I think hjalmarsson is more of the secret than Oduya, and they are really the 1st pairing because they have been getting top assignments all year, because Seabrook sucks.

Anyway, Kings real good, Hawks way better.

That's cool - wasn't really trying to compare, just making an observation about Oduya. But certainly Hjalmarsson has grown into playing a very solid role for the club.

I will agree with bonzo in that Hammer is the better player. He is just much more solid in the defensive zone. Almost never seems to make a mistake. Oduya is more dynamic with his quickness but tends to gamble a bit more and make a few more mistakes.

But even though folks look at Keith & Seabrook as the #1 D-pair, Oduya and Hjalmarsson is the pair that plays the most minutes against the toughest competition. Part of the reason the Hawks are so good is that those two can stifle opposing top lines and free up Keith & Seabrook to utilize their offensive skills a bit more.

Dustin Brown....past his prime if you ask me. Brandon Saad is the better player and IMO should make it instead. Probably won't happen, though.

:lol First off...classic Hawks fan idiotic posts. 1 said Seabrool sucks and another saying 29 year old Brown is "past his prime". I love when Bron thinks hockey players are past their prime like they are on the same career clocks as NFL running backs.

Give me a break Chris. Brown was always one of the more overrated players in the league if you ask me. But he has not looked good this year.

But yes, forwards' prime years are generally 25-27.

How much LA Kings hockey have you watched to make a statement like this?

I think Brown is rated extremely appropriately. He's only been in one all-star game, he's not a huge points guy, but brings a physicality to the game and is defensively very responsible. He takes away time and space very well, which will be very key in Sochi. Having the bigger ice is going to require guys that can do that.

Brown is a great choice.

And as for the age thing, look at tons of guys around the league. You're ridiculous. You don't even need to leave Chicago. Patrick Sharp has been getting better and better as he gets older, is having the best season of his life, and is 32. Wayne Gretzky still was putting up 130+ point seasons into his mid-30s. Jagr is still effective at 41, Selanne has clearly slowed down but was still great into his late 30s and early 40s.

To think that Brown is "past his prime" at 29 is hysterical.

I wouldn't say that Brown has not looked good but he isn't on top of his game. That has a lot to do with injuries, some of which weren't publicly known. I believe he will find his way back to getting more points. But yes, he is still playing LA Kings/Brown hockey (hard hitting, wear down the opponent).

I know he is frustrated as he just signed a big contract and wanted to come out having a better year. It'll come though.

I don't know if I agree with this. On the bigger ice, the US should be looking for guys who have elite speed and skill.

Dude, you can't pick out three of the greatest forwards ever and Patrick Sharp to argue that the mid-20's aren't the prime ages for forwards. Why on earth would you compare a guy like Dustin Brown to those guys?

For every Patrick Sharp there are many more guys like Scott Gomez who flame out in their early 30's. The fact is that most forwards' scoring prime is ages 25 & 26. That much is inarguable.

:lol Again, I wasn't comparing the two, just making a statement about Oduya. I've watched both enough to make comparisons.

I was wondering if perhaps he's had some nagging injuries that aren't being talked about. Just not his usual tenacious self out there.

Still, he 100% is the type of player you want on an Olympic roster. It's about balancing the roster with the right types of skill sets, and Brown brings a dynamic to the table that few other countries can match.

The roster balance was why USA was so good four years ago and nearly beat the over-talented (best problem ever :lol) Canadian team.

You got it buddy. It's about finding the right guys to fill roles on the team. Likes been said before, it's not about looking at a stat sheet and pickin the top 20 guys.
