Sid might not have a lot of goals but he's been all over the ice. There have been numerous times I've pointed to my wife during the game that I was shocked it was Sid on the defensive play. Last night when he broke up that two on one was a prime example. |

Re: The NHL Thread
Sort of hockey related... Thinking my first 5K will be this September. The Red Wings are having one that goes along the Detroit River near JLA and the finish line is center ice and you get some free crap and can get autographs of players who are there that day. If you pay the larger registration fee you get 2 tickets to a Red Wings preseason game. Yeah it's preseason but the cost difference between the regular fee and the larger one is a lot less than you'd pay for a ticket, plus you get a couple extra things. I thought finishing at center ice would be bad ass. Also get tours of the dressing room and stuff.

Lightning announced Todd Richards as a new assistant coach signing this morning. I'm a fan of the hire.
Over the last few days Stamkos has been saying how he wants to come back to Tampa so we'll see how things play out in the coming weeks. |

It's waiting between the games that is the worst - also, I wonder if I can hear the Toronto media's heads explode from here when Phil lifts the cup and gets the Conn.

Might as well ask in here. I'm flying down to Pittsburgh Thursday for the game with my sister but We can't afford tix. Should I watch in a bar or outside at that projection screen?

Yeah I may bring a few chairs down, and even if I have to go buy one when I get in its cheaper than a ticket :lol She's asking around work (she lives there) to try and find out where we could go but I kinda like the idea of celebrating with a mass group. I'm not a pens fan, but it'd be a cool experience. |

Find a bar in the southside would be my best recommendation |
Re: The NHL Thread
:thumbsup
Buford's Kitchen is the nicest place directly across the street from the arena. Other than can't go wrong with Carson Street. I'm sure it will be chaos if they win. |

South side will be a crazy party if they win it, and thats where everyone will go after the game. |
Re: The NHL Thread

if you want to experience the game in a big crowd and be a part of the potential celebration, then do the big screen...you'll just have to deal with possible bad seat/view and won't be as comfy as drink service and tons of TVs at a bar |

I'm really bummed I didn't pack my jersey with me when I moved. I can't wait for Thursday night. It's been such an exciting time. I'm not a fan of the city of Pittsburgh, but I imagine SS is going to be insane. I'd really like to see how the outdoor viewing party goes nuts if they win (the lot right across from the stadium). I forget what it's called.

Re: The NHL Thread
The Bucs are away that night, so the North Shore bars might be a fun alternative too. I remember having fun at McFadden's before DMB @ PNC Park.

Apparently Matt Joyce now lives back there too near the entrance where that park is. My friend and his fiancee see this super hot model walking their dog and theres two cars from FL parked there, a beamer and a Range Rover. Not exactly an area you would expect a MLB player to buy a house, even if it is just for a year. |

^^ also shows that they need something better than 7" tablets for the officials during reviews. its embarrassing. during the reviews of the the goal in the Chicago/St. Louis series, the one official literally asks "wait, where's the puck?" to the other official

As for the person that asked about open air viewing of the game. In my experience it is fun to do ONCE (assuming they look the other way on booze) if you are younger and want to be part of a huge crowd but after that you will probably not want to do another. It is like going to Times Square for NYE. |

Good read. Hopefully we can figure something out. Trading Bishop could be interesting, but we'd have to get good picks in return and not add too much money with any players we'd get. I have long term faith in Vasilevskiy and wouldn't mind seeing him get a full year if it meant having Stamkos. Having the ability to sign that 8th year could make some difference and so will the tax difference between the Canadian teams. Him and Tavaras would be nice as the top two centers for the Islanders, my dad would love that haha. Buffalo would have some nice looking forwards but they're not in the position to compete and he's expressed how he wants to win a cup and part of why he'd want to stay in Tampa. |
Re: The NHL Thread
The Isles one seemed the most far fetched to me. They would have two players for $10mil each and don't the depth built up that TBL or a team like Chicago (who has two very expensive players on it) has. The rest all made sense quite a bit. My thinking is Tampa, Toronto and Detroit as the top 3, in no particular order.

Of all the fantastic Player's Tribune articles out there, this one by Kerry Fraser stands out as one of the best. Of course, I'm a little biased.

Re: The NHL Thread
I don't think I would. How often are you going to get that chance? It would be tempting don't get me wrong but the Pens haven't been back here in 7 years, and all three of their Cups they never had a potential clinching game at home.

but for me, it's very possible that it's a once in a lifetime opportunity so i wouldn't sell and i agree, Matty. the at-home experience is SOO good now with HD/4K tvs, super slow-mo, multiple angles, the comfort of your couch and regular priced beer :lol but this is different. this is the conclusion of the greatest tournament in the world. this is the most sacred trophy in all of sports. this is possibly the first championship to be won within the city limits of Pittsburgh since 1960. this is basically my wet dream |

yea for me, since baseball is my first love i wouldn't sell a Pirates World Series ticket either. same goes for the Cup. but if i had a Super Bowl ticket and the Steelers were playing in it, but i could sell it for $6000+, fuck yea i'm selling...most likely a terrible seat in a huge stadium...traffic, tourist, expensive merch and food....Super Bowl isn't worth it for me. i'll watch at home and drink beers at will |

By the way, Matty, that PT article is fantastic. Really enjoyed that

Re: The NHL Thread
I have a friend who sold a Super Bowl 49 ticket to a Seahawks fan for 10 grand.
My friend used the money to travel and buy a ticket to Super Bowl 50. He's a Broncos fan. So I'd say it worked out well. |
