Daley will be sorely missed in this series, Pens D needs to be very active and focus on making the simple plays and get the puck out of their zone. Shot blocking has been great and needs to be even better in this series. As far as Murray's mindset, thats probably at the bottom of the list of things Im worried about. |

Phil Kessel's new nickname- prince of whales.
|
Re: The NHL Thread
See Toronto, Kessel is good with a team around him. He's not expected to be the main guy and he can excel.

I agree not having Daley is a tough break because the way San Jose plays they are going to have to take more blue line shots and the Sharks are an extremely efficient defensive team who just chucks loose pucks out like trash. They are also a very disciplined team that just doesn't take many dumb penalties at all. Going to be a very interesting series and I doubt it will be decided in less than 6 games. As for skating as the series wears on, I highly doubt that is a concern of the Sharks. The 'experts' said they couldn't skate with LA and they blew the Kings out. They weren't supposed to be as quick and motivated as Nashville but they beat them pretty solidly. They were supposed to be outskated and outhit but the Blues but they took care of business in 6 games so they will be well rested for this series. Their power play if lethal and their PK is damn solid. Their coaching is great and Deboer knows what matchups he wants. You know I am a Chicago fan and the Hawks despite losing are a really good team who would probably have advanced if Toews had gotten a single goal, not having Keith for a game and losing Shaw for a game probably put the nail in the coffin. I will be honest with you, I would be very wary of San Jose because they are playing so well in every aspect of the game and you know they are motivated because a lot of those guys have been with SJ for a long time and to win a cup in their 25th season is even more motivation. Frankly, they way the Sharks are playing I would not write them off at all, they really are that fucking good. |

For the Leafs, they knew they had to start the rebuild properly and he was too good to ensure they get the 1st overall pick. That jerk would steal 5-6 games easily and give them less of a chance to draft in the first spot. In many regards it was addition by subtraction to give us a chance to be the worst. I don't care for the return we got for him. I think the penguins won that trade. I like Kapanen, I think he's a Kadri type of player and under Babcock (if he listens to him) can develop into a quality player, and the first round pick (29th ovr) the leafs will package with a couple of their 22 picks over the next two drafts and move up in the first round (late teens, I'd expect). I hate Kessel as a person, he was fat and lazy and if he gave a shit could have been one of the best players in the world, but I hope he does well and think it would be cool to see him lift the cup. |
Re: The NHL Thread
The Sharks haven't yet played as fast a team as the Penns.
On the other hand, the Penns haven't played a team that plays as well as a team as the Sharks do. So all in all, it'll be a great series. Evenly matched. I'm going to say Sharks in 7. I'd be fine with either team winning (which is a great way to watch the Finals, BTW), but giving a slight edge to the Sharks, simply because I love their team-oriented system and because they've got some graybeards who I want to see get a Cup. But I definitely won't be breaking furniture if the Penns take it. |

Burns scares the shit out of me with the way he can produce. Top to bottom this series will be two heavyweight teams trading blows. Even if you hate one or the other, or both, it should still be great hockey. |

Stamkos says he'd like to stay in TB. Not sure how much weight to put behind that, I feel like he pretty much said this all season. Also a comment that came on the heels of a round 3 elimination. |
Re: The NHL Thread
He might want to but it'll be tough. He'll have to sign for 8.5 and that's then 8.5 that's could go for a couple of guys. He could have signed by now if he wanted to stay. Tampa knows what they can afford and he knows it too.

Looks like I'm going to Pittsburgh if there's a game 7 and watch this thing outside. I may try and make game 5, but I'd have to trade shifts and get my Wednesday covered.
I'd LOVE to be in the house for game 7 though, I just want to see the cup. Nothing in sports compares to seeing the cup. |

This could be accurate if Jamie Benn was actually a freaking center idiot.

Re: The NHL Thread
A couple of days after the lightning were defeated they were multiple articles from Islanders pages on my Facebook feed saying how the Islanders and Stamkos might be a fit . Heard no chatter at all the whole year and then a bunch. I found it quite interesting and out of nowhere.
I'm of the opinion not to pursue him since JT will need a similar contract soon and much of our young talent will need raises. Haven't seen a ufa list yet but I assume Okposo is gone so they need a top winger for JT somewhere, which is where I think this comes from. Cap is going up but not that much. |

http://m.thn.com/blog/pavel-datsyuk-...he-wrong-page/
:lol :lol :lol :lol Timmy, thoughts on this? I mean, I'm no Wings fan, but I can't think Datsyuk leaving one year early at age 38 is even remotely close to the same thing as what happened with Federov. This article seems like garbage to me and is kind of insulting to Pavel, honestly. |

Yeah we'll have to see. I think he could stay around but who really knows. He likes it their and the organization obviously loves him, it'll just come down to making the cap figures work without sacrificing what other guys may demand in 2017 and beyond. |

Even with the lose, Jones looks amazing. Love to see him doing well. |
Re: The NHL Thread
Never post in here, no real NHL allegiance (RIP Whalers) but I usually follow Bonino and root for the teams he's on. Great kid, went to high school with him, very humble and an all around good guy (his poker skills though, yikes. I remember winning a couple bucks off him easily :lol ) Glad to see him being successful :thumbsup
Kid is clutch. Our high school state championship game he scored the game winner in double OT, I think everyone remember la the frozen four final a few years back when he was on BU....pretty awesome to see! |
Re: The NHL Thread
the sharks looked so slow tonight. They were definitely flat footed in the first period. Jones bailed them out numerous times. Going to be a tight series.

Rangers and Stamkos would be an awful move. Seriously, we would have to move everyone basically. It would keep both sides from ever winning the Cup while he was here.

Re: The NHL Thread
In non Finals news, and doesn't look like it was talked about, but Bettman at the state of the league PC sounded like no Olympics in 2018 because of cost, although I do wonder if it being in a place like Korea and not in Europe or North America, plays a big factor. It doesn't benefit the NHL to be there. I'd actually be more interested in seeing the kids there.
Also, as we expected, we'll get a decision on expansion before the awards. |
