nowadays it takes record breaking numbers for a goalie to carry you to a championship (see: Tim Thomas)

the Flyers have answered, and proven us all wrong, and made that huge splash. Sounds like their gonna get Simon Gagne, the health-nut

It's insane how these players cashed out yesterday. Really a perfect storm for these guys. Going to create problems in the future. Glad Ray Shero watched from the sidlines.

Bowman did too. Brunette at $2 million is probably a deal he probably would have gotten more somewhere else. Montador was maybe a tad overpriced, but the highest I would have went on him was $2.5, and he got $2.75. 250k isn't going to kill this team anymore. It's nice to be a destination team.

The LA Kings lose out on yet another high end UFA. What is it about Dean Lombardi that players don't find appealing?

Gaborik, Kovalchuk, Richards, Hossa, amongst others.

Didn't you know LA is a shit-hole!?

Richards didn't want to play for a western (coast) team. He was sick of all the travel.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

The Kings are a couple of players away from being a great team. Too bad no one wants to go there. Don't understand why. Another legit player and it's a legit hockey town. That city is so big they could probably support a cricket team.

The Kings are going to compete in the West, but they aren't up with the Hawks Wings Canucks and Sharks.

Hawks talking trade with Habs. The name Moen is getting thrown around, but idk why we need ANOTHER 4th line winger.

Did Burke sleep through yesterday, and thought today was UFA day. 2 years at 4.75 per. Jesus. That is unbelievable.

I'm sure will be seeing more action from him in the coming days, most likely on the trade front. They are still a fringe playoff team at best..

Just double checking, Dan Carcillo really signed with the Blackhawks, right?

Not practical joke or something? It really happened?

Rangers better re-sign Cally, Duby and Boyle. Also, they better give the "C" to the right man (Cally) and not the newest prized possession.

Yes. That happened. Welcome to NHL Free Agency 2011. Nothing makes sense.

FLA really overpaid for mid-level players but they will be better. Make the playoffs? Probably not. While they've improved I'm not sure they improved enough to over take all 7 teams ahead of them from last year.

As for Richards, glad the deal wasn't totally stupid. But you are giving a long contract to a guy who is 31. How long will he be good enough there? I give it 4 years till he's bought out.

Wings also added Ian White this afternoon to a two year deal. I like the deal and I like their D. Lidstrom-Stuart, Kronwall-White, Ericsson-Commodore. Gain some offense back from Rafi leaving and add some D in Commie. Now it's time for a backup goalie and maybe a forward.

I agree with the bolded. As a Rangers fan, I am a little weary about this deal. Not only is he 31 he also has a history of concussions. I would of much rather Sather had gone after Stamkos for the veteran deal.

Haha Connolly to the Leafs. It's going to be entertaining watching tiny Tim get booed out of Buffalo three times a year

The most entertaining part is that the Leafs are paying $5.5 and $4.0 mil for a guy who has never had a 20 goal season. Although, considering yesterday that's just par for the course.

I wouldn't call trading Carter and Richards "blowing up" a cup caliber team, but they certainly did pay too much.

trading your top 2 goal scorers and not replacing them could be up there with "blowing up" a cup caliber team.

They weren't the two top goal scorers.

The problem with our "top two goal scorers" was that they put themselves ahead of the team. So, who cares...because hockey is a team sport.
