They need to weigh what he'll bring to the team on the stretch run and what they can get now vs just trading his rights at the end of June.

I don't know if they are going to get rid of Timmonen, only becuase
Hextall said he wasn't going to rush him back to just show him off to potential suitors, which I respect. Would love to get rid of a lot more than that. I think Hextall is smart enough that if he was giving a proper budget to work with he can do wonders

As soon as people start counting them out is when they seem to make their run. That time is now. 8 games straight or whatever with a point, now 3 winnable games in a row. I'll be at one of them, Buffalo on Thurs night.

I'd be all for it. He scares me with the puck and don't see much leadership coming from him being a 7 year vet w/ the Flyers.

Re: The NHL Thread

The problem isn't Coburn, it's the Flyers for thinking he's a top 2 d'man. He's not. He's been forced into the wrong role and it's why fans think he's a bad defenseman. He's a great second pair guy (top line when paired with someone like Kimmo). When was Coburn at his best? When the pairings were Pronger-Carle and Kimmo-Coburn.

Coburn has trade value and teams have been willing to give up a lot for him. But getting rid of him just to shed cap space is idiotic.

I don't want to move Coburn just to shed cap space. I want to move Coburn because he's going to give us the most value coming back.

If I had to rank d-men to get rid of, it would be:

Grossmann
Schenn
Timonen
Coburn

It's getting difficult to contain my level of excitement. What a great move here. It doesn't shake up the chemistry that this team has had and adds to key pieces that are going to contribute immediately. They're both UFA's but we get them for a 1st rounder, Olli Jokinen, and a meh prospect. I'll take it any day.

Plus both of them were drafted by Nashville. :lol

Can't do anything this year. It's just another season to prove how fucked this team is. At least three years away from being a legitimate contender thanks to Holmgren's horrific tenure as GM, which you defended every time I brought it up. Now they're a dogshit team with another failed season who hasn't won shit in 40 years, but it's fine because "this year is a wash."

It's gonna take fans not going to games to get Snider to wake the fuck up. The Sixers will be exciting before the Flyers at this rate.

I don't think anyone defended Holmgren, just argued with you because you come in here with over the top and insane reactions to everything acting like you know what is best. I don't think there is a single fan in here that doesn't know he has crippled the team's flexibility with his deals, but you come and look down on any Flyers' fan who actually roots for the team as being idiotic or supporting Holmgren. Bold is not remotely true. I want more than anything for the Flyers to do well. The complacent "good season, we'll get 'em next year boys!" attitude that fans have toward the Flyers versus any other team in this city, regardless of the outcome, is sickening.

And bullshit no one supported Holmgren (or Clarke, for that matter). People in this thread are just like radio callers and forum posters who think the team can do no wrong. I don't think wanting to win a Cup, or looking back at the horrible moves and calling them horrible is insane and over the top. You're obviously content to just watch a team in orange and black play hockey, regardless of the outcome, so good for you. Some people actually want to see a winner.

There absolutely is a correlation - Holmgren's tenure was an extension of the disastrous management this team has suffered from for close to two decades. Instead of making meaningful changes they simply shuffle guys around the organization and bring back familiar faces who will bend to Snider's every stupid whim.

And you're going to admit this team hasn't been legitimate contender in over a decade and not get pissed off about it?? That is what's insane.

that was pretty sweet. Amazing how he's able to do that every time. It would drive me nuts as a goalie and just be like "make the move already" and I'm sure that's part of what happens in their head. So used to things going so fast during actual play, then you get that change up.

Here or in Nashville? Here, I'm the only damn Wings fan who posts and the team has been around 90 years.

Loading up doesn't mean too much though. They did it in 2007 with Forsberg and got bounced in round 1.

Both here and unfortunately here in Knoxville. Nashville is coming around to being a hockey town but everywhere else in the state just does not give a shit at all.

As for loading up with Forsberg in 2007, you're correct about that but what's happened her is depth has been added where it wasn't before. The top lines are solid and Franson and Santorelli are adding missing pieces that aren't going to shake up team chemistry and will only add to what's already a dominant possession team.

Of course anything can happen in the playoffs but this does nothing but make even more excited for what this team can do.

I think it depends on who they play. If they don't finish 1st and have to play the Blues or Hawks, that would be tough. I think they beat the Jets or Flames, although you never know. NHL playoffs are weird that way. Then you also have LA and the Wild coming up. If you face a team that has been rolling going in, those are tough as well. I can't wait for the playoffs. Worried my team will be out in round 1 cause Tampa and Montreal are tough, but overall looking forward to it.

