OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators issued the following statement regarding team captain Erik Karlsson and his wife, Melinda.

"The collective thoughts and prayers of the Ottawa Senators organization, the city of Ottawa and entire hockey community rest with Erik and Melinda Karlsson following the loss of their son.

We ask that you respect the family's wishes for privacy during the grieving process."

According to my bleacher report notification his wife was due sometime next month. Man is that awful...

Stuff like this makes me think how stupid it is when I get annoyed with my kid. People who have endured something like that would give anything to be annoyed by their kid.

Exactly. I snapped at my daughter this morning because she was being a PITA, and I’ve felt awful about it all day.

Reading stuff like that makes me feel like a real dick. Thoughts to the Karlsson family for sure

Matty, you guys look sharp after a tough first period. I will try and be as objective as I can because I do like the Avs. Obviously their first 2 lines are killer, Barrie is great on D and Varlamov is amazing in net 99% of the time. That said, if they make they playoffs they will have to clean up two big things I have seen that will be exploited, one sometimes they get stuck in their own zone for what must seem like forever to you resulting in some tired guys on defense, also I noticed they do not keep much watch on guys shooting from the blue line (a compliment to Varly but still) which can obviously bute you in the ass with a good shot, a tip or a rebound. They look damn good but those two things could use a little attention.

Every time the announcers said Athanasiou's nice I thought they were saying "Happy to see you"

The Hawks were eliminated from playoff contention.

By the Avs.

Who could play Vegas in the playoffs.

And Vegas is the higher seed.

What is this season?

Hawks were pretty much eliminated from playoff contention in mid February. I know they were mathematically eliminated tonight but for all intents and purposes their playoff hopes were cooked by mid February. Rebuilding year I guess, I think if DeBrincat scores another 6 or 7 goals by years end he should certainly be in the Calder Trophy (rookie of the year) discussion, dude can play - dump Jurco who is awful and free up cap space to give new contracts for DeBrincat and Schmaltz. Oh and if Crawford is out long term we are screwed as far as having a solid goalie.

Was Mrazek yelling at the coaching staff when he got pulled last night? He stopped at the bench and seemed to talking to them and then went to the dressing room.

So T.J. Oshie scored on his own bobble head night and then shook his head like a bobble head in celebration :lol

Didn’t see the game. But Lyon should have started in the first place. He has been the better goalie.

Other than the Glendenning SH goal, can't blame it on him. Thought it was weird he was pulled at only 3 goals. However if he was snapping at the staff that's stupid. Mrazek has his 5 wins now so they can play whoever they want as long as they make the playoffs. lol

Hey youse guys. I’m in Seattle for our family’s yearly jaunt out here.

For us Flyers fans: I’m going to Everett Silvertips vs Seattle Thunderbirds game 1 playoff game on Friday. Game is in Everett. Why is this important? Because the future of Flyers goaltending as we know it is Everett’s goalie. Carter Hart. Or something like that.

The Avs still have some work to do on D no question, and if they make the playoffs they probably won’t make it past the first round.

But man... I can’t help but just be overjoyed at how this season has gone. Going from 48 points to 88 points, with games left? Regardless of even making the playoffs (and they’ve put themselves in a good spot but have a tough schedule coming up), I’ll chalk this season up as a success and be proud of the Avs. It’s sustainable steps forward that they’ve taken rather than flash in the pan, and that’s what’s really encouraging.

As for the game, was disappointed in Keith’s actions at the end. I think he finally let his frustration at the season - the team’s struggles as well as his own - bubble over. No need to throw that hip check with 10 seconds left in a 5-1 game and then go back to his stick swinging ways at the end.

Jared Bednar would be winning the Jack Adams this year if not for Gallant and Vegas’s success.

What a season.

No doubt. Instantly become my second favorite team when they exist. I plan on going to first Flyers versus whatever they call themselves game out here in Seattle in 20/21.

Carter Hart, I do not think I have heard of him? Probably should trade him like that bum Bobrovsky before he infects our team with solid goaltending

Carter Hart is awesome. Fun person to talk to as well. Really hoping he's the goalie of the future and it pans out that way.

Sucks that Carter Hart can't hold Ilya Samsonov's jock strap.

I mean let's be honest, Flyers are never destined to have a franchise goalie

Every team has something to work on heading into the playoffs though. Last season Chicago took a dump offensively in the first round and got swept, Washington can never get past Pittsburgh, Sharks got mushed by the Oilers, etc, etc. That said anything can happen in the playoffs, heck it took the Penguins OT in a game seven to beat The Sens - who oddly enough have pulled a reverse Colorado going from a goal away from the SCF to - well, awful.

CO PK is amazing and their PP is heating up - if they can carry that into the playoffs along with Varly continuing to stop almost everything they could be a dangerous opponent. They are a point up on LA with a game in hand and 2 up on Anaheim. I am no Miss Cleo but if they keep up their solid play they probably get in though they have a damn tough schedule left.

I did not see the last minute of the game last night, truth be told I chucked my Kane jersey across the room after that empty netter and was changing into a long sleeve T shirt so by the time I glanced back at the TV the Hawks had a power play for the last 3 seconds and they were showing a replay of the scrum - I just flipped my TV off in frustration so I cannot comment on what Keith did because I did not see it.

Best of luck to you and the Avs!

Wait til you guys see this Crosby goal. Top ten in his career. Wow.

Thank you, it definitely has been fun to watch them. I guess what I’m trying to say is that making the playoffs is not how I measuring this season as successful for the Avs. It already has been as far as I’m concerned.

You can't handle more

It was a playful joke that I thought Flyers fans could relate too. Caps don't have Cups & Flyers have had bud luck retaining or developing a top tier goalie in the long term
