Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
so a lot of talk surrounding the Coyotes and Seattle. I am a huge supporter of Quebec getting a team back but with all things being equal, arena and ownership and such, who do you think actually gets the team? I hope for Quebec but I have a feeling the league might do Seattle because of market size.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
Seattle is a good sports town. Not sure why they haven't been able to make the NBA/NHL work in the past. They deserve another shot though, if they had the arena downtown near Safeco and Century Link I think they'd draw nicely

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
I want to see Quebec get the team. Canada needs at least 1 more team.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
Nash could potentially be leaving Cbus. I know it can't get much worse there and that some drastic moves will probably have to be made, but this would have to a monumental blow to the fan base if Nash left.
http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=615882 Rough times for the Jackets. |

How many years does Nash have left on that deal? He's a very good player but he's overpaid imo.
|
Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
6 years left (after this year)at 7.8mil. While when you are comparing him player to player he might be overpaid but not for that team. I've said it before give him a decent center and he'd be even better. He's had no support there.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
Im talking about trade value though. I wouldn't want to see the bruins give up too much for him just because of his contract.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
I don't feel Nash is overpaid at all. He's a victim of playing for such a terrible team, inside and out. Poorly managed, poorly stocked, just a mess. This shows up on the scoresheet.
But, if you haven't done so before, try to catch some Jackets games and just watch him. For a big guy, he's a good skater with one of the best shots in the game. Seriously, we're talking maybe one of the top 5 wrist shots in the game right now. No joke. In addition, watch his positioning and where he goes when he doesn't have the puck... a demonstration of great hockey sense that you really can't teach all the way. To add to that, he is deceptively good on the penalty kill, putting that hockey sense and quick feet to good use. Kudos to Ken Hitchcock for recognizing that potential and helping him focus those skills into turning into a strong two-way player. I have a feeling that if he were to get into the playoffs with a good team, he would be incredible. Just the type of guy you want on your team during a long playoff run. His contract is turning out to be an albatross, but if a team was willing to pay the price, and could pair him with some decent talent, I think we'd see him absolutely explode. The Jackets asking price would be high. 2-3 players plus a first rounder. |
Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
I think Seattle would be a great fit for a hockey team. It gives the Nucks a new rival and both fan bases would really get at each other early. Seattle is a good sports city as well.

Let's go Buffalo! |

Good article on current state of the Caps, Ovi and recent playoff experiences

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
The difference though is Scotty Bowman. Dale Hunter might be a good coach but he's not Scotty. Also the Red Wings slowly started to do better in the playoffs. After losing early in 94 they went to the finals in 95, won 62 games and went to the WCF's in 96 and then won it all in 97. The Caps still haven't been able to take their playoff level up another notch. Plus they had so many leaders with Yzerman, Larionov, Fetisov, Murphy and Vernon. Guys who had won or had been around a while. I don't see that on the Caps right now. I had thought they were the Wings back in like 09 and 10 and would turn it around last year but it didn't happen.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
torn between trading Nabokov for as much as a 2nd round pick if he stays hot or keeping him to give the kids every chance possible to try to make the playoffs or at least get close so they get a taste of meaningful games in March. Injuries are piling up on D and the odds are catching the 8th spot is remote but I think it could send a wrong message to the youngsters if we do trade him. It sounds like he has fit in well and no ill effects of him not wanting to report last year so maybe they should try to extend him for 2 years.
I think I'd rather have him thru the season and fall 6 points short of a spot than trade him for another pick. |

I'm still kinda pissed about that goal. If Blues win it's Wings/Blues round 2 instead of Wings/Avs.
