Re: The NHL Thread
Waiting on Barbs reaction. Caps trying to go all in it seems. Doesn't seem like a steep price at all. Don't know much about the goalie though but a 3rd and Brouwer isn't much.
Edit: and there he is. |
Re: The NHL Thread
Why is no one taking Bickell?

Re: The NHL Thread
Well, it only took a couple days to address the winger issue.

Re: The NHL Thread
So, now that I have a minute to actually look at the trade, another good move from BMac in my opinion. Oshie is an upgrade from Brouwer, and the goalie is a decent kid but he's nothing special, plus we really don't need another goalie prospect. Throwing in a third is fine. This is a great move for several reasons. I'll expand my thoughts later when I have more time, but this a great move.
|
Re: The NHL Thread
I like the move as well. It's simple: The Caps had a need, and they addressed it. Without mortgaging the farm, we should add. That is the essence of what trades in sports are for. Washington achieved that here. Good move.

Re: The NHL Thread
Good article on how the Kings are probably full of shit and not going to get away with blatant cap circumvention.

Re: The NHL Thread
MacLellan bringing the heat.
I'm very happy about both acquisitions. This gives the Caps real options at forward, not just band aids and hopes. The top 6 could look like this: Ovie - Nick - Oshie Johansson - Kuznetsov - Williams Or this: Ovie - Nick - Burakovsky Johansson - Kuznetsov - Oshie Or this: Ovie - Nick - Oshie Burakovsky - Kuznetsov - Williams Or several other combinations. You get my point. Adding two viable options at RW in the top 6 is massive. No matter what they do, Williams/Oshie/Burakovsky is better than Ward/Brouwer/Fehr. They can choose not to rush Andre into a top 6 role right away this season because now they've got options. They can use a player like Justin Williams in the bottom 6 if they so choose because they've got options. If Johansson gets cold they can comfortably slide him down a line because they've got (you guessed it) options. Options foster competition, competition fosters better hockey. These are two really impressive moves and provided real answers to an issue that was apparent all season last year. Nice job, BMac. Looks like the Caps are definitely out on Patrick Sharp now. |
Re: The NHL Thread
man, caps are legit.
about time they, you know, got some north american players on their team who actually won something. |

Kev, bud. Since we didn't do Camden this year we have to get together. Let me know. JRS, you're invited too. We can make fun of Becca, who actually thinks he has a shot at the playoffs this year. :lol |

a much better video, which I cannot find, is the "I'm not bud, I'm Voracek." It's like a five year old in a living room with a hockey stick and a net, and the dad goes "hey bud...", and the kid goes, "I'm not bud, I'm Voracek." |

Oshie also has a pretty good reputation for having a lot of untapped potential, and a very high ceiling. His talent was enough to get him on Team USA last Olympics. Bickell is just a fat man that happened to be in the right place at the right time during one playoff run. Bickell will get traded, it's just going to be Bowman waiting it out until he feels he has his best return. Let the free agent market dry up, there will be someone around feeling left out. I just want someone to do it to get it over with, but understand it's potentially going to be quite the waiting period. |
Re: The NHL Thread
Speaking of free agent market. Still nothing on Ward, Franson or Oduya?

MDZ is looking good. I was talking with Carchidi about that Wednesday night at an all star football game. Also thinks B Schenn has the best shot at being traded and that it doesn't look like Lecavalier will be.

Brouwer was good in his time at Washington, but he was very streaky as well. His playoff play wasn't very good and he was supposed to be a leader come May. Never fully showed.
As for Ward he's def gone as Cap. He's not signed yet bc he wants 4 years when really teams only want to do 3 tops Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Sounds about right for Saad. That's way too rich for Chicago. Feel a lot better about the trade now, in hindsight.

Ward off to Sharks for 3 years. San Jose is just weird right now. I don't see them as a contender even with the Pacific being wide open after the Ducks.

MDZ heading to arbitration
|
Re: The NHL Thread
ROR contract is a bit of a joke. JT gonna get 10 million at this point and deserve every penny.
What are the Sharks doing. Are they striving for mediocrity? |

Sharks have been done for a while....makes me sad :(

Re: The NHL Thread
Not that Martin and Ward are bad signings (Martin might be a little high but not terrible)but just seems like lack of direction. I don't see them winning so you might as well try and get younger.

Leafs sign Rich Clune. This is a great article. Read.

Re: The NHL Thread
Wings Nyquist files for arbitration so at least that guarantees no offer sheet and that he'll be signed in time for the season. Most of the time Wings don't even get to the meeting and sign them beforehand so either way it's good news. Ferraro also signed so that leaves Jurco (should be pretty cheap) and Pulkinnen. He'll get a decent amount probably based off his AHL season but still shouldn't be too bad.

thought the saad deal was a pretty good one for the jackets. thought he'd get 6.5

|
Re: The NHL Thread
My understanding only if revenue goes up big in 2 years. It's all based on revenue and if the Canadian Dollar continues to fall that won't help. And expansion (again from my understanding) only will help if those teams make money out of the gate cause the expansion fees are not hockey related revenue.

@DallasStars: ICYMI on Periscope: #Stars acquire Patrick Sharp and Steven Johns from @NHLBlackhawks in exchange for Ryan Garbutt and Trevor Daley
|
Re: The NHL Thread
And the Hawks still have work to do to get cap compliant.
|
Re: The NHL Thread
Lol. What in the dear fuck. Patrick Sharp had 78 pts 2 yrs ago. You trade him AND your best defensive prospect for a pile of hot garbage.
|
Re: The NHL Thread
The Daley acquisition puzzles me as there's rumblings that the Hawks are working with Oduya to get him signed. Does that mean they've given up on Oduya? Or maybe they plan to flip Daley in another move? If they keep him, Daley's not terrible.
I imagine Garbutt will slide into the vacancy left by the eventual trading of Bickell and/or Versteeg. But yeah, that also hurts to give up Johns. |
Re: The NHL Thread
Johns is probably already better than Daley, lol.
Don't know why we didn't just hold on to Sharp until later in the summer. This is an absolute steal for Dallas. Sharp is still a very good player, the reason his numbers were down because he was hurt and then dumped to the third line. Stan have ya lost your damn mind? |

http://www.am980.ca/2015/07/13/buffa...?sc_ref=direct Classic Sabres. Just when they're appearing to be good, they're in shit again. |
Re: The NHL Thread
Oduya will not be back with the Hawks for sure now. Sounds like Stars or Sabres are the leading teams.
|
Re: The NHL Thread

Basically nothing Dale Tallon did is left, besides actually draft Toews, Kane, Seabrook, and Keith, etc. None of his contractual footprint is on this team anymore, so I'm not sure what he has to do with the conversation at this point. Kruger will be back. We'll unload some more cap to make room for him. He doesn't really have many options at this point, being a RFA. |
Re: The NHL Thread
I wish the Isles were in Oduya but we aren't. I am a little disappointed in our lack of impact moves this summer. Of course, Garth did damage late summer year with the trades for Leddy and Boychuk but I can't assume we will net something similar this year. I wish they weren't so reliant on assuming the youth will get better. I would have liked to see an impact veteran added this summer.

I remember when he un-retired and was a player-owner in 2000 (BTW Jagr was still the captain but the NHL should have let Mario wear an "O"). He either didn't take a salary or took the league minimum. Some teams complained saying it was unfair that the pens got a player of that caliber on the cheap and his salary should have been competitive. I even remember one rumor had Mario getting traded to NYR because of that. :lol |