NHL playoffs are the hardest to predict imo. At any given moment, any of the 16 teams could turn it on. I'm scared to death of an early exit.:lol

I think the Perds are for real this year. LA is always dangerous, but I think they've taken a step back.

Chicago is always dangerous, and so is St. Louis. But I think the Perds have no problem knocking off St. Louis. I'm not overly convinced with their goaltending and such.

Re: The NHL Thread

Well Howard looked better last night than his first game back, so that was good to see, even with a loss. Baby steps because you don't want any issues with a groin for a goalie. They also made the right move sending Mrazek down and keeping Monster. Depth, depth, depth.

If Wings want to do anything in the playoffs, they need to make a move. They aren't as good as the Habs or the Bolts. Need some help on D and that guy needs to be able to produce offense as well. I'm ok with them not making a move if they would have had to send away a big time prospect though. They need to think about the future too.

Hey now, I think many of us have given plenty of love to the pesky Preds over the past couple years. :thumbsup

Under Trotz, they were always one of my favorite teams. Always working hard, always finding ways to beat an opponent using something that wasn't necessarily pure skill. I love seeing them thriving under Laviolette as well. It's a testament not only to his coaching, but to the organization and the quality of players they develop.

The trade was a fantastic one. Seriously, kudos to Poile for pulling it off. Franson, I think, will excel in this more structured system and in a role where not as much is asked of him. He's better suited for that #4-ish spot, and he'll thrive there with the Preds I think. Santorelli is such a good depth pick-up as well and is such an upgrade over the failed Jokinen experiment. The big piece going away is of course the 1st rounder, but the fact that it will probably be like pick number 28-30 makes it well worth it. Why not at that point?

The Preds understand that they've got a core, and now they just need to build around it with complementary pieces to make sure that every single roster spot is filled by someone who makes a contribution. This trade was a perfect example of that.

Finally, the Riberio acquisition has my vote for most underrated off-season signing. How awesome has he been, especially when it was looking like his career was on the rocks?

^ I'll second all of that. I freakin love the Preds, easily my favorite Western conference team

Chad90000, my only caution would be this. Two words. David. Poile. There were some really good Caps teams in the 80's while he was the GM there, and whether it's just bad luck or really just that the Caps are cursed, they just never quite got over the hump. This isn't the first time Poile's had a good team in Nashville, but still, never quite got over the hump. Let me be clear, I absolutely love David Poile and think he's a fantastic GM. But speaking from a little bit of experience, I'd be nervous heading into the post season. But I'll be pulling for you guys. Go Preds.

Here to also give love to the Preds. Love Nashville, it is one of my favourite cities in America! I also liked the team on Facebook!

Only way I will dislike them is if NY and Nash meet in the finals haha

I know it's not hockey but I did a story on Tim Kerr's son, Garret, who is lighting it up in D2 basketball in Philly. May be the city's best player: http://www.pressofatlanticcity.com/s...3ba1835cb.html

I'm torn. I would love to see Perds win the Cup for Lavy, Weber, and Forsberg's sake.

But if James Neal ever touches the Stanley Cup. So help me.

Isles and Preds look to be legit teams for a while right now. These are definitely teams that remind me of the Hawks & Bruins 5-6 years ago. Young talent and a puck possession style of hockey will take you pretty far.

Remember when the Caps traded away Forsberg for Martin Erat? Poor Caps fans.

It's been awesome man. Sleep's been hit or miss, last night was a big ol miss. Barely got two hours. One thing I've learned about having a daughter, putting together matching outfits and accessorizing fucking rocks

:D Could not help myself.

Anyway, definitely looking forward to the playoffs! Can't come soon enough at this point! Hope the Rangers finish as strong as they have been playing! To win the division would be great, but I am more concerned with what they do in the second season. Glory in the post season far exceeds awards for regular season play.

I remember the first night longer than like 2.5 hours straight, I woke up after about 3 and checked to see if he was breathing.

Can do it with boys too. Put a Red Wings onesie on him with overalls over it. He rocked it.

Who would slip out then? haha sorry. Boston? Can't imagine them making up enough ground to overtake the Caps who are 12 ahead right now.

If the Flyers slip in past the Bruins there would be so many pink hats in the gutter

Yeah it'd have to be boston. May not be too likely, but Philly is only 6 out and were 12 out a week ago. Theyre hot right now and boston is a little cold.
