Re: The NHL Thread
huge shoutout to the GMBM - caps have made a bunch of VERY good moves

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
Saw on the local Utah news tonight they’re planning a dedicated NHL arena outside of the Jazz arena. Makes. No. Sense.

I think fans have very unrealistic and problematic takes when it comes to player's lives. I get from a NY Rangers standpoint they want to move on from his cap hit. I get that he is no longer playing anywhere near the value of his contract. However, the man negotiated his contract, and they gave him those rights for a no-move and limited move after 15 years. He also has every right to decide what is best for his family. I can tell you with 100% certainty that if I had a baby under 1 year old and my wife was still finishing her residency at a local hospital, I would also be telling the Rangers I am staying, or I will only accept moves to NJ or the Islanders. Anything else and I am refusing to report to any other team. |

Does anyone know when single-game tickets go on sale for the Toronto Maple Leafs for the 2024-2025 season?

Re: The NHL Thread
Trouba has been out of gas the last two deep playoff runs. He plays too hard during the regular season. Keep him on the 2nd pair and not play him as much in the regular season and things should be good.

Rangers fans (not me obviously) always massively panic and overreact. Fox was also getting flamed hard during these playoffs. I totally believe Trouba's contract is way too much money, but I am also cool with keeping him and either moving him as a part of a package at the deadline or just waiting out the contract at this point. I am not someone who thinks the window is closing in the next year or two. Especially when we have potential big upgrades coming from our prospect pool. The only thing that does concern me is Igor getting overpaid and crushing our cap. |

Kraken hire NHL's first woman assistant coach
That's a gino for the local team! |

the arena was not built with hockey in mind, so there are some beyond awful sightlines. like, cant see the goalie sightlines. theres no way it can be used as a permanent home for hockey. idk if its part of the plan, but the jazz should just move to this new arena when its done. delta center is going to be 35+ years old at that point and they would need their own upgraded home soon enough anyway. |
Re: The NHL Thread
so there is a good chance TJ Oshie may have played his last hockey game. the way he's talking sounds like he certainly won't play more than half a season next year
sucks seeing the old caps core finally starting to come to an end. backstrom last year also wasn't able to step aside on his own terms |

Re: The NHL Thread
Hey gang. A post a long time coming....
I wanted to relay a huge, public thank you to any and everyone who donated to the "swordo84 Oliers-happy-good-times-fund". I'm proud to share that collectively we made a $250 (cdn) donation to CureSMA Canada (https://curesma.ca/about-us/). This charity has been immensely helpful to me and my family in the past, and I always love an opportunity to donate more. We had a son stricken with SMA, and unfortunately lost him just short of being 4 months old. He would have turned 8 a week ago. Despite the likelihood of him being a Leafs fan, I made the donation on his birthday before we went out for our annual family fun day in his honour. Again, from the bottom of my heart, and on behalf of my family, we deeply appreciate the generosity shown from complete strangers on a 90's band message board (what are we even doing here?! lol). Time for puckdrop yet? Eager to see how I'll be disappointed this season :) |

Swordo, you said you were donating to a cause that was near and dear to your heart, I had no idea. I’m honored to have been a small part of his day. Much better than buying beers or Oilers gear.
Love this small little group of guys in here (even when your team demolishes us every year). :hug |

Re: The NHL Thread
My god. Just got the news. This is awful. I just posted my pictures from the Flames game where Johnny Hockey tossed me a puck during pre-game warm ups in NJ. What an awful tragedy. Glad they caught that driver at least, but the damage to that family can never be undone.
|
Re: The NHL Thread
I have patience for, and accept a LOT of things, both good and bad in life. Drunk driving is not on that list.
|
Re: The NHL Thread
There are no words for this. By all accounts, Johnny was just a great human. (and let's not lose sight of his brother too.) And the fact that they were all in town together to go to be in their sister's wedding today........

Pretty awful.

Just saw on ESPN. No words really, just can’t comprehend.
I believe the Blue Jackets lost a goalie a few years ago, too. Rest in Peace. |

I thought this news was fake at first. I checked so many sources and a lot of places didn't have it up yet.:shrug

Re: The NHL Thread
Saw the Flames destroy the Kraken tonight, 6-1. Woof. Good thing it's preseason hockey
Fellas were feisty, too. One gloves-off fight and several scuffles |
Re: The NHL Thread
First ever Utah goal went in their own net lol
|
Re: The NHL Thread
Nice W for Hartford over Providence to start the pre-season. Eventually I suspect we will see some actual NHL players on these teams. Chytil looked good though which is great news for the Rangers!
|
Re: The NHL Thread
Oh Pre-season hockey! Rangers score 5 goals at the end of the game to beat the Islanders 6-4 :lol
Scary moment for Chytil again last night. Glad he came back into the game. Lindgren on the other hand looks like he might be out to start the year. I think the wear-and-tear is starting to catch up with him and how he plays the game unfortunately. On a positive note, Zac Jones looks like he might be taking the next step! |
Re: The NHL Thread
First two Ranger pre-season games have looked like regular season games that is for sure. Great pace and with people trying to make the team or be noticed the games have been competitive. I don't really remember it being like this even a few years ago.

If Tyler Johnson can give some semblance of his Tampa Bay self from a few years ago and net maybe 20-30 goals this year, that is a great get for the Bruins.
Now sign Swayman!!!! |

Re: The NHL Thread
Glad they figured it out in Boston. Have to wonder if the relationship is damaged though. In a similar topic, NY is likely going to pay Igor $12-14 million per year if I had to guess.
|
Re: The NHL Thread
I really hope the B's work something out with Tyler Johnson now. They could use him. They need all of the fire power they can get.
|
Re: The NHL Thread
This might be a shit thing to say, but I don't think Swayman is worth that much relative to other goalies
I saw THG's video about how goalies as a whole might be overpaid and while that may have some truth to it, I don't know that I think Swayman is the goalie to make that point |
Re: The NHL Thread

I am hoping that the Rangers have a deal for Igor done in the next few days, but it looks like this might go until next off season. Not ideal. Shesty will probably break the record for contracts. |

Re: The NHL Thread
Igor Shesterkin rejects an 8-year $88 million dollar contract ($11 million/year) today offered by Chris Drury and the NY Rangers. Likely this was an opening offer in a series of offers coming in the next 2 days. My guess is Igor is asking $12 million/year and a full no trade clause. I would guess that NY will offer something like $11.5 million/year with a full no trade or $12 million/year with some trade options. I would guess that Shesterkin will reject those as well and eventually the Rangers will sign him to $12 or $12.5 million/year with a full no trade. The Rangers have no leverage in this situation. At this point, I would rather them just finish the deal and move on. We are going to have to get creative with cheaper contracts down the lineup.
|
Re: The NHL Thread
Quote:
Their starting 15 remains vastly unchanged from a capability perspective since Hank. And if he couldn’t do it….bad deal for Rangers. |
Re: The NHL Thread
Quote:
The hope: Igor gets paid and is happy, Drury can cap manage and find cap friendly players and the cap goes up so that NY can still ice a competitive roster with cup intentions. What I think will happen: Igor gets paid and is happy, NY is a good team but never wins a cup while he is playing. Cycle continues. |

Let’s Go Bruins!!!!

Continuing to patiently wait for the Flyers. They'll be the last team to start this season. 10pm EDT game at Vancouver on Friday night. I believe every other team will have played at least one game by then. (With TB and CAR also waiting until Friday before that Flyers game.)
