan. Yeah the cap hit sucks, a lot actually, but it's hard to feel anything other than respect for Pavel Datsyuk.

Yeah I knew he was in pain but not all of that. The cap hit sucks but maybe someone will take it. He only gets paid 5.5 mil so maybe if they eat some of it they can make it work. Two Cups, three finals and four conference finals along with probably some of the best goals ever, it was fun. Get some cap relief and sign Stammer and we're fine. ;-) Well and help out that D...eeesshh.

Good story. Pavel has always been fun to watch. I wish him the best.

Islanders in desperate need of a loss tonight. Kind of interested in how they approach it

This game could be a 0-0 tie with the longest shootout ever. :lol

a loss in regulation...

Re: The NHL Thread

actually my mistake, any loss for Isles keeps them behind the Rangers. Wins before head to head. Rangers would be +1

He is a tough guy to hate, sure you can disagree and go back and fourth but it is a tight nit group in here and I doubt anyone could truly hate anyone else.

Right up until they announce the awards! You have to admit it is pretty cool that he is likely going to be the first American born player to win either award. The Calder should be a slightly tighter race but it is not often a rookie puts up 30 goals and 47 assists for a total of 77 points - that is a rock solid season for a vet, let alone a first year guy.

Lastly, was also nice to see that all the playoff teams earned their spot, no backing in because someone else lost X in a row, no tie breakers, etc, etc. Should be a great playoffs!

Honestly, I think the Flyers match up better against Florida than Pittsburgh so taking a loss today would not be a bad thing today IMO.

Shame Datsyuk is in a position to harm the Wings financially if he leaves the league and returns to Russia, would be quite a cap hit for them - to the tune of 7.5 million bucks.

Amazing that the Ducks are in a position to win the Pacific if they beat the Islanders today.

#Caps Ovechkin is the first player in NHL history to score 50 goals in three consecutive seasons twice (2007-10, 2013-16)

Love him or hate him, gotta respect Ovechkin's hustle

Except that's exactly how the Red Wings got in, via a Bruins loss

Well yeah, obviously, but you can't just guarantee a loss for yourself. Obviously they'll attempt to influence the outcome, just gonna be interesting to see how much because they really do not want to win this game. It's rare a team is in a position where an extra loss would significantly help them

Agreed, he is a great player. I love watching him get into position, find some open ice and tee up a one timer to burn the goalie.

You are correct but that three game stretch where they beat Minnesota, Toronto and Phillie pretty much sealed it up for them IMO.

Except it didn't seal it. They lost to the Bruins and then lost to a Rangers team with 4 regulars out. If Bruins don't lay the biggest egg ever, he'll all they would end up needing was an OT loss and they'd be in.

I'm shocked at how large the egg was the Bruins laid yesterday. 6-1 annihilation on home ice with playoffs literally on the line. Yikes.

edit: to a team below them at that

You are shocked they got smoked playing a goalie that hasn't played in weeks?

Anyone that's followed the Bruins the last two years shouldn't be shocked at that game at all.

Couldn't care less who was in net. The fact they had a playoff berth on the line and got beat 6-1 is shocking, yes

Its not shocking at all. This Bruins team constantly folds, they have no defense. Then when you factor in the goalie situation. Yeah....pretty much what was expected to happen.

They lost the same way this season that they did last season. The only thing I'm shocked about is Tuukka not playing.

Monster wasn't the problem. If anything he kept it 1-0 after one. It could have been much much worse which is saying something.

Flyers are going to get smoked. Better them than the Bruins. Congrats to the city of philly on a successful season though.

Bruins fans are fantastic. Also love how people aren't shocked when you lose 6-1. No one should expect a 6-1 loss with the playoffs on the line. If I were a Bruin fan I would want Julien gone
