Hey guys and gals. I'm not going to make a big fuss about this and will only post this once. (Well twice actually, once in the NHL thread and once in the Phillies thread.) I know we all have our own little blogs and some of us write for different places just to keep us interested in our team and some of us even write because it's our job. I just wanted to pass along a new website that my buddy and I started:

www.broadstreetbuddies.com

My buddy and I are simply give our thoughts on the Phillies (he'll focus on them) and the Flyers (that's me). We sort of write in our own different styles and aren't trying to pretend that we are in the in, have any breaking news, or are professionals. We just give our thoughts about the teams, recent moves, and game by game breakdowns. He's been doing this for the Phillies on his older/other blog for about 3 years now. I threw in some NHL and Flyers articles very sparsely on the old site and will now go full bore with the Flyers as he has done with the Phillies.

So check it out. Or don't. Or mock me. Or all the above. I don't care. Either way it'd be silly if I didn't at least post it... :) Thanks.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

Read a really dumb blog post today on hockeybuzz. the Hawks are going to lock up Sharp long term, and are shopping Troy Brouwer, and this guy is suggesting that they are dumb for that. his points were:

-the Kings finished one point ahead of us and are making drastic moves to get better while we maintain the status quo
- says we shipped out hundreds of hits from Ladd, Byfuglien, and Eager and replaced that with John Scott

so clearly this guy is dumb.

"The Hawks finished 2 points out of the 4 spot and 7 (4 games) out of the 3 spot. If they were playing to capacity during the beginning of the year and didn't dig themselves holes by dropping a few stinkers:

Columbus, New Jersey, Dallas, Calgary, St. Louis, Florida

Especially those Jersey, Calgary and Florida games." perfect comment on that blog post. The Hawks EASILY have one of the best cores in the entire league, especially when you look towards the future. The Hawks are going to compete for the West and be a contender for the Cup for years, I mean we came one goal from beating the Canucks in what was technically a rebuilding year. If there is one thing that kills us, it isn't Sharp's contract, it's Campbell's. Campbell would be great for us in the $4 mil range, but $7 is ridiculous. I love him, and it is noted that we suck when he isn't in the lineup, but man would seven million go a long, long, long way for this team. Not extending Sharp is stupid, and it will happen because it makes perfect sense.

Fuck that guy

Still waiting for Regehr to wave his no-movement clause, and if this happens the thought is that the Flames would bring Smyth in. This would be heartbreaking to Oilers fans everywhere. It would be like we are living in backwards land.

Agreed. They had been saying from the get-go, even before they got a team...actually back when they were trying for the 'yotes, that they wanted to include the whole province in the process, and feeling of the team and were considering at that time going with the 'Manitoba X's'. Looks like they are sticking with it (unfortunately)

Edit; Winniped Jets = awesome :thumbsup

I'm gonna guess no. I mean you have to try and get something new to sell more merchandise. Now the game against the Yotes in December when they play in Winnipeg....better have throwback jerseys on that night.

Winnipeg should wear their new jerseys, 'yotes should wear throwbacks to vintage Jets gear.

I'm sure it leaked on the net as soon as the NHL got approval. An inside source tells one reporter and it's all over the place.

Richards was on the radio saying he saw on the internet and got the call like 5 minutes later. Not an issue in my opinion.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

Quick funny story about Bobby Orr - He was my idol growing up, I wore #4 when I was playing etc. Anyways, he was dating a nurse in my Dad's hospital so he finally arranged with her a chance for me to meet him for a few minutes. I was probably about 8. The question that I decided to ask him was if he hurt his face when he fell after scoring that goal :lol - I had the famous picture of him paralell with the ice in my room and always had wondered that. At least my Dad was there to help me get his autograph haha

I think it's a pretty good question. I'm sure he got a laugh out of it... and it's probably never been asked. So he probably remembers it. Think about that... every once in a while Bobby Orr gets a little chuckle to himself thanks to you :) I think that's pretty awesome.

what i don't get is that if he declined to waive it last night, why is this heating up and getting close now?

Changed his mind? Slept on it? Who knows. Other teams in play maybe.

"Told reports that Blackhawks D Brian Campbell refused to waive his no-trade clause for #CBJ are inaccurate. This from high source in #CBJ."

"Campbell may have declined to waive his NTC within the last few days, but it was not for #CBJ."

it's nice with there being a little bit of mystery to who the top pick is

cool stat
Only 8 times has a player that was picked first overall gone on to win the Cup with the team that drafted him. 3 of those 8 players are Pittsburgh Penguins. Mario, Fleury, and Sid.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins #1 overall. Another great offensive talent on the rise for the Oil. I would have preffered them to take Larsson to fill up the D-line, but can't complain with this kid :thumbsup

Also, LOVING the fact that it's all but a done deal that #94 Smyth is coming back to Oil country!

I'm just glad he didn't go to Calgary. Smyth will be good in Edmonton; especially with all those young players and rookies. It would have made zero sense having him in Calgary... They have enough old, overpaid dudes!

that can't be true because Vincent Lecavalier is one of them, or that stat is wrong

EDIT: nevermind, he wasn't drafted #1, duh

EDIT #2: wait yeah he was

Brouwer to Ottawa for a 2nd round pick, giving them 5 that round. Could be useful when trying to trade Campbell

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

Trade Campbell then sign Richards and a few veteran grit players for the bottom 6 and you could pretty much hand the Cup to the Hawks. Nice to dream about though hah.
