Watchtower works well anywhere. I think it's just beaten to death in that E2 spot.

Would be super fun to have Stefan open a show with his usual bass solo and then the band slowly gets into place while he's soloing to open the show with it.

I find AATW just as amazing as when I heard it for the first time on LS.

Oh, and page 500, Warehouse announcement announcing this album is imminent!

Did lillywhite get a shot at shotgun, Idea of you and 04s for AFTW? I’d love to hear those too.

The fact that it was a late scratch for the bonus cd for -- i believe #27 -- is really, really heart breaking

People are coming out they hated every Shotgun after its first appearance, they'd hate what was laid down now.

No one has said they hated every Shotgun after the debut.

That doesn’t remotely say “I hate every Shotgun after it’s debut”. Man the C is a mess these days.

If the only one that makes sense to him is the debut, it stands to reason that he's not particularly fond of anything afterward.

Absolutely agree, not even close, I do have a strong connection to SB for personal reasons but a couple years ago before that was the case I'd still take SB over Shotgun.

Re: New Album Coming Soon?

Wait... why is Shotgun being compared to Space Between? That seems like an incredibly random comp.

I'd argue that Shotgun's comp is closer to American Baby Intro with the wailing and the heavy emotional aspect. Space Between has become a sweet tiny little song and would gladly take it at any show. Even better as an E1 solo song.

Because Dave replaced Shotgun (written in the setlist) with Space Between at the show on Saturday...

Ahhhhh.

I'd be OK either way as both are +1 for me. I've seen Space Between twice and Shotgun once. Gun held to my head, I'd probably go Space Between as it is complete. If Shotgun were to ever get finished and have some lyrics dialed in, it might be a different discussion. Space Between has a real argument for a top 30 DMB tune for me.

I’m not particularly fond of sirloin steak, there are much better steaks out there…doesn’t mean I hate it. Hate is a pretty strong word to imply.

Re: New Album Coming Soon?

Space between is fantastic, I think it is the perfect E1 but like it anywhere. Shotgun is also great and would love to catch it if it pops up again this tour. I don't think its totally worthwhile to compare just because of this substitution. They opted out of shotgun and chose to play space between. Its not like Dave is going to be writing the next setlist and be like "oh here is that Space Between/Shotgun flex spot I've been putting in sets, better just stick with Space Between cause I did that last time"

Why is this thread still open?

While we're on the topic, here are some cool / unique setlist scans & statistics from the almanac. I enjoy looking at the printed sets.

https://dmbalmanac.com/TourSetScan.a...3055255&tid=38 The first known printed set.
https://dmbalmanac.com/TourSetScan.a...3055010&tid=31 The second known printed set.
https://dmbalmanac.com/TourSetScan.a...3054772&tid=22 The first known printed set in the format as we know it. Note the misspelled Rapunzel and "IBYU"

https://dmbalmanac.com/TourSetScan.aspx?sid=18&tid=2 The Space Between goes from being listed as "Space Between" to just "Space" for the first time. They would later list it as "Space Between" again during the tour and would alternate between the two. It eventually permanently became "Space Between", likely due to Spaceman existing.
https://dmbalmanac.com/TourSetScan.aspx?sid=31&tid=2 Sleep to Dream Her is not listed in all caps for reasons unknown. Note the lack of an encore indicator
https://dmbalmanac.com/TourSetScan.aspx?sid=33&tid=2 If I Had It All is listed as "If I Had". It was originally listed with the full title and would later settle on "If I Had It".

https://dmbalmanac.com/TourSetScan.a...3056214&tid=83 The very first printed #34, since they did not have this system the last time it was played.

Re: New Album Coming Soon?

I think the band could look to what they did with Time Bomb for Shotgun. The end of Time Bomb Dave kept the screaming "Baby when I get home..." section in a lower register and I think it still did the song justice but clearly easier on his voice and less screaming. Shotgun has a similar issue. In the Austin Shotgun (video below) skip to 2:30 and that is clearly where Dave doesn't know what to do to fill the vocals but scream. He just needs to write some lyrics... think I've heard some versions where he just repeats "talk to me, talk to me girl girl girl" or "run away from here, you and me my dear" whatever just repeat some lyrics in a lower register build towards maybe one big scream of the "YEAH YEAH YEAH" before the "What has become of us?" section which always sounds tight. You can tell its that chunk of the song Dave is uncomfortable with. Just write some lyrics, keep it lower register, and don't fill it with mindless screaming and the song is tight.
