Eh???

Best case scenario should be NYR OR Boston (but not both) advancing AND Florida advancing. That would mean Flyers get Panthers, by far the easiest match-up for anyone. Flyers would destroy Florida, IMO.

Look at the big picture, not the one immediately ahead. And Philadelphia is a much better team than Washington. They just scored 30 goals on Marc Andre Fleury in six games. Imagine what they would do to a rookie.

And if i had to choose between playing Washington and then FLA/OTT or FLA then NYR/BOS (will beat their opponent), it's obvious who I would choose.

If Flyers are so good, they should be able to beat one of Bruins or Rangers.

Plus, Holtby is playing a lot better than Fleury was. Holtby is a decent young G prospect with some talent and he's playing pretty decently.

I'll withhold judgment on this one. People were saying that in 06 too but the Canes have only made the playoffs once since and Oilers haven't. In 07 you had the Sens and Ducks and now the Ducks have an expensive first line and a goalie and that's about it and the Sens haven't done anything since then either. People thought the Blues were back in 09 and then took them 3 years to get here. Kings the same way with them in 2010 and then last year fell flat and it took them until Carter got there to have enough offense to compete. Maybe it finally is a change of the guard but I've heard that plenty of times and it still hasn't happened.

The Preds will be the most interesting in the offseason. Suter I think will get a big offer from Detroit (and other teams) and I think the Wings will push hard for Parise which might entice Suter to come here and play. Does Gaustad stay? My guess is no because some team will offer him 4-5mil a year and all reports now is Radulov will head back to Russia. If all of those happen or just some it sets the Preds back. Still a playoff team with Poile and Trotz but it hurts.

Another thing I hear this time of year is you make your own luck. Yeah ok. If the Rangers and Bruins go down the road to the East Finals is a lot easier for FLA. What exactly did they do to get the Rangers and Bruins knocked out? Sometimes you just get lucky.

I think Senators get the upset tonight and Hawks force game 7.

Crazy to think the second could look like this

Eastern

#3 Florida v. #8 Ottawa
#5 Philly v. #7 Washington

Western

#2 St. Louis v. #8 LA
#3 Phoenix v. #4 Nashville

While I predicted that a good number of these "upsets" would occur, it still would be bizarre to see so many of the regulars missing.

I've been saying this for over a year now, but I think the Preds set themselves up for disaster. Rinne is great, don't get me wrong, but no goalie is worth that contract. None. They have everyone and their families with an expiring contract, and I don't see any way Suter stays. The Wings will make a run at Suter with a couple dark horses (*cough* Blackhawks *cough*) also trying to steal him. Honestly, I can just see them losing half the team.

I hope the Hawks force another game 7. Just do it in regulation this time. I'm so sick of this OT crap. I want to see the Rangers pull this off too.

I didnt watch too much of the series, I know Schneider looked as good as a backup thrown into starting could in the last 3. But my expectations for Luongo are impossibly high having seen him at his best, along with every Canucks fan and Canadian, not that I am either.

Going to say this before I see what happens tonight...but I believe the NHL needs to restructure a bit to make the regular season mean more than it does now. All you have to do it crawl into the post season and you can win the cup because home ice and rankings literally mean nothing.

If both top seeds crash out, how can anyone argue that the first 82 games are basically pointless? I have been denying this for years, but after watching these playoffs I have to agree.

My friend suggests that top seed gets to play all seven games at home. Now sure how I feel about that. Anyone else have ideas?

I'd say go with first 3 at home for higher seeds, second 2 away and last 2 at home. I dont agree though, its just this year, both conferences are ultra competitive, however look for some structure change talks to take place with the announcement of the redistricting, especially if they take away the East v. West structure.

The only thing I see wrong with this playoffs is the Wings aren't in the 2nd round. The NHL has been like this for a long time. People want to say it's the cap world but that's BS cause in 2003 the Western Conference Finals were between the highly ranked 6th seeded Wild and the 7th seeded Mighty Ducks. In both 98 and 99 the top 3 team from the East were gone in round 1. I love it. I like upsets an unpredictably. That's why I can't stand the NBA playoffs. Once your 16 teams are set you can make damn good guesses of who will be the final 4. But average sports fans they probably really hate it. The like familiarity and that's why the ratings are always good with the Lakers in the Finals in the NBA. Even if it's for the 6th year in a row and why the 2005 finals between the Pistons and Spurs wasn't rated well. Even though it was a great series against two great TEAMS. There was no star power.

I just don't understand why Radulov would go back to Russia. Shouldn't he want to play with the best players in the world? Apparently he'd rather just be the best player in a mediocre league.

Yeah, see....I don't really agree with this. You have to have a bit of luck to win the Cup and make a run in the playoffs, whether it be with injuries, the refs, the bounces, etc. Yes the teams that work hard and play well "make their own luck" but even then, with as close as all of these teams are, you need to have things go your way occasionally.

First part..I dunno. Probably more money plus tax free from what I understand. I have no problem with him leaving cause it helps out the Central.

Totally with you. I mean yeah you work hard and you can get breaks but I look back at the Wings first two Cups. Didn't have to face Dallas in round 2 in 97. Didn't have to face the Stars in round 2 in 97 or the Avs in round 2 in 98 and in 98 Nieuwendyk was hurt so that helped the Wings beat the Stars. I mean the Hawks tying that game against the Preds late in 2010. I mean yeah you can be in the right position at the right time but doesn't mean the puck will be.

Yeah. Which is why I am so thankful for the Hawks' run in 2010. I mean, they beat the piss out of the Nucks and Sharks but the other two series were really close. A couple of breaks the other way and those series could have gone the other way potentially.

Tortorella's presser yesterday was 6 words ("No." "I don't know." "Both." "Good?") and 26 seconds long. Definition of rattled.

I really can't believe the Rangers are struggling this badly with Ottawa. I figured they'd grind them down by now but it looks like its the other way around.

Datsyuk, Backes, and Bergeron named Selke finalists.

I'd go with Bergeron. Pretty decent selections. Hard to imagine Toews not running away with it if he had been healthy all season.

I don't think we're going to get it done without Boyle.

If there is one goalie worthy of the contract Rinne got, it is him. Quick is getting to that level as well. Outside of them there is really no one.

we absolutely can get it done without Boyle, sure he has been great in this series but what we really need is our best players to play like our best players. We shouldn't be relying on scoring from a guy like Boyle who didn't start scoring till the end of the season and into the playoffs...Hopefully Hagelin can spark Gaborik and Richards. We also need guys like Callahan, Stepan, Anisimov, or Dubinsky to step up.

You have to factor in that home ice advantage has not really been an advantage in this year's playoffs.

Good! :thumbsup

In all seriousness though, it sucks that he got hurt, but I still look at that as a completely clean, legal, hard hockey hit. Tortorella whining about the hit was fairly embarrassing.
