Re: The NHL Thread
Halak is single-handedly going to keep the Rangers out of the playoffs. I wouldn’t let him start for a beer league team anymore. Obviously the Rangers need to address their backup situation at this point.
Shesty 10-2-3 Halak 0-5-1 Yikes. |

That said, the Rangers are in big trouble. Their backup goaltending is costing them a lot, but that is not the only issue. Their "prospects" are looking awful again. Laf is completely lost and a bust. |

Rangers blew a 3-0 3rd period lead to lose 4-3 and not even get a point. I don’t even know what to say at this point other than the fact, and harsh reality, is that Rangers fans need to accept that this team sucks this year. I for one am probably checking out. I’m confident enough that they are not making the playoffs that I’d be willing to bet a fair amount of money that they will miss it this year. I believe they have already waited too long to make any meaningful changes that would fix this sinking ship this season. Gallant likely to be on the chop block now. |

I think the difference is the expectations coming into the season. Flyers were expected to be bad, maybe slightly better with a shot at a WC if things really went well. The NY Rangers were expected to be a cup contender, with my favorite hockey analyst (The Hockey Guy) even having them as his pick to win the east. I understand teams sometimes don't meet expectations, but what the Rangers have done this season is a massive implosion on those expectations. They are really horrible and it just hurts to watch. Personal response: Absolutely fatalistic of me. That said: Most on this forum are also aware of my unhealthy relationship with the Rangers. I have done some work on that this last year and since that last post a few days ago have reprioritized my thoughts again to put hockey and the Rangers back in the perspective that it really doesn't matter. This is just a game that doesn't really matter at all in the end. It has been a long battle for me to remember this is just entertainment that has no impact on life. I realized backreading I was falling into those bitter posts again the last few weeks. |

Gotcha. All good. You're a good dude. And I don't post that often, obviously. But I think you know I wasn't coming after you in a negative way. Again, I'll still stand by the point that yes according to expectations, they have failed so far. But. They are right there with 60 games to go. 60! If you said this with 40 games to go, I'd be on board a little more. Get through the new year and reassess. :) Like your personal response. Good on ya. |

I was able to watch last night's game with a little more grounding and not be so upset with it. Rough patch for the Rangers and not sure how they fix it. I do take some relief in knowing it isn't my problem to figure out though. Watching last night's game reminded me of skiing with one of my best friends last year who had never been skiing before. For 10 years she has been one of my closest friends and throughout our friendship I was the one that had to deal with her when she got upset or had a "meltdown" over something. However, she got married last year and when we were all skiing she got scared and went full melt about being rushed too quickly to go down a blue trail. I thought "ugh, here we go, how am I going to calm her down and fix this." Then I realized something great: she is married and this isn't my problem, it is his now! :lol I got back on the lift and enjoyed the rest of the day while he dealt with it. Such a relief! Point being, I am starting to realize the Rangers are not my problem to fix or stress about haha. |

Re: The NHL Thread
The NY Rangers have officially joined the Connor Bedard race. Never thought that would be a real thing this year, but I’m fully embracing the tank at this point.
God have mercy on Connor Bedard if the Rangers do magic their way into drafting him. He will become a bottom six bust in NY like everyone else they draft. By the way, we like posting odds and stats in this thread…what are the odds Gallant is still employed by Monday? |

Went to Stars-Wild game in Dallas. Took my sis (who is the big stars fan) for her birthday.
Dallas was down 5-1 heading into 3rd period only to lose 6-5 in shootouts. Helluva time nonetheless |

Re: The NHL Thread
Well, it was a helluva comeback for the Bruins to send it to OT with Vegas, but they should've put it away with the OT power play chance. Vegas has a great goaltender and I had a feeling Reily Smith would beat his old team. Ah, the streak officially ends at 14 but alas, they still haven't lost in regulation at home in 15 games. Welcome back, Bruce!

Rangers scoring 2 goals in 7 seconds is the highlight of the season so far! Some tough games ahead, but hopefully this team is turning a new leaf for the rest of the season. Kids are starting to show up. |

Two early goals for Ovechkin against Chicago and now he’s at 799!

its something like 77% of teams in a playoff spot at thanksgiving make the playoffs. i believe they were in at that point, as they currently are. unless edmonton figures out their goalie situation, i think seattle can very possibly be a top 3 team, and would need a bit of a collapse to not at least make the wild card. |

Re: The NHL Thread
My friends who is a Hawks fan came down to Durham this weekend to go to the Canes game Saturday with me (fun OT win), and then flew to Chicago for the Hawks game. He texted me all pissed off saying “F the Rangers and F your fans” after the first period. I get being upset about losing and having away team fans cheering at that, but he should have expected it after the Hawks Rangers game in NY a few weeks back. You don’t go into NY, beat them badly and then call out their captain the way the Hawks did. On top of that, their fans were vocal at MSG. As far as I’m concerned, the Hawks got what they deserved last night. My Buddy needs to hold that L and maybe not text his Rangers fan friend to complain about the Rangers fans :lol.
As for the NYR; what can I say? 7 in a row feels great and was needed for a fan base that was beyond worried. Two huge games this week against opponents that they are directly battling for position. |

Headed to Caps @ Rangers tomorrow with my old man for Christmas, our first NHL game together. Plenty of AHL/ECAC/NCAA games, but pretty pumped for the game tomorrow. Haven't been keeping up nearly at all the last few years but it seems tomorrow should be a fun game and I'm glad I get to see Ovi before he hangs it up.

Games against the Canes are getting harder for me now that I live in Durham. Definitely adopting them as a second/third team over the past few years so it is always a little tough to root against them. Felt like it was a very good game from both teams. NY showed no quit and the Canes played a really good road game that they could have easily won with some puck luck. Canes announcers complained about a lot of the calls. I find them to be a bit biased as announcers compared to other teams. That said, I didn't like the broken stick call at the end of the game at all. No need to call that with such little time left in a close game when I honestly think he had no clue is stick was broken at first. |
