I guess I should have figured my "I want to hear I Did It this summer" post would get a few snickers, so let me explain . . .

First of all - the Ladies will likely be around. I'm seeing 6 shows (DC, Alpine, and WPB), and most likely I'll see any combination of You and Me, Can't Stop, Stay (fun), Everyday (solid), and maybe that pointless outro to Drunken Soldier where they do the Pink Floyd "Great Gig in the Sky" thing. Fortunately, this means Sledgehammer and Burning Down the House, my two favorite DMB covers.

Given that there's going to be no shortage of repeats in that portion of the set, why not a random "I Did It"? If this were 2004, I'd never post something like this. But in 2014, we know most (if not all) sets will have a few turds. I'd just prefer it to be a never-before-heard-by-me turd.

And that repeat-factor could go for anywhere in the set. Seven? Shake Me? Seen 'em. A bunch. Give me "I Did It".

Same here. :BANG I can't think of a song that has been played as a closer that sucks more to hear in that spot.

Why will the ladies "likely" be around?

I Did It sucks. Don't need even more crap in setlists next summer.

That's the word around the campfire. Hey, if they aren't, I'm as happy as anybody.

Like I said, this makes no sense. I don't want to hear turds at shows I go to, but then again I haven't seen the band since '09. I want the band to play their best songs at every show.

Of course it's people who started seeing shows post 2005. No one should want to see that song, it's awful.

I got to see it's liberation 2010 at the Gorge. First two songs of the show was Minarets and Bartender so I was feeling really good then they dropped that turd :lol

Except I started seeing shows in 2002 . . .

I posted in a thread titled "Random DMB thoughts that don't need its own thread". I said I'd like to hear I Did It, then explained how it taking the place of other turds would be welcome in my mind. 50 shows in, and I'm up for a little variety.

I want a set with LIOG, Pig, Nancies-->Warehouse, Seek Up, Recently, etc. as much as the next guy. But in this reality - DMB in 2015 - you're going to get turds in most every setlist. With that as a given, I just think it'd be a fun break from the You & Me's, Shake Me's, Seven's and Can't Stops of the world.

Many people hate I Did It. I don't. Do I love it? Nah. Would I enjoy hearing it once? Yep.

Not at all. I didn't think "I Did It" would elicit unanimous praise from a DMB message board. My earliest memories on this board include the Penn State 2002 "Worst Encore Ever" - Space Between and I Did It.

Great, but you missed it in 2002. I saw it in 01, 02 and 03. It's a terrible song. I just hate the mindset of seeing a shitty song just because of variety.

they're going to play shitty songs anyway. its not like the band would play a set like from 1997 if it wasn't for people wanting I Did It. they're still going to play spacebread, seven, cant stop, dreamgirl, etc. so if i go to 6 shows this summer (all 2 night stands) and hear 3 shake me's and 3 cant stops, im going to be pretty tired of both of them, especially considering how much i've already seen them. i would much rather have 1 shake me, 1 cant stop, 1 dreamgirl, 1 i did it, 1 seven, and 1 spaceman.

and variety works for good songs too. instead of getting 3 Drive In Drive Outs, i would much rather 1 DIDO, 1 Raven, and 1 BOWA

but moving on....

why are there no horns in Granny? i understand thats how they wrote the song and thats why they are not in it, but why didn't they write any horn lines for Granny?

Re: Random dmb thoughts that don't need its own thread

No desire to see friggen I did it saw enough of that song in 2004. No need to ever ever see that song again.

Re: Random dmb thoughts that don't need its own thread

Again, I don't see the band anymore so this isn't a problem for me. I'd love to see them turn it around, but it's not looking that way. I still stand by my statement of wanting shitty songs for variety is a terrible mindset to have. Carry on.

I don't disagree that it's setting the bar lower than it should be. That's why early summer 2013 was so encouraging, because the sets were by-and-large really good, took some chances, and avoided repeating the bad songs we've grown tired of from 2009 until now.

The great concert moments are more fleeting, for sure. For me, it's a mix of nostalgia, friends, family (my dad still goes to our Deer Creek weekends), and what is still a top-notch concert experience.

Last summer, I saw four pretty good shows. It was the first year since 2009-2010 that I hadn't seen what I considered to be a GREAT show (Chicago Caravan N3 in 2011; Alpine 2012; Deer Creek N1 2013).

I've fallen into a groove of just enjoying the overall experience, savoring singular moments (like Minarets opening Chicago N2 last year) and keeping my fingers crossed for a top-to-bottom awesome set.
