So according to reports, Babcock reached out to San Jose for this meeting this week. His "complaints" after game 7 about where is the next Datsyuk ring true in SJ too. If Detroit's window has closed, San Jose's has too. I don't see how that team would be better than here. |
Re: The NHL Thread
Dave Hakstol is the new coach of the Flyers....yup. Very interested to see what the deal was with Babs. Did they not want to even try? Did someone not like him (hextall or Snyder)? Did Babs want nothing to do with them? But there ya go.

Re: The NHL Thread
Dammit, Tim. I wanted to break the news!
Talk about outta left field. |

Per twitter, he's the first coach to go straight from NCAA to NHL in 28 years.

As it becomes more and more proven that NCAA programs and coaches can manufacture NHL players, more and more NCAA coaches will get NHL jobs. |
Re: The NHL Thread
CBJ will announce a captain for the first time since the Nash trade on Wednesday.
A lot of people think it will be Foligno, I think it could be Dubinsky or Hartnell though. |

Re: The NHL Thread
Were it not for last season, I'd be listing Ryan Murray as a candidate. I agree on the Foligno thing. I think they went a long way last year during the all-star game to set him up as a face of the franchise. Dubinsky's got the makings of an NHL captain as well.

Re: The NHL Thread
Awesome to hear Elliotte Friedman here in MI on the radio. His thinking about Babs is my thinking, that if winning now is the biggest thing, Detroit makes the most sense. He did say St Louis of course would make sense now but wasn't sure they'd give the money that Detroit could. He doesn't think Babcock, with wanting to win so badly, would want Toronto because they are probably 4-5 years away from just being good enough for the playoffs. Buffalo's window to winning is shorter than that but still 2-3 years of not winning? Can he be that patient? Depends on how good he thinks Eichel would be I guess. Eliotte did make a good point that he wonders if Babcock's message will get lost after another 4-5 years. Worked ok for the last 10 but is 15 too many. I do wonder about that.

I was watching the frozen four this year and had the sane exact thought. As for the hire, left field choice for sure. But I trust Hextall. Any kind of NHL hire would have been a retread though. Stevens, Hitchcock, Dineen. |
Re: The NHL Thread
Love the move. A nothing to lose move. Would have only wanted Babcock if it was a retread. Doesn't sound like they ever reached out to him. That was the impression I was getting from the press conference. Or they did. He said no. They said, "well OK",. and then went down the path of courting this guy.
Haven't looked at draft prospects. Hoping there's a guy the Flyers can draft named Hixstull, or something along those lines. |
Re: The NHL Thread
The least surprising news is McLellan signing with the Oilers. I wonder if that had something to do with Babs not talking to them. Maybe he knew his boy was a candidate and didn't want to take it from him.

Re: The NHL Thread
Still trying to wrap my head around the Flyers coaching choice. I am glad it wasn't someone with a connection to the Flyers

Re: The NHL Thread
Let's to Rangers! Hopefully we can get it done again tonight!

You get a penalty! You get a penalty! You get a penalty!

Re: The NHL Thread
Refs are calling sooooo much haha wow

Re: The NHL Thread
Is Johnson the only guy who scores on TB? Every time I've watched their games during the playoffs, he's scoring.
|
Re: The NHL Thread
This is going to be high scoring with all these penalties. Not liking this trend for Ny
|
Re: The NHL Thread
Weird to see all of these penalties...
|
Re: The NHL Thread
Don't see the Rangers winning a game with this many calls. Hope things settle down for the next two periods.
|
Re: The NHL Thread
Marty is hurting this team. Surprised he is still on PP.
