Yeah that's how I would feel. I mean they added some older guys. Does it help them? Won't really know until the season starts. But I don't think it hurts them any.

I'd have rather had the Bruins not make any moves at all than sign Pouliot. He's not bad for the money but he's still got that Montreal stench on him which I absolutely hate. A rookie player could have been just as productive as he will probably be.

I don't think a 2 year $7 million deal for Ryder is bad at all. I wouldn't have been opposed to the Bruins bringing him back for that.

I'm not sure how I feel about Leino, they probably overpaid by a bit but at the same time got one of the better offensive players available. The word right now is that they will try to play him at center. Philly fans, can Leino play center well? Did he at all in Philly?

He's an awesome addition. I wanted the Pens to go after him, but couldnt at that price. You have to be pumped with your new ownership. Great day for the Sabres.

In Pittsburgh, the hate is at an all time level. Jagr, is the most hated athlete ever. I didn't think my hatred for the Flyers could grow. Today it did.

Scott-Mayers-Carcillo is quite a fourth line. Any game against the Canucks or Blues should be interesting.

So I don't get this signing at all. I'm all for signing a pest and getting some energy, but Carcillo is a moron. We have 21 guys under contract now including Smith and Kruger. That's basically a full team, you could probably get one more. Well, we have 3 rfa's. What the hell are we doing with them? 3 rfa's who have value. are we trading them? Sending Smith to the minors again, because that's the wrong thing to do, he deserves to be in the NHL next season. It's going to be interesting to see what they do.

Overpaid a bunch. The only thing Leino does well game in and game out is turn the puck over at the other team's blue line with his back to the play. So happy the Flyers let him walk

Leino's certainly got skill and potential... but for a 27 year old whose been in the league for 4 years, he's just not playing like a guy worth 4.5mil a year. That's not to say that Buffalo won't afford him more ice time and opportunities to improve up to that standard... only time will tell on that one.

Agreed, Sabres front office must really see a lot of potential in Leino to offer him that sort of contract. I think his performance in the playoffs is a big part of that. It definitely is a gamble that could easily backfire for Buffalo but at the same time could work out well. Like you said, only time will tell. I still think a trade is on the way for the Sabres at some point, they have a plethora of players at both wing and D. Unfortunately, I'm afraid most of the players they are willing to trade probably won't net too much in return.

I really don't know what to tell you. Leino is brutal. He holds onto the puck too long, he attempts too many ill advised passes, and he had a knack for TO's at the worst possible moment for the Flyers.

The Hartnell, Briere, Leino line was the Flyers first line. I've never seen a first line winger get benched as much as Leino did during extended portions of games

I can't really say your wrong because I'm not too familiar with Leino other than that game winner against the Sabs in game 6 and his playoff performance the year before. But I have not heard anyone (including Flyers fans) with the kind of negativity towards Leino that you have, so I'll wait and see for myself.

If Leino puts up 25 Goals 40 Assists in Buffalo which is very possible considering he put up 19 and 34 in Philly, do you not think he is worth it? maybe slightly overpayed but not awful.

I am wishing Jagr hits the dl before the season starts. Does that make me a bad person? :leroi At least it's not Crosby, I loathe him even more than Jagr.

I also wonder what former Flyers players think of the Jagr deal. :D

At least the Flyers unloaded the doucher, Boucher. I really hope they keep Bobz, I think he and Byrz will work out well for the team.

Oh, and Buffalo definitely over paid Leino. That could end up like Drury and the Rangers. Defniitely not worth the dough like Duncan Keith and B. Richards are.

Speaking of B. Richards, his "asking price" is $55-$60 mill for 8/9 years. As reported here

Let's get the season started!

Leino has a problem of not taking enough shots, too many passes, and trying to do too much fancy stuff in the nuetral zone. When it works, it looks great on a highlight reel but most of the time he tries a spin-o-rama and turns it over.

I liked him, but definitely not for the money the Sabres offered

You lost 3 of your top four goal scorers. People may think that Leino and Carter aren't anything special, but they were 50+ point guys. Schenn has played a total of like 8 nhl games. Simmonds is a 30 point guy. Voracek not even a 20 goal guy.

