4-5 times a week. Many nights I put on a record while I cook dinner. And every couple of weekends I block out a few hours to just sit and listen.

A particular release? I have albums I've purchased in the last 2 years that I opened and cleaned and haven't listened to yet, I have records I bought 20+ years ago that have been played over a hundred times. I dont usually buy things I don't intend to listen to, so just about everything I have has been listened to multiple times. I have a handful of things that I listened to once or twice and didn't care for, and if someone sees it and says "oh hey I love that but don have a copy" they just got a door prize.

I definitely don't listen on vinyl as often as other formats, but when I do I treat it similar to watching a movie. I sit in front of the speakers and just listen all the way through with my eyes closed (no, I don't watch movies with my eyes closed:p), and no other distractions.

I couldn't believe how good it sounded the first time I dropped the needle. Almost like hearing those songs for the first time again.

I'll usually play at least 1 full album and at minimum 1 side or 1 disc of another per day. On weekends my wife and I will have a drink or two and listen to a handful of records. We always start with Van Morrison's Moondance (the all analog Steve Hoffman cut) and move from there.

My most played are Moondance, Crash, LT 3, Phish's Rift, RHCP's Bloo Sugar Sex Magik/Stadium Arcadium, and a few Neil Young albums

Totally agree! And then when #41 started I was blown away by the crispness of Carter's high hat. DIDO was another highlight for me on that pressing as well.

:thumbsup:thumbsup

That Crash reissue played on decent equipment is just ridiculous. Carter sounds like he's actually inside your speakers. You can hear every little thwack of Dave's guitar pick against the strings and the squeak of his fingers moving up and down the neck. Tim's accents throughout the album come to life like I had never heard them before.

My favorite is hearing Carter yell "That....is bad as shit!!" at the end of DIDO. :lol

All of this. The music just comes alive. Words really don't do that album justice.

I think I just figured out my plans for the night :lol

Pretty much every day I listen to vinyl. My turntable is set up in my bedroom, so usually when I'm back there doing laundry, or before bed, or if I'm doing any work on my computer back there I'll be spinning a record.

And it depends on the release. I've listened to every record I own. Some more than once (the LT vinyl, some Talking Heads records, etc).

On the topic of that Crash vinyl I like how you can hear Dave saying , way in the background, something about "Carter's gonna smoke now" during that one section in DIDO

Just bought a record player in the last month and we've started a decent collection of records to go along with a bunch my in laws gave us. Once we get more, we'll listen more often, but we probably turn it on 3-4 times a week.

Re: DMB Live 25 - 5LP Vinyl (180g)

Crash is probably one of the best sounding records in my collection. As Alex mentioned, you can almost "feel" Carter in your room with a good system. I'd also note that Tim's fills in Lie in Our Grave and Proudest Monkey are much more present, and the horns in Too Much and Two Step are way more powerful than on the CD.

And while there was a ton of criticism of the Amazon exclusive splatter edition, I got lucky and got a beautiful looking copy. Perfect release all around, Chris Bellman did a fantastic job and I can't wait to see what they can do for BTCS and beyond as far as studio work goes (I'd love to hear a properly mastered Stand Up despite the songs being mostly shit)

Hoping Bellman also did DMB Live 25

Yep agreed. Crash is easily in the top 10 in my collection. I also bought the Amazon pressing. Mine looks great and sounds amazing as well. No complaints on my end.

I don't think the existence of a digital option, or not, will have any affect on the secondary market cost.
The people who want the vinyl and/or the whole package will buy it now at retail.
The people who just want the music will steal it. They're not going to pay flipper prices on eBay just to get it.

Don't get me wrong, there will be a secondary market for this, but it won't be outrageous and I think anyone buying up multiples to flip is going to be disappointed in their returns.

Have you ever listened to any well mastered album on any format (CD, SACD, Blu-ray Audio) on a good system?

If you've ever heard a highly dynamic - cranked up to 11 - with crystal clear sound, full rounded bass, and crisp high ends; you might understand how addictive it can be.

Vinyl can definitely be a hassle, but it often can be the best sounding copy of a given album, making the effort well worth it. All things held equal, digital has higher potential to actually produce better sound than vinyl. But, unfortunately, all things are not equal and many times the vinyl release has a far superior master. I'm what some call "format agnostic" and will go for the best sounding format of a given album if available; that just happens to be vinyl in a lot of cases today

To each their own, I hear you that it looked nothing like the photo's Amazon used to market it and it should have been on translucent red and clear vinyl to properly get the colors to show through. But it isn't the ugliest splatter I've seen by any stretch.

This Trey Anastasio album looks exactly like it was marketed, and I think it's hideous (sounds great though at 45rpm, and at the end of the day that's what's supposed to matter with vinyl)

I like that. I'm the same way.

That being said... and I'm sorry if I missed this in this mess of a thread somewhere... but has anything been mentioned about how this vinyl was pressed? Is it remastered and pressed directly from DAT and analogue tapes? Or is it all a digital remaster?

I'd assume it was cut from hi-res digital files, as was Red Rocks. As far as the mixing/mastering I do not know as of yet. Not even sure who the mastering engineer was

I'm going to have to say no on that one. I've never owned or had access to a high quality system. I do most of my listening in the car. It's either there or through a Bluetooth speaker stand I got as a Christmas gift, when I'm doing house work or playing with my kids.

If love to listen on a high quality system, but that's very low on the priority list in my life right now. I'm sure a properly mastered vinyl through a great system is worth it, but it's not feasible right now. I have a few DMB vinyl but that's just because I like how they look for decorative purposes

If you're ever in Atlanta head to the Best Buy Magnolia Design Center and have them Demo some of their gear for you; you can even bring a favorite album on CD along too - even BTCS would be a good enough option. All at no cost to you other than some of your time

It'll give you a nice peak into the world of audiophiles! :)

Did anyone really expect it to? I would have been shocked if it did sell out! It's a niche format being marketed to a niche fan base. And it's expensive. I don't know why everyone thought this was going to sell out before it even got past the Warehouse period.

