Anyone see that Malkin dive at towards the end of the third period? Granted, he did get hit in the face with the stick, but he went down like a ton of bricks. God, the Russians are awful.

Yeah, I think a week until their first game so that's good. Hope he didn't hurt anything worse by playing. If he did, it didn't show.

I said Sweden for gold too.

I don't remember who I said silver.

I said Canada would be in the bronze medal game.

I honestly don't remember my USA prediction. Maybe they were silver?

Thanks for the Canada updates, for real. No way am I even thinking about watching that game right now. :thumbsup

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Backes/Brown/Callahan line. Can score, grind, match up against guys like Jagr, whatever. They're like the perfect combo of a 3rd and 1st (ok, maybe 2nd) line.

Obviously I agree.

I love those guys. Backes is the prototypical "hate him unless he plays for your team" guy. I'd LOOOOOOOOOOOVE for him to be the 2C in Chicago behind Toews. Guy is a freaking horse. Brown and Callahan are doing a good job shutting up everyone who said they don't belong there. That line is fantastic.

I'm fully expecting Parise/Kesler/Kane to explode at some point here.

that's the scary thing about this tournament - almost any team can win one game on one day if the stars align. breaking this tie before the end of the 2nd would be nice

Yup, we're just one bad bounce away from being fucked right now. That being said Latvia is starting to wear down. They had a huge game yesterday and it's starting to show late in the second.

Because they need to spell out everything in the rule book. The Kings/Wings goal off the net is the perfect example. Not the first time it's happened, hell 2nd time at JLA and they didn't fix it the first time. Because do you review every time it might go out of the play. do you stop every time to check? I agree with you, but that's the reason for at least some of it.

So make every goal reviewable, and then give coaches 1 "challenge flag" per game they can use to challenge non-scoring plays.

Problem solved.

Regardless of what you think about hockey, it's not a sport you just pick up and play. Can't just put on skates and play.

Problem solved.

A lot of these guys have law degrees and can never make it that simple. Well, that's not true. They made a rule simple once, the crease rule. If your foot was in the crease before the puck, it was no goal. Didn't matter if you were nowhere near the goalie, had any involvement in the play or if there was even a goalie in the net. Maybe that's what made them this way. How royally they fucked that rule up.

Not to US (if Canada wins) don't let their defense score, and you'll have a good chance.

Exactly. Hockey is not a simple sport to excel at and just because you can dominate another sport does not mean you can dominate some other sport. Hockey is probably the toughest IMO - you need to learn how to skate extremely well to even make a team, you need to get that hand eye coordination down using a stick and tiny puck, you have to find that center of gravity to stay on your feet, you need to have situational awareness and the knowledge of what your team mates will do at any given time, you need to know the rules (more complex than the NBA IMO) to the letter, etc, etc. Point being, while he might know how to skate (doubtful IMO) I highly doubt he would make a high school hockey team, let alone dominate the NHL.

Latvia's keeper should be given a medal. What an effort.

Win, lose or draw he's #1 star without a doubt. Price would be #2.
