Love the Bourque one but being the fan I am, the Stevie Y one still brings me chills. Usually this time of year I watch that goal a lot. All 3 versions on youtube. The CBC call, the ESPN call and the UPN-50 Detroit call. lol

I was wondering that last night myself. They shouldn't be peaking too early but amazing how things can just turn around 180 degrees so fast. Right now they'd have to be my pick. They've gotta go far though I'd think.

Also thank you Pens. My boys needed that. Now if they could do their job tomorrow and beat the stupid Canes that would be even better.

Rinne is starting to let in quite a few. I hope that continues if the Wings face them in round 1.

Glen Wesley and McCarty tearing up is emotional. Love when guys who haven't won it or have been through a lot to get back get it. Luc Robitaille winning it in 02 was great too. There is a video of him hugging Scotty, crying and just saying thank you.

I am a casual hockey fan who goes to a game every once in a while and definitely enjoys it but doesn't know much about the business side. In looking at the program the other night at the Pens-Panthers game, I noticed that James Neal is only 24 years old. Why the hell would Dallas have traded away such a young and talented player?

Remember when people laughed at me 2 months ago for saying I still thought LA was too talented and a scary first round matchup if they made it in?

All the sudden they've won 6 in a row, are 9-2-0 in their last 11, and sit as the 3 seed in the West. I don't like the sound of playing them in the first round.

1. They had Jamie Benn who they thought would develop into a better player (which he did) and take over his role. Overall they had a surplus of young talented forwards and Neal wasn't putting up huge numbers last year.

2. They're defensive depth was miserable. Outside of Robidas, they had virtually nobody that could QB a powerplay or provide some offense at the blue line and move the puck well. Pens had a lot of dmen like that as Goose was getting 3rd line minutes and wasn't getting the time he needed on the powerplay to develop. He seemingly had as much potential as Neal to Dallas at the time

In the end, its what one would call a "hockey trade" where both teams benefit. What I don't know is how Shero was able to swindle Nieuwendyk into throwing Niskanen into the mix as well. I was positive when I first heard about it that Shero would have had to give them Goose and a draft pick/prospect to get Neal but it somehow worked the other way around. Unbelievable.

Yeah, I hope the Hawks just go all out for the 4th seed at this point. Unlikely if DK gets a suspension, though. I want nothing to do with LA. They have a lot of talent on that team. Carter, Richards, Kopitar, Brown, Quick, Doughty.....a lot of very good players. Not to mention they'll likely have home ice (with fewer points :rolleyes )

Not to mention we can't score against them. 3 goals in 4 games against the Kings. It would be a disaster for us. I don't understand people wanting to play for a lower seed, even if it was the Stars. Get the most wins you can. 4th seed would be sweet.

Yeah. Obviously playoffs is a bit different. Hawks didnt' even realy show up for a couple of those games against LA. But again I have no confidence in that match-up without a healthy and in-game-shape Toews. If Toews is back, then Hawks can beat anyone. Also would be nice to see Brandon Saad get a shot if his juniors season ends soon.

Just imagine a 1st line of Saad - Toews - Kane next year. Hope this kid pans out because he is dominating OHL this year. Hawks got a steal on him in the 2nd rd.

We don't need another first line of all left handed shooters. I like Kane and Hossa together with maybe Saad on that second line. Put a right handed shooter on the top line (Sharpie) and....I don't know who.

There are no more right handers in the game. 11 of the 12 Wings forwards right now are lefties.

When it was 25 - 19 - 88 it was all lefty shooters too. Think it's more important to have the most talented players and worry about L/R shooting later.

Still, we would have a pretty damn good top 6 next year if Saad is ready.

Would want no part of LA but last 2 meetings against them have been without Toews, Montador, Hjlamarrson and the 1-0 game against them in December we controlled but Quick was lights out. It would be a tough series though no doubt.

I wish LA or SJ would take the 8 spot. That could potentially be a real tough series for the Blues.

At this point I think Colorado and Phoenix are going to be the odd teams out. SJ will get it done when it matters.

I have a huge man crush on Halak, as evidenced in this thread :lol

Dude scares me between the pipes during the playoffs. He can steal games. Hell, he stole 2 series against GREAT teams.

I don't see SJ making it. I think this is the year that breaks them. They tried so hard to make so many moves, both offseason and at the deadline.

Doan obviously put PHX in a tough spot, but I think Colorado makes it. Every single game SJ has left (besides that one against Anaheim) is against someone else in the race. It's RIDICULOUS. Going to be fun, I just think they blow it. They need to win those in regulation, most of them. It's just going to be hard for them.

Plus, fuck SJ.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

Natural hatty for Cole. Those are always fun.

Just gonna voice my opinion on the Keith suspension real quick - I think it's nonsense to a certain degree, just because of the consistency problem. Shane Doan, Deryk Engelland, etc. are proof that 3 games would have been consistent for Shanahan. He's got to figure that out. Reference:

http://video.nhl.com/videocenter/con...id=0&id=144284

Was Keith's hit dirty, reckless, and it has no place in the game? Yes, yes, and yes. Should the suspension have been 5 games? Yes and no. I think a hit like that is worthy of 5, but if you're going to give Doan (repeat offender) and Engelland 3? Keith should get 3. If you're going to stay consistent now and start handing out more 5 game suspensions? Sweet, then I'm fine with it, but unless he stays consistent now with Keith's length, I think it was too long.

