I hate to sound like Eklund right now, but I have my sources. You guys should know me by now--I don't make stuff up. He's not getting 7 mil a season.

Even at a cap number of $5-6mil, I can't imagine it less than that, it's still questionable in my mind. One rumor out there had the 7-8 years but a number around 5mil I think. I can't imagine a short-term deal at $5mil or so cap hit. It would be dumb on Bryz's side of things. Do the Flyers really want to sign someone else up for 7 years? Still got Pronger for 6 years and the midget for 4 more. Right now he just screams past Flyers goalies based off his last two playoffs.

I don't know what the Flyers young goalies are like but Bobrovsky will be gone. You aren't going to have him as your backup for 7 years.

All the respect in the world to Nick Lidstrom (one of my favorite all-time players) and Dan Bylsma, but IMO Shea Weber was the best defenseman in the league this year, and Barry Trotz is long overdue for a coach of the year award.

I'm not saying Bylsma doesn't deserve it, especially with how he was able to keep a team together through a slew of injuries. I'm also not saying Lidstrom didn't deserve it... at 40 years of age and playing like he is, he deserves heaps of praise. But I would've given it to Trotz - who has instilled a culture of winning and hard work with a very average roster in an obviously non-hockey environment - and Weber, who is the best all-around defenseman in the game right now.

Not a big deal, not crying about it, just wanted to weigh in.

If this deal is signed I believe Bryzgalov would have a bigger cap hit than any goalie in the NHL.

Absolutely. Carter is either Mr. Invisible and/or Mr. Glass once the playoffs start. I would be doing back flips down Broad St if the Flyers could unload him for picks or role players. Leino was brutal last year. Yea, he had a great playoff run in '10 but he was beyond bad in '11. The decisions he would make with the puck made Matt Carle look like a fucking genius (who is one of the dumbest players to wear the orange and black in recent memory). Oh, I'm sure someone will. I probably phrased that wrong/weird.

I'm more talking about the notion that they can get decent draft picks/fair value for Carter when he has that ridiculously long contract.

With his ridiculous contact it could be a tougher sell for teams.

At the end of the day, the guy isn't worth the contract that Philly gave him last November. Sure, he scores goals, but he won't be doing that 11 years from now. It's going to be tough to get the same value (picks or players) for the guy because of that.

Oh, and don't forget that starting in 2012, he has a full no trade clause until 2015, so that's creeping up too.

That's a very good point. I really don't expect the Flyers to get "fair value" for Carter. I'd be happy just to get decent draft picks and/or some role players that won't be a liability on the ice. I'm not a big fan of Carter and I think his money can be better used to improve other aspects of the team.

Carter also has a NTC clause that kicks in once the 2012 season starts so now is the time to move him

The Jackets could use some help for Nash. I know that was a rumor a while ago and it makes sense in that way.

Also this was on the subject of realignment.

http://www.ottawasun.com/2011/06/22/...-major-changes

Not sure how this would work to get Columbus and Detroit in the East and still have a 15/15 split. Obviously not close to a done deal but I'm glad they are trying to be creative. Honestly the travel is the biggest thing for me. The West really gets screwed no matter who they are. I mean even if you take CBJ and DRW out San Jose still has to go to Chicago and Nashville twice a year and that's brutal compared to any trip in conference a team in the East has to do. The whole talk of more balanced schedule interests me the most.

interesting ideas. I guess somebody else would have to come west, or another team in the East (Florida) would have to come West.

The Flyers are in a pretty similar situation to the Hawks last year, if they sign Bryz for even $5.5m or so cap hit a year. You guys are going to have to dump Versteeg and Hartnell/Carter, Leino will be gone, and then you're likely going to be in the situation the Hawks were, where you have to replace those guys with cheap players.

It's probably not quite as bad as the Hawks last year because the cap is going up so much this offseason, but I wouldn't be too confident about the whole situation.

To get something you have to give something. I agree with you that it's probably too much, however the Flyers weren't going to give him away. They were going to get a package like this.

It all depended on how much CBJ wanted a "scorer" (see misses the net more often than not).

When you've been as bad as they've been and had the attendance they had, you get forced into making a deal sometimes. They need an attention getting trade or signing and this is it. The #8 pick could turn into something but you never know. You've got a sure thing coming in now.

@GMillerTSN Gord Miller
Done deal, and it's a blockbuster. Phi trades captain Mike Richards to LA for Brayden Schenn and Wayne Simmonds.

They're old school style players in a new NHL. And honestly, they are not close to the most talented guys on the team anymore.

Well OSU is kind of a big deal here

They were a goalie away of being a legit contender and now they trade Carter ANF Richards for young talent but unproven.

Seems like a dream doesn't it? They have to have a bigger plan right? Brad Richards maybe?

They just dumped a crap load of salary. Would have to look at CapGeek but on my phone right now.

And two contracts that last through this decade

They have to sign Simmonds and Schenn, Leino, and Bryz. Brad Richards may be out of their range. I'm honestly not sure what is going on across the state from me.

The Flyers just traded away almost 700 career points, and got back like half of that in three players. Call it what you will, but good is not a word I'd use. Especially with a team that is a year removed from coming within two wins of a Cup.

:lol :lol Flyers

Trade away your top 2 D-men to screw yourself on a goalie, when you got to the finals with Leighton and Boucher.

hahahahaha

so if (or I guess I should say when) they sign Bryz, who are they going to keep, Leighton or Boucher (or both)?

I would say they are both gone, and Bob will be #2 until they figure out he is better.

Didn't realize Voracek was a RFA. His salary is probably doubling.

Jesus the Flyers just lost a ton of talent.

I think they stand to gain some... it's just in different areas.
