In need of some golf tips...

Anyone have any idea why I hit my irons straight 8 out of 10 times but still cannot seem to hit my driver straight? I have a wicked slice off the tee with my driver, but usually, more often then not, hit my irons perfectly straight.

Dont use your driver use a 3 iron instead.

That's obviously a solution, but I'd like to be able to hit my driver straight more consistently.

Driving range. Its really the only way to fix things. You can't fix stuff on the course.

I've been through that before. At one point I thought I had it fixed, but when I went to play a round a few days later I was slicing again. I know practice is the only way to fix things, but I'm wondering if anyone on here has any pointers.

Where do you place the ball in your stance? When using the driver off a tee?

A slice could be caused by a million things. Normally when that happens to me on the golf course were when I try to hit the drive hard, or try to boom one out there on the first tee without warm up. Your body core and hand position ( club head position ) would be out of sync. Because normally by either the hands were behind the core, an opened face contact, or an outside to inside swing path to produce a slicing spin.

Lessons with a golf pro could defintely help, this link is helpful too: http://ezinearticles.com/?Golf-Drivi...ight&id=861641 .

Remember, the faster you swing and try to kill it, the more errors you will have. Start slow and go from there.

Thanks, I'll check out that site.

I know it happens to a lot of people, I just get ridiculously frustrated when I'm hitting great iron shots and yet, can't hit a straight tee shot.

Don't worry, one day you'll get your driver figured out and hit it like a champ, only to watch your consistency with your irons go the way of the dinosaurs :lol I love golf

that's horrible advice. use a 3-wood, not a 3-iron.

Prob a little too handsy, and quick, losing all tempo... If I had to guess you probably lose control of the driver at the top and twist your body all over the place trying to reset it in the slot... my word of adivce... low and slow... take it back low to a point and slow... for a while I'd do it reeaaaally slow just so you're hitting it straight... by taking it slow, you're gonna notice the small things your body is doing that may, or may not, be right, and then kill off the bad stuff

make sure when you swing toward your target in a nice smooth motion. you got to make it like an art form.

Why? If he hits his irons perfectly why not go with what works on the course until he fixes the driver? Im will to bet he is having the same problem with his 3 wood. When my I am not hitting my driver well thats what I do. Works fine.

a driver is much easier to hit than a 3 iron, it's probably the least-forgiving club in his bag.

i guarantee that his mis-hit driver goes about the same distance as his 3 iron. if he were using a rescue club/hybrid rather than a 3 iron, then i'd agree. but the last thing i'd recommend to a mid to low level amateur is to use a 3 iron from the tee.

why does it matter if his driver being mis hit goes further than a 3 iron if it is being sliced into the woods? I would much rather hit a club knowing my ball is going to end up in the fairway.

again, it's much easier to miss-hit a 3 iron than a driver or a 3 wood.

Re: In need of some golf tips...

are you slicing left or right? I had a huge problem slicing left.....and all i did was open the club head on my driver....make sure the lines on the club-head are parallel to the ground....like, they form a straight line. i'm hitting a straight ball now and couldn't be happier.

also, like other people said...don't try to kill it...and maybe move the ball towards the middle of your stance more....i find it easier to hit off the tee with my driver if the ball is in the middle of my stance.

I'm not so sure I agree with that. I hit my 3 Iron a lot more consistent than my Driver or 3 wood.
