A steep price by the Hawks. I was like I don't know if I'd do that. But then I remembered that some guys will have yo be gone to free up cap space won't they? Gotta go for it while you can I guess.

Friedman said last night a playoff team in the East was making a push for Yandle. Bruins can't have the space, Caps don't need, NYR doesn't have the space, Isles have no need so that only leaves a few teams. TBL, Detroit or maybe the Pens? Habs are an outside possibility but don't see as much of a need there. Come on Ken Holland.

Islanders have played 18 games in last 33 days. Man, that seems like a lot.

Apparently, we won't be making any moves because everyone is asking for 1 of our 4 top untouchable studs, all of whom should be either top 6 f or top 4 d.

Hawks clearly wanting Kane's season to not be over yet.

And yes, they'll have to clear some cap space still. Bickell is the most obvious first choice to go.

Glencross to Caps. Nice pickup that addresses a need.

Re: The NHL Thread

Return on Glencross is a 2nd and a 3rd. I'm honestly not overly thrilled about it. He's fine I guess but he's not top line material, plus he's traditionally a left winger yes? Meh, whatever. I guess adding him can't hurt but it still doesn't fix the top line RW issue

Honestly won't surprise me if they flip Glencross for something better. Just really not understanding why they added another bottom 9 LWer. We've got a bunch of those

Oh yeah, forgot about the NTC. Well, whatever I guess. Still just not really understanding what need he really fills. We're in desperate need of a top line RWer. Glencross ain't that.

Depth. Winning the Cup is all about depth. Reliable veteran that can do it all. Two way player, pretty universally loved by all his teammates and fans, etc.

Getting him without sacrificing anything on the current roster is a nice move if you're trying to win it all.

Yeah, that's a fair point. I mean I don't hate the pick up don't get me wrong. He'll definitely improve a shaky second line. Will allow Troy Brouwer to move into a bottom 6 role where he should be.

Lockman, heard anything more about Sharp? I've been hearing it sounds like he's gonna stay in CHI. Also heard DET might be in on him. Know anything I don't?

Wings can't afford him past this season. A lot of RFAs this summer, including Nyquist. Plus for Hawks to move him they have to give him 48 hours to submit a list. They never asked and we're 25 hours from the deadline. Not going anywhere.

I know people are saying he's being shopped, but I think the only way Bowman would move Sharpie would be if something blew him away. I would be surprised if he's being actively shopped, and tend to believe that Bowman is merely listening to what people are offering.

If Sharp isn't here in 48 hours, I would be completely and utterly SHOCKED. I don't see him moving. The Hawks can unload salary in a lot of other ways (Bickell, Shaw) without getting rid of someone that was talented enough to play on Team Canada last year and was an All Star MVP.

Yup, very good point.

It's possible Bowman was just testing the waters to see what Sharp would bring back in a trade, but I didn't think he'd be a piece they'd move until MAYBE this offseason...but even then, I think he's staying put.

He was never really a fit for Washington anyway. He likes to do kind of what Ovie likes to do offensively. He's a right handed shot that likes to sit at the left circle and shoot from that side. He has a heavy one timer from the point and the left circle.

He'd be no good on a line with the great 8.

Obviously not gospel but I've seen a few Oilers insiders say Eberle isn't going anywhere. Personally, he's the last player I'd want traded. He's been their most consistent all-around player the past few years.

Yeah, no thanks. I've seen some stuff saying Eberle isn't going anywhere and I've seen other stuff saying the Oil are entertaining offers from the Caps, Habs and Bruins. That's the problem with the Twitter age, information overload. If I'm Edmonton I don't trade him either, although I think the Caps could build a pretty enticing package. They've got a real good goalie prospect I'm sure the Oilers could use.

Anyway, as for stuff actually happening on the ice, Caps finally got back to looking like themselves tonight. I guess a game against the Leafs will do that :lol

I think I've said it before, but I am very happy and was very lucky to see the Wings win when they did. From 98-04 they traded away a lot of picks but had no cap to work with, so could add through free agency during that time and let the late picks (Dats and Hank and so on) to develop. That mentality carried through after the lost season too. Now here we are almost 20 years after the first Cup and they are still there with none of those players and more young guys coming up. The Rangers could be in a lot of trouble in a few years because the cap will hinder them.

Pissed I have to listen/watch Sportsnet on NHL.com. So weird, we get TSN on the NHL Network last night but get Sportsnet today.

About today, with Tampa getting better now on D, I think the Wings push to get a D man now to help out. It'll be interesting.

Dreger and Bob mentioned it last night. I agree with what some guys on TSN said though, the right situation, he'd be ok. He's not a first pairing guy, he's a 2nd pairing guy now. Huge salary retention has to be the other way. Like 2mil off the cap hit to make me even think about it. People keep throwing out Weiss and Kindl. I don't trade Weiss now, I do it in the offseason. You want him there for depth. But even if you do that deal, Kindl is up in 2 years and Weiss in 3. While the salary matches up for the next 2-3 years, Mr Elisha Cuthbert has 6 left. No way I do that.

Looking forward to watching the Wing collapse under the weight of their age in the post season. Overachieved this season big time.

I'm all in on the Rangers if the Hawks can't win it.

:thumbsup officially my favorite non-Rangers fan poster on ants!

I love that we are going for it! Yes it could blow up on us, but we have a good team now! Why wait!

People have been saying that since 2010.

K, that's not random at all. Rangers average age is higher than the Wings but...ok.

It is early, just felt like I needed to respond to your post on the last page rooting for it to blow up in NYR face :lol.

Nothing will make me root against a team more than their fans rooting against my team for no reason :grimey

Shit they were saying that in 1999. Wings could lose in round one (currently expect them to) but it won't be because of their age, it'll be because Tampa is dangerous and TBL is older. Wings leading goal scorers are 25 and 24 and their goalie is 30.

Lol the Rangers are going to choke. They don't have a 1st rounder until 2018.

If history has taught us anything, it's that the Detroit Red Wings will find some crazy 7th round pick in their system to call up and save their god damn season if all hope looks lost. They'll always be competitive.

Eh, just more because the media makes it such a hype about it. nothing against the team. "OMG best team ever!"...and then they lose. As a Detroit sports fan I remember hearing how bad the Lakers were gonna smoke the Pistons in 04 and the Pistons should have swept them.

Also it might have been missed, Petry to the Habs. Not sure how he'll work out. He's a big ? to me because Oilers suck. Maybe he'll do very well with a good team.

Not having a draft pick won't make them choke this year. These moves make them closer and that is all any team can do. If it doesn't work they have other players they can move in the next few years for picks. There is always a way.

Wataching TSN last night they showed the guys with the longest trade deadline streaks, where they've made a move on deadline day. Sather...12 years in a row. lol I can't fault NYR for going for it. Your windows are so small, that they have to do it. You'll deal with the no picks later, if you have to. If you win, it's worth it for these guys.

Unless Crosby gets traded today, that is the craziest deal of the day.

Petry is...alright. Nothing special but he's alright. It was a fair, boring trade.
