The best part about living close to Raleigh? When the Canes suck (like this year) you can score some ridiculously cheap tickets. Just got Preds tickets down low for $25. $3.00 for seats up top.

RNH out again. I'm almost thinking he should waited another year for the nhl, get bigger and stronger.

They said the same thing about Stamkos. Oilers need to send him to Gary Roberts.

It's imperative for these 1st rounders to have a huge off-season the summer before their second season. I commend these guys a whole lot in staying around for a full rookie season, getting through the grind of a NHL season, and then trying to improve upon it. Has to be one of the toughest things to do in this sport and people rarely realize it.

yeah, hopefully something like does it. he clearly skilled and it's easy to read too much into one injury, but sucks to see him leave the game again tonight.

C'mon Matt. They're both garbage. You know Sestito is the goon of all goons right now. He adds nothing. I'd take Shelley in the lineup 100 days out of 100 over this guy and that's saying something.

I wouldn't. Shelley is supposed to be an enforcer and yet he never actually wins any of his fights (that is if someone actually decides to fight him even though he is "irrelevant")

Sestito can win a fight, and more importantly, he can give the team a shot of momentum after one of his fights.

I'm also a little surprised at the Sestito hate...

Yeah, I have no idea where its coming from. Sestito has done his job. He's mixed it up, he's gone out there and stirred the pot when need be. He's done a lot more than Shelley has done all year.

It should be a no-brainer at almost half the salary as Jody

Thats what sucks about living in NY. Regardless of how good the Rangers are, cheapest seats are $65.

Yup. My friend and I decided we'll just wait for the playoffs if we're gonna spend a hundred each to see NYR v. Carolina or something.

I was following Sestito while he was at rookie camp. He's a useless piece of shit. He was scum in Columbus' organization and is still scum now. I don't want a guy who's gonna play 5 minutes and stir the pot. You don't win games with that anymore. It's 2012, not 2002.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

Yeah, the game is beyond that. The rangers lead the NHL in fighting majors, but it's from guys like Boyle, Prust, Callahan, Dubinsky, and Bickel. All pretty regular contributors. Physicality is a style in the game now, not a specialized position.

Ummmm o.k.

You realize you are talking about the Flyers, right? You realize that they will always have at least 1 enforcer on their team, right?

Why not keep Sestito who does more for the team than Shelly at half the cost?

I've got a buddy that's a Rangers fan. Going to that game also and getting upper level tix for like $8 a pop.

He's more effective than Jody Shelley. I'm still not comprehending all the hate. Sestito didn't make us lose the entire weekend.

I don't think that's the point though, you don't want guys on your team that "don't make you lose" you want guys on your team that are actual hockey players and can contribute to the team other than fighting, someone above used a perfect example Ryan Callahan and Brandon Dubinsky will not only fight you but they will also score goals and rack up assists, from what I've seen (I'll admit I havent watched nearly every flyer game) but It doesn't seem like sestito can do anything aside from fight.

The guy has only played in 22 NHL games and has five points. He's not a goal scorer, and no one is saying that he is, but to call him worse than Shelley or Carcillo is laughable. Once again, I don't even know why we're having this discussion in the first place.

saw that Briere may return tonight, even against the Isles, the Flyers could use him for sure back on the ice- hope he is healthy and cleared

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

They don't need Sestito when they have Rinaldo. Rinaldo has actually done things worthy of being related to hockey, like put up points, get moved up to the third line in the absence of Briere and JvR as well as throwing his body around with the same wreckless but controlled abandon. And he's drawing penalties. Rinaldo has become Sean Avery minus the sloppy seconds and that makes him important to this team, not Sestito.

With both Briere back, these should be the 12 forwards used tonight:

Hartnell*
Giroux
Jagr
Couturier
Simmonds*
Briere
Voracek
Talbot*
Read
Schenn
Rinaldo*
Zolnierczyk* (JvR once he's healthy)
*enforcers/fighters/bangers

You're fucking kidding me. Sestito is in the line up despite Briere being back. Once JvR is back, they have to cut this fucko

I just think BOTH Sestito and Shelley are useless but I'll take Shelley everytime as the veteran enforcer. Their both irrelevant (Rupp's words, not mine. Ok, mine, too.) on the ice. I don't care if Shelley wins or loses the fight.

Sestito has the more skill, no doubt. I just think Rinaldo fills the role, even as a smaller guy. Keep Harry Z in the lineup as the 12th man.

Owen Nolan officially announcing retirement today. In his prime, this guy was the complete package... great skater, shooter, scrappy. And he had that perfect hockey personality: unselfish, fiercely loyal to his teammates, and played every shift with passion. It's players like him that make hockey my favorite sport.

And I know we've all seen it a million times, but gotta post it today as a tribute: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSb_5PHRb1w

Some nice light-reading from one of the most sarcastic hockey personalities out there. Nothing significant, just if you're bored.

Apologies from all 30 teams:

I was in the building for that. It was unreal. The fans all got pissed when I think it was Recchi was named game MVP, not that he didn't deserve it. (Think he had 4 goals to Nolan's 3, and the East won.)

Nolan was one of my favorite players. My only jersey is a 2000 Sharks one with 11 on the back and the C on the front. One of the craziest things I ever saw him do, Sharks were blowing a team out, and Nolan got a late breakaway. He pulled out a "playground" move. Knowing that at least one other Shark was right behind him, he purposely did not shoot the puck, instead faking and letting the puck bounce softly off the goalie's pads...right back to the trailer who converted the rebound easily.

:thumbsup:thumbsup I love seeing players do this. Like when there's an empty net and a dude dishes it off to a guy who's already got 2 goals so he can get the hatty, or to someone who hasn't scored in a while.
