Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
There's been a few that haven't gone. I've never had an issue with guys declining the visit at all. It's their choice.

Agree with this
SI_PeterKing Peter King RT@brendan500: Any thoughts on Tim Thomas skipping WH today? ... It's a free country. |

I just don't like it because I hate the Bruins and Tim Thomas.
Just kidding. Tim Thomas is a terrorist. |
Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
I agree with his right to do it, i disagree with his doing it. There is nothing political about the event. If the Bruins were throwing their support behind Obama 2012, then I would be ok with it, but I hate when any athlete turns down an invite to the White House.

Motherfucker! Ales Hemsky just took out Brent Burn's knee...Burns looks hurt bad, Hemsky's been tossed.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
Oh, the Bruins visit to the White House was covered on Sportscenter....
... Because of Tim Thomas. |

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
And there goes Burns. Hope he's not lost for the year. We can't score very well. We need all our d-men.
|
Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
Yeah, very out of character for Hemsky. Hope Burns is ok.
|
Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
yeah, i hope so too - didn't look good leaving the ice, but that only means so much i guess
i haven't seen the hit, flipped away while it happened and they haven't replayed it yet |

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
The only thing that I disagree with the whole Tim Thomas thing is that there was no penalty to not going to a TEAM EVENT. Seguin misses a breakfast with the team and is penalized. Thomas misses a celebration with the team that won the cup but he wont stand beside them because he doesn't agree with the man that wants to shake his hand. :rolleyes Way to show up for your team, buddy.
|
Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
Yes I'm sure Thomas did it to show up his team.
|
Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
And for the record it wasn't against Obama it was against the government as a whole. He wouldn't have gone regardless of who was in office.
|
Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
On one hand, I applaud Thomas for exercising his right to freedom of speech on a large level. He saw an opportunity to make a statement and he did.
On the other hand, while I'm sure he never truly intended to upstage his teammates, the fact is he did. Coverage of the Bruins actual trip tothe White House became a secondary story to Thomas not being there. His teammates are adults and probably won't make a fuss but it still sucks for them. |
Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
I just don't understand why his teammates would care. They went and they were recognized by the president, if they really hold this against Thomas there's bigger issues in the locker room than Thomas choosing not to visit the white house.
|
Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
Not many people can hate the government more than me, but I would still go to the White House.
|
Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
He also informed the team and management months ago that he wouldnt be going. So its not like this was some last second political stand by Thomas.

It just bugs me because I'd be there in a second regardless cause it's the White House and it's not a political thing. POTUS wasn't inviting him to a rally for reelection at the Fleet Center. And as one of only 3(?) US born players he wasn't there while a bunch of Canadians and European's were. But back to your regularly schedule program....17 home wins in a row. I hate to use the word statement game in January but it was the type of game you like to see when fighting for the division lead. It was a real grinder and those wins can feel good. |
Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
what a great wings game last night

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread
From one of the CBJ beat writers: If #Preds win in Chicago, and #CBJ lose in regulation to #Lightning, every Central Division club will have twice as many points as #CBJ.
