I just remember sitting there, completely stunned for like 5 minutes. Although it hadn't been explicitly stated, everyone pretty much knew that Patrick would be retiring at season's end, so that season was viewed by many as sort of the last hurrah, or the beginning of the end. It was also right before I left for Brazil for two years, so that left kind of a bad taste in my mouth. I had nightmares about Andrew Brunette for months.

What's with Derek Morris not being able to keep up with arguably the worst skater in the NHL at the time?

If tonight's game goes to overtime.... my goodness. Last time the Flyers went to a game 7 overtime that I was watching was....... I can't remember.....

I was on a plane to Seattle for Game 7 against the Caps back in 08... (The Lupul goal)

I know, I know. I remember sitting there, the Avs went up 2-1 and thinking "this is over." I couldn't believe it. I hated them so much back then, I was jumping up and down in my dorm room by myself when the Wild won. I think I heard Pang saying in that video, they thought it was there for the Avs that year with the Wings already being out and that's what I remember thinking but instead it was the 6th seed Wild and 7th seeded Ducks in the WCF's. lol I thought Patrick would have come back after losing that one. Just had to watch the Classic Series video of the Canucks/Wild series that was on the side there. Down 3-1 twice in the playoffs and to win both series was amazing.

either team has really dominated each game in some way.
not expecting OT tonight.

:lol And I believe I remember thinking, "with no Wings in the way, how can we NOT win this year?"

If Wings and Avs win, they meet in round 2. So you were gone for the lockout? Lucky you. lol

Yeah, I got lucky. Only really missed one season instead of two!

At the end of the Wings/Avs rivalry that was awesome for me, and even as just a hockey fan that was fun.

Hey guys! No more starting new threads for new seasons of any sporting event. There's the "The NHL thread", "The NBA thread", etc.

That helps a bit! ;)

The playoffs the year before that included my personal worst sports day ever, May 31, 2002, a day when:

• My favorite team in any sport, the Avs, lose to the hated Red Wings in game seven of the WCF (and it's not close).
• My favorite NBA team, Boston, loses to the Nets in game six of the ECF and is eliminated.
• My most hated NBA team, the Lakers, come from behind to beat the Kings in game six to force game seven. (Years later, the improbable victory is revealed to be part of the Tim Donaghy betting scandal.)

I'm ok with this. It keeps us from having to go into the thread he started because it made him feel like something was bigger than it is.

Back when I still watched the NBA...the Lakers thing sucked so so bad.

Amazing what Hairy Legs and the Unspeakable Things can do.

Re: The NHL Thread

I can't take credit for the suggestion to do this, but I agree with it. There's really no point in having multiple threads, season and off season (even though we don't do off season).

rickyh24 04-30-2014 10:50 AM

I never understood why there was a new thread for every sports season.

It's been like that forever so I just accepted it. I REALLY don't understand the need for an offseason thread. After the playoffs of said sport, it pretty much becomes the next season.

I do want to state for the record that I haven't shaved since the Kings comeback.

EDIT: but I will be shaving tonight, regardless. I'm going to keep it a "series" long thing.

Well don't come crying to us when they lose in the next round, then.
