:lol :lol

That's a great tweet. Whatever. These deals are always just laughable now. As with many of these deals, they'll probably work out really well for the first half of the term. We're in a horrible contractual cycle right now. Ugh.

The business end of it aside, I'm pumped that it's training camp week! I <3 hockey. And the Flyers have the potential to get back to the playoffs and that's all I'm asking for for this upcoming season.

I guess this mean Alfie can wear #11 now for the Wings.

Just get me Oct. 2nd. I'm ready for some real hockey.

Apparently Tim Thomas is near a decision.

It would be the funniest thing ever if it somehow ended up being with the Flyers.

4 year deal. I'm calling it.

What do you all think was the worst contract given of the summer?

My Vote (not because I'm a Leaf fan) goes to Clarkson's 5.25 for 7 years. That shit be cray cray.

Clarkson's is pretty bad IMO. Mark Streit's is up there (money is fine, don't like 4 years)

Yeah that one is bad. Same for Vinny. The years are a lot for a guy on the decline.

Clarkson's is over priced. A nice player that anyone would like to have but over $5mil per? It's tough for me to really look at the cap hits anymore because when the cap goes up the max deals can go up. so if you sign a deal in 2008 7mil was top of the line player, still should be imo but ya know what I mean. Now the top players can get 12mil really. I guess if other teams are willing to pay it, it technically does make it market value.

Read the 3 on 3 after the 4 on 4 was getting more support. Obviously not for this year but wonder if they'll look at it again during the year. We've talked about it 100 times now probably but still would like to try and eliminate the number of shootouts.

Yeah, Edmonton is done rebuilding. It's time for the kids to step up and show what they're made of right now.

That would be a massive disappointment at this point.

Also...

‏@FriedgeHNIC Not exactly sure why, but it appears as if there is some complication between Daniel Cleary and PHI. Told he will not be joining Flyers.

i just have a hard time putting them in the playoffs over LA, Anaheim, SJ, Vancouver, and even Phoenix.

and then if they get 4th, that means they are fighting for the wild card with whoever is in 4th in the Central (i think that's what it's called)

Oh, and I don't think there are any 'canes fans here but Pitkanen is out for the season. Still can't put any weight on his busted-up heel. Time for no-touch icing folks.

I LOVE Eakins I was pretty disappointed when they didn't give him the head coaching job over Carlyle. I like Carlyle, but Eakins just oozes excellence.

Kadri signs for 2 years at just under 3 a year.

Disagree. Hybrid icing is the best compromise.

Injuries HAPPEN. It's hockey. Can't change every rule just to try and avoid injuries, or else we'll be playing Sarcastaball.

Apparently Cleary will somehow sign with the Wings now. Not sure how they'll make that happen. A very weird turn of events with all of that.

^ Yes. And that's good news for the Flyers. My first preference is to try out another youngin' in that spot. Second would be to sign Gagne for cheap. He'd probably take 1-2 year deal at small money if he doesn't get bites elsewhere.

Pens had their first scrimmage today. Fleury already in post season form, allowed 5 goals (one was even an own goal). Vokoun allowed 0.

Had to be salary cap related. I would assume.

I think three teams from the Central make it. No more. Chicago, St. Louis, and Minnesota? Winnipeg? Dallas? Colorado? I don't know, but I don't see it being more than 3.

Which means 5 make it from the Pacific. LA, SJ, and Vancouver...let's call those the locks of that group. I think Anaheim slides back to reality a little bit with the 82 game season. I could certainly see Edmonton making a run at it. Phoenix doesn't have much going for them, and obviously Calgary doesn't either. I bet Edmonton makes it.
