I always found Clement good at speaking for the casual fan but not dumbing it down so much that it makes us "veterans" want to bang our heads on the wall.

Can't stand Edwards. As most people outside of Boston would agree. He is a douche.

Steigarwald is B-R-U-T-A-L!

Jim Jackson of the Flyers is good. Though he's definitely a homer. Not as bad as "Staggy" though. I also think (know) Jim has done some non-Flyers games for NBCSN (when it was Versus) and he was pretty unbiased.

His rant about the Canadiens after Game 7 was pretty hilarious.

And then you have most teams, whose announcers are just DULL.

Plus, an on-ice reporter is nice because there are a lot of things that Pierre picks up along the benches and right on the ice that you definitely can't get from where the play-by-play and color guys are.

What exactly don't you like about the Sharks crew?

On a related note, Doc should really find a (few hundred) new word(s) to replace "knifed".

He does a post game soliloquy that airs on Boston sports radio the day after every game. :lol I understand how people hate him but if he was your teams announcer you'd be entertained most of the time.

Their play-by-play guy's voice is annoying kinda like Jack Edwards. Not only that, he goes nuts yelling "he SCORES!!!!" on every single Shark goal. And then there is Remenda, who is just such an obnoxious homer. Complains about just about every single bad break and penalty.

Every team's guys should favor the team they broadcast for a bit. But it definitely gets out of hand for a lot guys when it really fucks with their judgment.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

Huh. I never really saw Hahn as annoying, think he calls a good game, but then I've been listening to him for two decades. And of course I get as excited as he does when they score :lol

Drew is a bit of a homer but no worse than a lot of other guys out there.

He's not as bad as Darren Pang, but I always associate the two of them because they look like twins.

I will say I can't stand their sideline/studio guy Brodie Brazil though, but I like Bret Hedican, who sits between the benches and interjects during play by play more and more.

I love Joe B, Locker, and Alan May for the Caps. They do a great job.

While on the topic my least favorite Dave Mishkin of the TBL. It could be a goal in the 3rd period with the Lightning down 5-1 and you'd think it was triple OT in May. Plus his voice cracks terribly when screams.

They played his goal calls after every game if the ECF's last year. He is terrible.

Yeah, I feel lucky the Caps have (IMO) a really stellar announce team. Laughlin's a big time homer, but I feel like you get that everywhere, especially with the color guys. I also love what Koken brings to the team. Super knowledgeable.

Joe B = top 3 play by play guy in the whole NHL.

My least favorite is without a doubt Steigerwald...what a douche.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

Yeah with the local guys you are always gonna have some homerism. Like I said before they know the audience they are with so why hide it. I also think the longer you are around a team you probably end up rooting for them, it's just natural. The Wings TV guys is on the bandwagon that's for sure but he's not from anywhere around here.

If you're ever watching the games from home, follow Alan May's twitter during the game. It's great.

I will say, I feel like Joe Benanati did a pretty good job hiding his homerism when he used to call Caps games for Versus. Because when you watch him on CSN-MA, he's a bit of a homer for sure.

Alan May is one of the most knowledgeable hockey people I've seen on TV. I find myself agreeing with him all the time when I watch him on the postgame shows. Combining his knowledge with his clear passion for the Caps, I was one of the people that thought he shoulda gotten the head coaching job over Hunter. I love that guy. He's just great. I'll have to check out the twitter feed.

probably not, but his lead in points would be much greater.

No one is arguing against Malkin's ability to put up more points than Toews. Toews does literally everything else better though. He's a stronger skater, does the dirty work in the corners, plays on the top PK unit, is a Selke nominee and will be again this year, dominates face offs, and is the definition of a captain.

The overwhelming majority of people around the league seem to say that Toews is the clear #2 overall player (behind Crosby) right now. You're in the minority.

Malkin seems to be the clear cut #3, so I'm not trying to take anything away from the guy, he's a stud, but Crosby and Toews are a clear 1 and 2, IMO.

I don't know if anyone's seen Dean Lombardi's explanation for last night's clock issue, but as ridiculous as it sounds, it could be legitimate.

That is not an opinion -— that is science -— amazing device quite frankly.

There have been many times where I've looked at the clock on the TV in the last minute of a period and seen it appear to stop multiple times while counting down the tenths of seconds. Maybe that really is what was going on.

Benanati is pretty good. I don't mind him at all. To be honest, I'd take a HNIC crew over any of them, outside of Doc, Thorne, and Clement. Hell, even John Davidson if he wasn't running the Blues.