I'll be honest... I love vinyl. But I would be ok with a CD edition of this. If I drop $175.00 on the vinyl and next month they're offering the CD's (or lossless digital downloads) for $60.00, I'm going to be more than a little annoyed.

It will sell out, whether that's this weekend or by the end of next week. 2,500 was a good amount. It's not that many, but at this price point it ensures every has a shot to get it at face value if they want

What's with management or whoever still referring to pig as don't burn the pig? Like how many times can they make that mistake? I also hate when it's on official media or like tracklists on a cd/DVD (weekend on the rocks). That being said I think, despite the pages and pages of nevativity, I'm excited for this release more than anything they've put out in a long time. Sucks that it's only vinyl but this gives me an excuse to finally start putting together a dope setup. I've been asking for Break For It literally every year since 2010 to be put on a warehouse disc lol. But aside from that, almost every selection is just fucking great. This bartender is stupid good and I personally love this What You are. Honestly from start to finish this thing just looks beautiful. I'm beyond excited to listen to it.

Really into anything (both beer and tunes). Big on IPAs and stouts and anything in between

If you're on Reddit, I've been doing a "Sippin' & Spinnin'" thread each weekend the past few months. It's more active some weeks more than others, and the mods will generally sticky it when there's an open sticky spot

This bartender is stupid good and I personally love this What You are. Honestly from start to finish this thing just looks beautiful. I'm beyond excited to listen to it.

Itís not a mistake. Thereís a very valid reason.

I've never seen a lazier group of fans before. It's called buy the freakin' vinyl and rip it into FLAC after you buy it and then you have something for your selfie stick and something for your home when people come over.

This won't be coming out on CD format. CDs...:lol

I bought a 5 dollar adaptor and a 4 dollar RCA>3.5mm cord. Audacity is free. As long as you have a good computer and a good sound card you're good to go.

My favorite thing to do during baseball season is throw the Cubs game on my big screen with the sound off and spin records.

Not 100% what you mean by your second question?? As far as DMB goes, the 5 Live Trax sets, Red Rocks, and the Crash reissue are some of the most frequently spun albums in my collection for sure.

I think they had a good idea with the poster but it was just not executed well. All Methane clips and from what I can tell every clip or almost every clip is from a poster in the last 4 years or so?

ExistenceNow 07-15-2017 01:31 PM

Re: DMB Live 25 - 5LP Vinyl (180g)

Nah it goes back further than that. I see the Ace in there, and that's from 2010. Vegas D&T Skull was '10 or '11.

But yea, as far as I can tell it's all Methane. It sums up their clip art copy pasta mentality lately pretty nicely... 25 years of DMB, not so much.

Also, philosophy of the poster aside, it's just hideous. It's not enjoyable to look at.

Flower series is in there; which was either '08 or '09.

Fenway is in there in the bottom, below the beer can one.

The one right below the Ace is Piedmont Park, from '07.

I just realized that there are no '04 songs on this release. Crazy Easy, Hello Again, Sugar Will, Good Good Time and Joyride were all excluded. I'm not complaining. But I am curious why those would get looked over in favor of Falling Off The Roof (or even Break For It).

A Dream So Real should have been cut for a Crazy Easy, IMO. ADSR is on LT 42 so it's a bit redundant.

Right. I'm not complaining at all about the tracks. ADSR just stuck out to me as a possibility for replacement because of LT 42.

True. But in all fairness, every song on this box set has many, many releases. I would just think that something like Falling Off The Roof would be more suited on, say, a Warehouse release than a retrospect of their 25 years of touring.

Again... not a complaint. I bought the damn thing and I'm very excited about it. This is just something I noticed.

My guess on the bold is because those were all on LT 2 which is on vinyl already. Perhaps they wanted more songs that weren't already on vinyl? Though many of the 25 are on vinyl. Seek Up is on like half of them :lol

Maybe that they're already on vinyl, combined with those songs being pretty much the same night after night in '04.

The point of this release, at least as far as I can tell from Jake's post, was to put out distinct/special/highly desired versions of songs, and with the '04 songs, one's as good as another, more or less. I don't know that I've noticed much clamoring for any one version of Crazy Easy, ya know?

Just my $.02.

Crazy Easy had evolving lyrics through out the tour. I'd love a sound board of another Crazy Easy

I was really on the fence about it because of the price but now that I've ordered it and had a few days to think about it I'm really excited to finally spin it. I've been wanting a compilation vinyl release from the band and the track listing on this incredible. I'm so glad they didn't load it up with the greatest hits.

Sorry I couldn't find a proper thread to ask this question (haven't posted in a very very long time)... I can't really afford this Live 25 but was wondering since my interest in DMB has been peaked again, and I do collect vinyl, which site is the cheapest for Red Rocks on vinyl? So far the cheapest I've found is online Wal-Mart for $67. Is this legit? Are there any better options? Sorry just consider that their best live album and the last thing I have from this band on vinyl is 'Crash'. Thanks for the help!

Never ordered vinyl from Walmart before but I know people that have. I don't think they have had any problems. Seems like you can get one on black vinyl for less than $80 on most websites. Last I checked the DMB store had them on black vinyl too.

ImportCDs has it for under $66 (plus $4 shipping) thru Amazon

Thank you both awesome... still would be cheaper w/ Wal Mart with no tax or shipping costs @ $67.79..missed that ImportCds option though as I usually get vinyl through Amazon if not local shops.
