The other thing that I think the owners will buy into is that this leaves the door open for league expansion whenever the time is right. I don't necessarily think expansion is the right thing to do, but its more money gained for the league if it happens. I think this might be the happy medium that a lot of teams will buy into. |

The schedule makes it fair pretty much across the board though. Teams like Detroit and Columbus are going to LA or Vancouver just as much as New York or Boston. Plus the playoffs would be great for the Western teams. SJ's not going to Detroit or Chicago in the first rounds and Detroit and Chicago aren't going out there either. While some people might not like Philly leaving the NY teams you can't please everyone. You kinda have to make a choice Pitt or NYC? I like the divisions in the East. It keeps NYR, NYI and NJD together and it keeps the SE teams together. The other one keeps the Canadian teams together along with Boston/Mont, Boston/Philly, BUF/TOR and of course Philly/Pitt. Washington might like Pitt not being in theirs too. I wasn't thinking expansion like you but I was thinking it sure leaves the door open for moving the Coyotes to the East if they don't sell. |
Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
Quote:
I had heard the expansion thing tossed around a few times in the media and having that imbalance leaves the door open for a number of options between teams moving or new teams starting. Moreover, if any new teams were started in the western regions, Detroit, Columbus, or Nashville could seamlessly move into the east. |

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
Can I get a reality check in here?
Been speaking with my nonsensical Pens fan friend at work (see italics) who keeps telling me how furious he's been due to how poorly the team and organization is being handled. They aren't being truthful to the fans and he's sick and tired of players sitting out and wishes the team wouldn't coddle players like Malkin, Crosby, and Kennedy and just make them play already. They aren't getting paid millions of dollars just to sit on their asses and watch the game from Lemieux's box. Malkin is not at all committed to the team and only plays for the pay check. He pushes through nothing, if he hurts a little bit, he's out. If he would just reattach his balls they wouldn't have lost as many games this year and the team would be fine. Yada yada yada...this team pisses me off and I'm angry. This guy is insane right? It makes perfect logical sense that injured players don't "suck it up" to play in games in October and November right? This guy is so adamant about his position that I started to question whether I've been too forgiving of the situation or something. I just needed to speak with some logical folks about this. Thanks |

Malkin does deserve some criticism every now and again for not fully stepping up. But Kennedy and Crosby? Provide him with the unfortunately long list of players who have had great careers effed up royally by concussions, i.e. Lindross, Lafontaine, Savard, et al. They'll play when they are good and ready. Yeah, the Pens are fine and will be better once everyone is healthy. Hockey is my favorite sport , but my interest is probably at it's lowest point in November/December. The initial excitement of the opener has worn down, and there's still a ton of season left. In other words, remind your friend there's not much to worry about right now. |

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
Been incredibly tired after late commutes the last couple of weeks, so haven't seen much live hockey, but I just caught up on a couple weeks' worth of Sabres' highlights. Don't know what the hell is wrong with Ryan Miller right now (5 GA vs. the Jets?!?), but I'm glad that Enroth has stepped up while Miller figures things out. That, and Derek Roy is playing like a man possessed these days. He may only have 9 points this season, but I think almost all of them have come in the last 4 games, so now, when they're finally breaking out of playing .500 hockey, is a great time for him to get going.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
Great effort from the Hawks. Phenomenal job holding the Oilers to only 7 shots in the 3rd with only 5 d-men. Nick Leddy and Duncan Keith having excellent games yet again. Leddy has looked so, so good lately. He's throwing his weight around a bit more and is a force moving the puck up the ice. The possibility of losing Seabrook for an extended period of time is scary, though. That did not look good.

Yay for 4 game winning streaks. Howie's looking pretty damn good. He's getting written in for goalie on my ballot. Fucking Jame Reimer is on the ballot but Howie isn't? Had a good year last year with a good playoff and this year is 5th in save %, 3 in GAA and tied for 1st in shutouts. Imagine if his team could have scored for those 6 games that they went 0-5-1.

Doesn't surprise me about the Sabres. They've had problems with protecting their goalies for the past few years. That's why you often see Miller punching opposing players since his own teammates won't. Lucic is a punk, though I would take him on the Sabres any day

Also, I really don't have much of a problem with Lucic not being suspended but I think the way Brendan Shanahan has handled this is strange. First, he meets with Lucic and says that he is fine with Lucics explanation for the hit. Obviously, Lucic is going to say the right thing and not admit to maliciously hitting Miller. What does meeting with him really accomplish? Shouldn't he also meet with Miller to hear his side of the story? Second, after the Sabres responded in anger to no suspension, he responded by firing back at the Sabres calling them irresponsible, which seems to be a very petty and unprofessional thing for a league official to do. Either way, the Sabres may have pussed out in the Boston game but they've also won 5 of 6 games and sit in first place in the NE so I'm satisfied. Something tells me we may see some fireworks next Wednesday when Boston and Buffalo meet again. |

Yea I don't know if the Sabres should call up goons because these games are still very important. These 2 teams will likely finish 1-2 in the division standings so calling up goons isn't too smart if it means sacrificing performance. The good thing about the Bruins is that our normal line up is very well suited to hold their own even if other teams opt to call up goons.
