Yeah, that's interesting, but I think it doesn't matter anymore. Early voting numbers across the country are up substantially from what they were in 2016. For Trump to attack mail in voting now won't work because it doesn't matter anymore with two weeks being out from Election Day.

One thing Trump does well that I wish Biden or hell even other politicians did during these debates was to take a weak point and ask Biden to explain it. "What about x, joe?"

I wish joe did more in the moment analysis of Trump's lies. If a question was "what are you going to do about x" and Trump just spews some none answer about the past, I thought it would have been powerful for Joe to go "folks, listen to what she asked, she asked about what we need to do going forward. The president didn't have an answer. No plan. He didn't give you anything he plans to do about what she asked."

There were 75K reported cases of coronavirus yesterday, the day the President said we had rounded a corner and that it's going away; while on the debate stage.

Over the past 3 days, roughly 3,000 people have died from this virus - in what is now a 3rd wave, while the President took no responsibility and promised a cure (the vaccine) in a matter of weeks; when the fact is that this is going to be a rough few months.

He presents a false choice between binary paths with COVID: one of a total lockdown that is cast as more restrictive than any seen in the first wave, and another of being completely open with no restrictions, no masks, etc. Ignoring that we can have an open economy and a fair degree of social interaction, while taking precautions to reduce spread of the virus.

On a night in which it became as clear as ever that a fall/winter wave of the pandemic is coming, the President made a clear pitch to more of the same approach that leads to sickness, death, and economic ruin.

Glad you can get a rapid test. Quick turnaround on testing is what's going to do a ton of leg work to keep the economy going and allowing for social mobility. The value of being able to know, within 30 minutes, if you have enough viral load to spread or not, with or without prior exposure, is HUGE.

The fact that we don't have rapid testing available everywhere because supply is limited, and there's very little federal and interstate coordination, is a complete failure.

We are going back to no indoor dining in parts of Illinois again and people are freaking out of course. "Why's it okay to go to Target but not sit in a restaurant for 90 minutes???" Gee dumbass, let's compare those two things. One is a 15 minute or less visit with constant moving, mask wearing, only touching things you're taking, and minimal to zero interaction with others. The other is a seated situation for an hour or more where you are not wearing a mask for a majority of it while handling silverware and plates and other things that have been handled by multiple people while interact with hostesses, wait staff, runners, busboys, bartenders, etc.

Comparing to 2016 again.

The third debate in 2016 was October 19, 20 days before the election. Clinton obviously won the debate and her lead, built by the access hollywood tape, stayed steady for the next week. It started regressing to the mean and then the comey letter came. 11 days to discuss the comey letter. It started to tank quickly.

Compare that to 2020. The third debate, which Biden won, was only 12 days from the election. He should get a little bit of a sugar high from it, say 5 days worth, which leads us to 1 week before the election.

It isn't a major issue to me personally, but having a presidential option running against the worst POTUS in history who doesn't contradict himself on policy would be nice. Politicians change their views, I'd prefer someone who was aware that their view has changed and be able to explain why. It's not much different than the GND which George Stephanopoulos correctly pointed out has contradicting messages between what is on their campaign website and what is stated vocally.

What is the contradiction on fracking?

He said he is against fracking on federal lands, is for keeping existing fracking, and is against new grants for future fracking sites.

That's been a consistent message. Role the tape, he says as much. He doesn't say he is against ALL fracking. He's spoken to the specifics, and the details matter here.

Its just amazing how none of these people even give a second thought to the president doing nothing about this one way or the other.

Shouldnt they be mad he doesnt actually do anything besides tweet "OPEN UP"?

One other big difference is how many people this year have already voted. It probably already skewed toward biden anyway but maybe pads his lead in case something goes wrong.

biden has said multiple times that he's against fracking, full stop, and multiple times his campaign has clarified that he's against federal land fracking


this is....GOOD! while I don't love the politics of constant hedging back toward the bipartisanship golden cow, I like knowing that the person I'm voting for is personally against a bad thing but is working piecemeal toward eliminating it. that's progress.

BTW... even if he wanted to ban fracking - as far as he's ever going to get is the position you've laid out. Fossil fuels will be the slowest 'phase out' of anything we've ever seen. Just too much money at stake.

As someone who previously touted the availability of rapid testing near me, I have to admit, I’ve walked back my opinion of them.

Rapid antigen testing (which I think is the only type that exists right now) isn’t going to catch a positive if tested too early. Their reliability is what - about 50% rate of false negatives?

We need to send a strong message that regardless of test result, if you have a known exposure (Bruce, for example), you need to notify who you’ve been in contact with (to the best of your ability - like if Bruce then went to his parents house for a visit) and self-quarantine.

We won’t “round the corner” if people get a false negative and go about their business. We can’t rely on testing with that poor of results. We need a hard push on self-quarantine and monitoring for symptoms.

I believe there was recent approval for a more reliable antigen testing, and that could be good news.

But I’ve gone back to my earlier stance. We can’t just rely on a negative test.
Particularly in the case of known exposure, the message still needs to be hammered hard to self-quarantine.

Gonna be a tough sell when a lot of the “leadership” of this country refused to quarantine or even take a test after known exposures.

He was asked in the July 2019 Democratic presidential debate if there would be any place for fossil fuels including coal and fracking in a Biden administration to which he answered "No, we would work it out, make sure it is eliminated and no more subsidies for either one of those". The question was wide open and not specific to federal lands, if he is for keeping existing fracking it would seem he would think there is a place for it in his administration and he wouldn't aim to end it.

This is the best youve got here? His explanation of slowly phasing it out still falls under this. The end goal is to eliminate. Youre really stretching.