So who replaces 4 of your top 5? Brierre and Giroux are aready up there.

39 year old Jagr should put up at least 20 and 30. But Max talbot. He'll lead the team in car dealership commercial.

Flyers need Brad Richards. Goals just don't magically happen.

Schenn is young, so he was worth it. The draft pick is supposed to be a stud as well.

It really seems like Ruff was the driving force behind picking up Leino. He loves the fact that he holds on to the puck for long periods of time, it could work out well in Buffalo where defenseman love to join in the offense. They still lack a great center but I am liking a top-six consisting of Roy, Vanek, Stafford, Ennis, Leino, Pomminville

good, because the Rangers just got him.

and I agree with Joe. You guys traded away your top 2 goal scorers and Leino and replaced it with an over paid goalie, a 39 year old, and a "character guy"

Atlantic division is stacked. Jagr will be good for 50 points. Tablot will be good for 10. The Flyers better hope Bryz is the real deal.

nowadays it takes record breaking numbers for a goalie to carry you to a championship (see: Tim Thomas)

It's insane how these players cashed out yesterday. Really a perfect storm for these guys. Going to create problems in the future. Glad Ray Shero watched from the sidlines.

Bowman did too. Brunette at $2 million is probably a deal he probably would have gotten more somewhere else. Montador was maybe a tad overpriced, but the highest I would have went on him was $2.5, and he got $2.75. 250k isn't going to kill this team anymore. It's nice to be a destination team.

The LA Kings lose out on yet another high end UFA. What is it about Dean Lombardi that players don't find appealing?

Gaborik, Kovalchuk, Richards, Hossa, amongst others.

Didn't you know LA is a shit-hole!?

Richards didn't want to play for a western (coast) team. He was sick of all the travel.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

The Kings are a couple of players away from being a great team. Too bad no one wants to go there. Don't understand why. Another legit player and it's a legit hockey town. That city is so big they could probably support a cricket team.

The Kings are going to compete in the West, but they aren't up with the Hawks Wings Canucks and Sharks.

Hawks talking trade with Habs. The name Moen is getting thrown around, but idk why we need ANOTHER 4th line winger.

Did Burke sleep through yesterday, and thought today was UFA day. 2 years at 4.75 per. Jesus. That is unbelievable.

I'm sure will be seeing more action from him in the coming days, most likely on the trade front. They are still a fringe playoff team at best..

Just double checking, Dan Carcillo really signed with the Blackhawks, right?

Not practical joke or something? It really happened?

Rangers better re-sign Cally, Duby and Boyle. Also, they better give the "C" to the right man (Cally) and not the newest prized possession.

Yes. That happened. Welcome to NHL Free Agency 2011. Nothing makes sense.

FLA really overpaid for mid-level players but they will be better. Make the playoffs? Probably not. While they've improved I'm not sure they improved enough to over take all 7 teams ahead of them from last year.

As for Richards, glad the deal wasn't totally stupid. But you are giving a long contract to a guy who is 31. How long will he be good enough there? I give it 4 years till he's bought out.

Wings also added Ian White this afternoon to a two year deal. I like the deal and I like their D. Lidstrom-Stuart, Kronwall-White, Ericsson-Commodore. Gain some offense back from Rafi leaving and add some D in Commie. Now it's time for a backup goalie and maybe a forward.

I agree with the bolded. As a Rangers fan, I am a little weary about this deal. Not only is he 31 he also has a history of concussions. I would of much rather Sather had gone after Stamkos for the veteran deal.

The most entertaining part is that the Leafs are paying $5.5 and $4.0 mil for a guy who has never had a 20 goal season. Although, considering yesterday that's just par for the course.

I wouldn't call trading Carter and Richards "blowing up" a cup caliber team, but they certainly did pay too much.

trading your top 2 goal scorers and not replacing them could be up there with "blowing up" a cup caliber team.

They weren't the two top goal scorers.

The problem with our "top two goal scorers" was that they put themselves ahead of the team. So, who cares...because hockey is a team sport.