Does that make sense? Or is it the ramblings of a drunk man?

Totally agree. Not a good hit but not really sure why it was worse than others. This is the league just appeasing the whiners from Vancouver, IMO.

Not to mention not a fucking peep from the league on Sedin's bullshit cheap shot that started the whole goddamn thing. I'm sorry, but a part of me says it was worth it to teach little Danny a lesson. I thought all hits that targeted the head were subject to possible suspension or fine? Apparently they didn't see that one. And of course they can't suspend him. Van says he's out until the playoffs so if they gave him a game or two he would miss a playoff game (supposedly) and there would be a fucking uproar.

Guess we'll see if Hawks have what it takes now missing 2 of their best players.

no but he is confident he will return "this season," so within the next 2 weeks i guess that means. I wouldn't mind getting him back and having him play 2-3 games, right when Keith comes back. Keith says he is going to use the suspension to rest as much as he can for the playoffs, something that Duncan Keith needs drastically.

I guess three or four days ago he finally made it back to the ice, yesterday he did some intense workouts after practice with the skating coach, and today he was a full participant in practice w/o contact, so it looks like he is definitely getting there. Can't believe we have gone 9-1-1 without him, but we do have Johnny Oduya, and that 9-1-1 record w/o Toews is also our record with Oduya, so we're set :lol

What is with everyone talking about this 7 seed nonsense? We're up 6 points on Phoenix with 7 games to play, they are without Doan for a BRUTAL 3 game stretch here (2 SJ and one against the Blues) and then still have another game against the Blues.

I don't see any way we drop below 6. The Yotes can max at 100 points, and I don't see anyway they even reach 96, which would mean we need 4 points out of the last 7 games. I really don't understand this 7 seed crap everyone is talking about.

the fuck? Why would you think this? So you're saying we're gonna lose out and Phoenix or someone will win out? I mean I know were not up by 10 here, but were up by 6 points, and nobody really has an easy schedule from here on out. Goddamn the attitude of some Hawks fans in here is embarrassing.

6 points is not insurmountable by any means and anything is possible now with Keith out for 5 games, no one knows how the new defense is going to react with his absence. Teams behind them could get hot you never know, I mean Hawks have managed to go 8-1-1 over their last 10 and they've also lost 9 in a row at one point, anything is possible really.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

It is conceivable that Dallas & LA really push each other to mid-to-high-90's in pts and the Hawks falter without 2 and 19. But it's pretty damn unlikely. Would take a pretty huge collapse for Hawks to fall out of playoffs (or even 6 seed as discussed) at this point, and for all of the games between the PAC teams to be 3-pt games.

Plus, no playoff series is going to be "easy" so hopefully they are prepared for whatever team they get.

As of now first round opponent is either going to be Van, Pacific winner, or DET/NSH. I would be comfortable playing the pacific winner, assuming Hawks are fully healthy, or Vancouver. Really wouldn't want to face Detroit if they heal come mid-April and Nashville always gives the Hawks fits.

There is nothing better than beating the Habs. I'm sorry Pens, Rangers, Devils. The self-entitlement Habs fans have against everyone else is second to none in the NHL--followed closely by Vancouver.

If you played Vancouver 4 times a year I think you might call it a tie.

Nope. Vancouver doesn't have the history, nor the championships to overtake the Canadiens. I hate them so much. The fact that they employed Chris Chelios and Claude Lemieux in the same decade is despicable.

Back when the only Pittsburgh fan I knew was my dad(he's from there) I used to love watching Jagr and Lemieux work their magic. It is amazing to see how Jagr has evolved his talents to adapt to his age and his teammates. He is definitely a great fit for this team and has done more than I could have expectes

Nope, they usually give Hawks fits. Don't understand why Hawks don't call up Pirri to take #2C role instead of Morrison, guy has added nothing.

Brendan Morrison is either done or he hates the Hawks, because he looks like he doesn't really give a fuck whether we win or lose. Looks like he's out there just collecting a paycheck. What a sad "effort" he gave along the boards before that first goal.

Eh, I wouldn't go that far. We got him for free essentially. It was a gamble and it didn't work out. I wouldn't say it was awful by any means though.

Ugh, i hope it doesn't happen in the first round. Not sure either team would come out alive. Would kinda be like the second half of Gladiator and both teams drop dead at the the end.

So I guess one of the girls I may be going to the Hawks game with on Sunday is friends with Nick Leddy from back in Minnesota. I guess last week was her bday and it was Leddy's as well, and she went out after the game with Kane, Shaw, Leddy, and Crawford and then went to Leddy's and "drank until 7." or they boned.

Oh, and newsflash, apparently Kane is an asshole :lol.

Hey guys, I missed you all terribly.

Regarding the Western Conference playoff race, it's been a hard-fought battle for my Avs, but I fear they're out of it. Currently in a tie for 8th with SJ and LA, but have played two more games than both teams. It will be awfully close, but I'm mentally preparing myself for them barely missing out. Two losses this past week (albeit one in OT) really hurt.

Made some good progress this season, though. Grew a lot and learned how to play better in a system.

And man, I forget how douchy the Canucks are. I sometimes roll my eyes at the comments made in here about them... until I watch them play my team. :lol 3 guys gaining up on Steve Downie last game was hilarious... as hilarious as Downie galantly taking them all on.:lol

The best was when ever Canuck on the ice went at Thornton including guys on their bench and the Canucks somehow ended up with a 5 on 3 because of it.
