I couldn't imagine being the kid who paralyzes another athlete. Hockey is such a fast game and it's so unfortunate these things happen. As for the paralyzed player, there is nothing worse to hear than having the thing you love taken away and told you could never do it again, let alone the fact his life will forever be altered.

So the vote by player reps for the realignment was 28-2. The two teams? Detroit and Columbus. Big shock. But Winnipeg voted for it? Really? The SE is better for you? Some of the stuff they are saying is find it fair for everyone and with the travel. Well Western teams shouldn't care really cause it'll be easier travel. The Pacific teams might have longer ones but that's it there. It levels the playing field in terms of who travels and who doesn't. And the playoff thing, yeah you are playing with 8 teams instead of 7 in some divisions but top 4 is top 4. They also say it's not CBA posturing? Yeah right. Paul Kelly, former head of the PA, laughed because the players wanted to have a home and home with every team following the lockout and the NHL said no cause the only was more games. Well now they get a home and home and the players don't want it? This is the best way to make it as level as possible. Unless they go to like 84 games again.

Arniel fired in Cbus. That whole organization is a cluster f**k. It's too bad cause if they could get it together I think it could work there.

Absolute shit show going on between Vancouver and Boston management since Saturday. I love it. And vignault has to be the biggest hypocrite in the league and I love that julien called him out on it.

Fuck, tell me about it! :lol I know it's cliche, but injuries have really hurt the cause again this year. I guess as long as we aren't drafting 1st overall thats a plus...right?....right? Playoffs seem like such a distant, unreachable dream right now.

The only downside to all the high picks, if they all work out it'll be hard to keep them all. So I guess pray for what happened to the Hawks and win it quickly before the entry level deals are up.

I used to think this too but I'm losing faith pretty quickly. Nobody likes hockey here, Ohio State has one of the best men's teams in the country and there is literally nobody talking about it. The team will stick around for a while because they are now tax-payer subsidized by the city but boy will it be brutal to watch

It's just hard to tell when the team isn't good. I'd like to see them even like a Nashville team where they are in the playoffs almost every year.

Well we may never find out :lol

I just think that if there was any interest in hockey here there would be some excitement brewing for the college team.

Since I think the Coyotes would end up in Quebec, Seattle may be calling for them. lol

Agreed, but we should be able to keep most. I mean the Pens have Crosby, Malkin and Fleury under big deals. Chicago has Toews, Kane etc. We should be able to keep **most anyway. I already hate envisioning the team without any of Eberle, Hall or RNH

RNH has been very impressive. If I had to keep one it might be him. But yeah they can make it work. It'll be the support cast which will be more work. Just if they want a stacked team they'd need to do it fast like the Hawks. They knew what they were doing in the summer of 09.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

That was definitely clipping, albeit a very cool hit. By the suspensions Shanny's doled out lately, I'm surprised it wasn't less games. It's quite obvious Salo's apparent injury on the play was a big factor in this one.

This to me is where the line gets blurry... seems to me the question needs to be more widely considered, at what point does supplemental discipline need to be looked at by the league, and at what point do you let it be handled in game by the on-ice officials?

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

When I saw the replay I agree its a dirty hit. However I don't think it deserves 5 games. Hits like that occur fairly often and I've never seen a suspension for them. Hell half of then dont even get called for penalties.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

Yeah I mean he got a pretty serious penalty in game so it's tough. I agree where do we draw the line. It's not like he didn't get a penalty in the game. Had that been the case I'd have no problem with the suspension.

Take a look at this video. The inconsistency on hits of this nature are hilarious. One isn't penalized and the other is a 5 minute major, game misconduct, and a 5 game suspension.

Leave it to Gillis and Vigneault to whine enough to the league so they coddle the Canucks. Never does that group of douchebags ever have to stand up for their diving, whining, and hair pulling. At least they have never won a cup and never will.

Not at all, especially at a time when we are really, really struggling. The team has looked pretty bad lately. Defense back to being bad, goaltending back to being sub-par. Basically we're back to the mediocre team of last season because our depth is mostly injured. Kruger, Carcillo, Montador...underrated members of the team that I think we miss quite a bit. Losing Sharp makes us a 1-line team again, just like last year.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

The difference between the Mason Raymond hit and the Marchand hit is that Raymond made a play on the puck and ducked to avoid a check. Marchand deliberately avoided the puck and hit Salo low when he was in no danger of getting hit like Raymond was.

It's spot on, Marchand totally deserves to be suspended and Raymond did not. Marchand's suspension could be a tad long, but that's not that big of an issue to me.

Getting hit in a dangerous way I should say. Just because Salo was going to check him if he would have made a proper play for the puck, doesn't mean Marchand can puss out and take out his knees and not even make a play for the puck.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

And for the record I'm not trying to turn this into a complete clusterfuck of an argument. I just don't see how one hit isn't penalized and the other is a 5 minute major, game misconduct and a 5 game suspension. Both guys ducked when they saw a hit coming. If one hit is a major penalty and suspension the other should be as well.

The puck is at Marchand's feet. He ducked the hit and was going to have control of the puck. Both guys ducked on hits. I don't see how it's any different.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

One guy makes a play on a puck and commits a counter check, and the other makes no move for the puck and takes out someones knees. Just because they look the same doesn't mean they are the same situation.

Raymond is avoiding a check and the way (Marchand? Can't remember who got checked by Raymond) falls and the way Raymond ducks is just the way the play went. There is no reason for Marchand to make the check he did, especially as he is making no effort to go for the puck.
