Backstrom at #94 is ridiculous. But he's spot on with putting OMGCG in front of Ovi. Face it, Giroux is overall the better guy now.

I know our rookies have been good this year but Jagr/Briere and JVR are going to be much needed if we are going to make a good late season/playoff run.

I agree Jagr should sit, not that our opinion matters most, but bring him back when his legs are 100%...for the concussions, they just suck...as I am aware many teams are doing with that this season...

As long as Homer doesn't go out and sell the farm for a guy like Weber, we'll be set for years. I'm not expecting this team to make the Cup Final, but I'll be satisfied with a second round loss. The rookies are only going to get better with time and we LUCKED out with getting Coots 8th overall.

yeah couturier is a stud!
I think all the off season moves have been good, with the Bryzgalov move still to be decided

If I was a flyer fan, the bryzgalov deal would make me want to vomit daily. I can see him snapping out of whatever his problem as been this year, but how high is he going to take his level of play? And he's signed til he's 39 I believe?

While, as an outisder, I questioned him because of not showing up in game 7 against Detroit in 2010 and seeming not focused in 2011 in the playoffs, I sure saw him better than what he's done so far. I think he'll be fine. If Bob ends up being the #1 long term that would be scary. I think he'll be alright though.

but biggest of all, Schneider in net. What the hell is that? Is Luongo tired from the week off? Resting up to play Thursday? I don't get this team.

Schneider got the start in Boston earlier this year too.

I honestly think it has more to do with the fact that Schneider hasn't started since January 10.

Biron in for Hank tonight. Good thing there will be rangers fans at the rock tonight or the place would be empty...

I try. I'm just really excited hockey's back. I know it was only a week but when the team is playing as well as NYR is, I just wish they would play every night.

i think the only reason they signed him that long term was due to the new CBA to signed this summer...they anticipate having that "amnesty" clause like the NBA where you can cut a player without him counting against the cap...if that is part of the deal and he continues like he is, I think you will see him disappear from Philly

I think the idea of signing a goaltender to a ridiculously long contract around $6m per is just kind of crazy for any team, unless you are like Nashville where your entire game is centered around solid defense and keeping the puck out of the net.

For a team like Philly, they have had a lot of success the last few years without a big name G, and now that they have one nothing has changed in 2011-12 except that they are paying their G more money to deliver the same performance.

Looks like all 5 guys made it.

The Flyers have all the potential to repeat the run to the SC from two years ago, but it is very unlikely and I am ok with that. They have a lot of good things going for them which is huge with how the East is shaping up in terms of present and future. I think the Caps are on the down track and will be out of things unless they make a lot of signings. The only two teams I can see being any threat in the East the next few years of the Bruins and Penguins (you know ignoring any future realignment and Crosby being setback even further). I have all the confidence in the world that Bryz will get whatever is wrong worked out and that he will be a stud for this team.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

No but you actually have an open mind to the team's potential, which I can't say the same for much of this fickle fanbase and it sickens me. That's aimed at the Bryz and JvR haters and the posers who wanted to trade Hartnell in October and now love him.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

People in Philly hate on JVR? Wow. The guy was amazing just two years ago in the playoffs and he's still young. He's from my hometown, though he's younger than me and i never knew him. He actually has two younger brothers who are supposedly bigger and better too...

JRS1386 01-31-2012 07:07 PM

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

The thing about JVR that people hate is that he is being outshined (outshown?) by Giroux and he was selected in the same draft class as Kaner (2nd overall to Kane's 1st). He is a hell of a talent and huge in the playoffs.

s0628711 01-31-2012 07:25 PM

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

He grew up an NYR fan. :lol. Apparently be was devastated when Philly drafted him, but that nice contract extension would say otherwise.

Ruutu would be another nice piece. But honestly I feel like it would take way too much to get a guy who would be a third liner (2nd line only if Sharp played C).

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

Bryz was excellent tonight. He did his job. Too bad the rest of the team didn't do theirs. Weak shootout attempts, bad passing all night and a lot of blown scoring chances. At least the hardest piece to fix looked fixed tonight.
