Maybe Hawks will take that as a wakeup call.

Re: The NHL Thread (where the Presidents Trophy matters!)

Clearly the Hawks are the better team overall. Kane, Toews, Panarin and Hossa need to step it and distract the Predators leaving guys like Anisimov, Panik or Hartman (Kruger, Kero and Hayden to a lesser extent IMO) to make an impact on offense while having Keith and Seabrook firing shots through a Toews, Anisimov or Hartman screen will be tough to defend as well. Basically if Crawford and Darling play well I do not see the Preds team winning this series, Chicago is just too deep and has too many weapons for them to cope with

Outside of the first period they they played a solid game. Hopefully Anisimov will get back to normal and net some chances.

edit - they will also have to play more physical even if it costs them a few penalties.

Agreed, Hawks are the better team.

It was a backhanded comment. All NHL players are fucking good players and can score at any moment. Is Willy the Goat? fuck no, but he can certainly score just like every other player on that ice.

Hell fucking Tanner Glass had a goal. Anyone with a stick is dangerous enough to score a goal, Babs should know that

Re: The NHL Thread (where the Presidents Trophy matters!)

Pretty sloppy.

Lazy play by Orpik, not exactly what you want from a veteran. Williams played hard, so did Niskanen.

Shattenkirk got some good looks, needs to bury one of those.

Yay for the weekend - I can actually stay up and watch (some/most) of the Oilers tonight.

Blaming the refs always has been, and always will be loser talk.

Key points to watch out for:

-3 Canadian teams played last night, and 3 Canadian teams lost...all at home. Tonight 2 Canadian teams play and both are on the road. Will either break through?

Make that 0 for 5 for Canada. Unfortunately I think the Habs have the best chance of coming back. Senators would be my second pick.

-Are the Caps ready to be the heavy weight title favorites everyone has talked them up to be? Or will Austin Matthews make his mark at their expense?

Caps didn't look ready, but they also avoided losing.

-Just how violent will the Ducks and Flames series get?

This game started too late for me to watch.

-Will Calgary win its first game in Anaheim since 2004?

Apparently that was a no.

-How many times will we hear Chelsea Dagger tonight?

:shrug Sorry Hawks fans

-And finally, will Barbs make an appearance in this thread tonight!?

:multi He was here!

My picks for tonight's games (since last night I was pretty on).

Toronto at Washington: Capitals-4 Leafs-2 Close on this pick

Nashville at Chicago: Blackhawks-6 Predators-2 Was way off here

Calgary at Anaheim: Ducks-3 Flames 1 One goal off here

Not a bad night again! Picked 2 of 3 games winners correctly, but missed the final scores on all three.

Year after no Canadian teams made the playoffs, 5 of them made it this year. All 5 lost their first game :lol :lol

Re: The NHL Thread (where the Presidents Trophy matters!)

I haven't watched Toronto much but they looked awful last night. So many passes to the skates, blind passes, no sustained offense.

I'm guessing they will only play better from here.

The Caps on the other hand had terrible coverage in their own zone, mainly in the first. They also must have wiffed on 10 shots.

The Caps got killed in the circle. That will bite them if they manage to move on and try to go deeper in the playoffs.

Yeah, there is that too and they had some grade A chances but rhinne was on point and their D played well. On the plus side Crawford looked great last night.

I though the officials did a great job last night actually, Wes McCauley is probably the best ref in the league. Not sure how they did not flag that delay of game though - it was pretty obvious and a 5 on 3 for just under 2 minutes to try and tie it up would have been helpful.

Edit: There is one sports game I know the refs cost me - the infamous tuck rule game. That was a damn fumble by Brady when Woodsen sacked him, not some tuck, even he knew it.

There's no context (he was asked how do you prepare for Tom Wilson) but I'm not sure Babcock meant it with any real malice and that's what Wilson said after the game last night when he was asked about it. He actually said he took it as a compliment that Babcock said that he worked hard and agreed with him that the Capitals have much more dynamic weapons than himself

In other words, no big deal and the Caps fans making a big deal out of it are reaching for something to gripe about

I did not watch the whole game (and I probably won't get an opportunity to watch a whole one until game 4) but I will say I did not think the Leafs looked awful. I only watched the 3rd + OT but honestly they looked every bit as good as the Caps did. We'll see what happens tomorrow, but they're gonna have to show real killer instinct here if they wanna actually go deep this year. Getting deep in the trenches versus a much inferior round one opponent ain't gonna cut it.

I thought the question was facetious to begin with. Obviously no one prepares for Wilson :confused
