I honestly am disappointed in the Rangers. They managed to give me false hope this season which I didn't think was possible. Once the playoffs started most of my preseason fears have come true. The offense has completely dried up. The team is 100% reliant on Hank as always....it is way past old . Not the kind of hockey I want to watch.

I complained in this very thread all offseason that the Rangers needed more size in their lineup. It was obvious to me that they lost to the Kings on size...they did nothing to fix it though...in fact they got smaller by losing B. Boyle. Now that we are in the playoffs all those issues are being exposed.

By all means the Rangers could still win this series. They were down 3-1 last year in the second round too. That said, I don't think they will. Honestly, I think Caps in 5 at this point. Even if the Rangers do come back and win this series...it is becoming clear to me that they would just get crushed by a western conference team again anyway. My biggest peeve with this team since 2011 was scoring and more recently size. If we are going to lose I want to lose 7-5 or 5-4 rather than 2-1 or 1-0.

Hawks fans have no idea how lucky they are to have that team. Wish NY played that way.

Anyway, I won't be able to watch until game 5 because I have finals until Friday. Hopefully the Rangers are still relevent at that point.

End rant. Congrats Caps fans....pretty sure you got this series unless NY has a total turn around.

Jesus Christ, lose two games and people are ready to give up.

So you think it's possible for a goalie to shut out the Rangers, in the second round, and only be average?

Come on man!

Both goalies were great. You want one epic save in a 5-4 game have at it. I'll take the goalies and hockey tonight.

Sitting in the stands, I had no idea either. I saw Beagle behind the goal, then I saw the puck in the net. No clue how it got there. I was worried for a second that somehow it had gone under the net and would be disallowed on replay. BUt hey, I'll take 'em however we can get 'em!

Easy. Ref saw #43 and put his hand up. That was a total reputation call. No question in my mind. Wilson has to be careful how he hits people now, because refs are looking for excuses to call penalties on him. Which is really too bad.

I hear ya.

My comment was based on a few things though.

1) frustration that this team was so close and didn't get it done.
2) the same problems that hold us back keep happening and go unfixed
3) the playoffs happen during finals....which has me double-stressed about everything
4) I always have a melt at some point during the post season

That said, honest question to you....do you think the Rangers could win a series against Chicago?? Even more honest question...do you think the Rangers would even win more than a single game in series against them?? I am a huge Rangers fan and I don't think we would win more than a game against the Hawks or Ducks for that matter.

I don't think any team in the east has a chance in hell after watching the playoffs unfold. But damn is it frustrating. The only way I was not going to be frustrated and would have confidence in the Rangers was if they got through the Met playoffs pretty easily. That is clearly not going to happen. It was the only way I would have thought they may be on the same caliber as Western teams.

I still want to make the finals because I am a fan. I will always allow my self hope again (as much as it kills me).

I am a huge proponent of the idea that ANYTHING can happen in the Cup playoffs.

The Rangers are a team that was in the Stanley Cup Final last year, and only got better since then. I'm a huge Rick Nash fan, and I'm not sure what mentally is keeping him from being Rick Nash in the playoffs...but I think it's one of those things that as soon as it clicks for him, he'll be a monster. Just needs to get over the hurdle. I think last game was a step in the right direction for him.

My love for Yandle and Hank are well documented too. I think the Rangers absolutely have a Cup run in them. Hockey momentum can turn on a dime.

To the bold. I think it is easy and common to blame the individual. As Rangers fans, we have almost made this a tradition. The truth speaks to my earlier posts. The style of playoff hockey the New York Rangers play does not encourage offense. In fact, it stifles it. Rick Nash is falling victim to a system that does not produce goals. If you put him on the Hawks he would probably score 10-15 goals in the playoffs.

It reminds me of how we all got on Gaborik when he was here. He would score 40 goal seasons through 82 games and then suddenly not be able to score at all come post season. We basically chased him out of town for it. He goes to LA and scores 14 goals last post-season. SURPRISE!!....it wasn't him. I have every reason to believe Rick Nash would be the same way if he was somewhere else.

I agree hockey momentum can change. I really hope it does starting tonight. That said, if the Rangers win it will be on defense and low scoring hockey. I am not sure that style will ever win a Cup. They proved they could win a lesser conference with it last year. Reality set in when they played the West though.

At the end of the day...LETS GO RANGERS!!

I always love the wikipedia pranks. Fun and harmless. In the past, I know that the Capitals owner has been listed as "Henrik Lundqvist" after a Caps/Rags series, and the Nassau Coliseum page said it was closed "by the Washington Capitals" last week. I think Braden Holtby may have been listed as the owner of the Bruins at one point in the past, too.

We came back from 3-1 last year, but if the Caps win I think the series is over. Can't really keep using Caps history as a measure. They are clearly a different team this year.

:lol exactly. I've even been saying all season I think this is a better equipped Caps team to be successful in the playoffs, and I still have zero confidence they will win this series. They definitely might, but they absolutely could screw it up too.

Yes, yes, that does ring a bell. Wasn't that almost a year ago? And aren't the NYR in a different season now? And aren't the NYR down in a series right now? Speaking about present times, I'm nervous until NYR have 4 wins in every playoff series in 2015.

Literally what I said was that Caps are historically a miserable playoff team. They've done nothing to change that since they started making the playoffs again over the last 8 years. The same cannot be said about the Rangers at all.

I'm not debating history. I'm speaking about being down in a series, and having to win tonight. Because if the NYR do not win tonight, it will be difficult to come back from a 3-1 deficit... even against a historically awful Washington Capitals team.

I mean they aren't the Red Wings certainly, but winning the East one year ago and getting to the conference finals 3 years ago isn't the same kind of miserable that I've been through.

I wasn't debating anything. Was just saying it's silly to say you assume the worst from your team when your team won 3 rounds last year. That's not really a worst case scenario playoff run.

Right, but your using words like "historically". Even though crash89 is a Flyers fan, I have to agree with him. Proving my point. Maybe the misery isn't the same for you in DC as it is for us in NY but a few trips to the Cup with 1 win since 1940 isn't exactly cause for celebration either.

Good argument. Typical, coming from someone who lives in Pennsylvania.

Wow. I leave here for like a half hour and look what happens. :lol

I'm off to meet some friends for beers before the game and then to the game. Everyone behave themselves.

What??

Getting knocked out in the 1st round. Okay, it stings, I'll deal with it.

(not saying this happened last year, just in general) Losing a heart breaker in 7 games in the Finals, stays with you for a while. "Oh man, the _______'s were right there!!!! Who knows when or if the _________'s will ever get back there again."

I can assure you having 115 point seasons and losing in round 1 or getting beat 6-2 + 5-0 in game 7s on home ice stay with you for a very long time

Apples and oranges. And as you originally stated, the Caps are a historically bad franchise, so you should have expected it.

Well I was at first kinda hoping that they might change that bad luck with this new core. That hope has since faded, hence why I always expect them to lose

It has to do with you not knowing what it's like to be defeated in the Finals. I know this is the NHL Thread but NY has had the Knicks, Yankees, Rangers and Giants all go to the finals and lose in my life time. I remember those a lot more vividly then I remember the 1992 1st round loss.
