Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread
If the NHL was really committed to helping hockey work in some of the smaller or less traditional hockey markets they'd put those teams in a stadium game. :rolleyes

Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread
Well, it was a great experience and we stayed warmer than expected but not getting the win put a damper on things
- Ice seemed real bad. Isles seemed to be skating in mud. The outdoor games seem "faster" on TV. Pucks were bouncing all over. I learned quick fancy wasn't gonna work. Rangers maybe had a slight advantage in that they played Sunday but only slight. No excuses. We had chances and Nabby played well. PP just couldn't get one. Rangers responding quickly to tie game was biggest moment of game. - got down there around 4 and pre-gamed by bar hopping around the Stadium. Went in around 6 or so. Grabbed some more warm food and then found "our seats" in the bleachers. Well the opening in the back of the bleachers had the wind whipping in and it was the coldest part of the park (except upper deck, of course, I guess). So went spent a total of 5 minutes at our seats. We knew we'd be standing all game so we moved to stand behind seats behind where Isles shot each period for better sight lines and to be warmer. Had those little hotties warm packs jammed in everywhere. I was layered just right. More cold this morning than all of last night except for my hands. -by going around the stadium all over, we interacted with a bunch of fans from each team and I only yelled at one Ranger fan so I was proud of myself. And he had an Avery jersey on so it was probably justified. -hot chocolates were 12 bucks and beers were 10. souvenir cup or not, that's a little ridiculous. Merchandise was crazy expensive. Concessions were packed all night as they were right behind where we were. Assuming Yankees got part of that gate, I think they paid for Tanaka with these 2 NHL games. All in all, I'm glad I could I went to the first outdoor game. When they started these, I said I would always go if they had one at Yankee Stadium with the Islanders. Decisions will need to be made soon. I assume AMac will traded next month, though I think they will keep Vanek in hopes of still signing him. I can't imagine they traded for him without an intention of going hard at resigning him with a market offer. |

the players were saying last night the ice was actually better than on Sunday, but a lot of bouncing pucks for sure, especially in the beginning.

Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread

jackets vs the hawks in soldier, the pens in heinz, the wings in the big house or the rangers in yankee stadium would have been a success and would have really helped out a team like CBJ.

Indications point to 4 outdoor games next year. I'm good with that number, and here is what I'd like to see them do on an annual basis; 1 X Winter Classic (the grand daddy) 1 X Stadium Series 1 X Heritage Classic (reserved for a Canadian team to host) 1 X All-Star Game (this allows for players to get another chance at experiancing the outdoor game, and in a much more relaxed setting) |
Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread
50,000 new yorkers trapped outside for 3 hours in 5 degree weather.
i would have charged $25 for hot chocolate |
Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread
well we already know the all-star game isn't going to be outside next year but i agree that's a good idea.

Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread
a game in winnipeg in the middle of winter is stupid and could possibly put fans in danger
NHL bringing the dumb again |
Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread
those crazy canadians can handle the cold. they look at us and think we're like atlanta.
edit: they interviewed the ottawa play-by-play guy the other night between periods during the jackets game and he was like "yeah i heard a lot of people around town today complaining about the cold, it hasn't been over 0 in Ottowa in 2 months". :lol |

Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread
I think it would sell out very easily and with that many fans, it would be a huge event for the NHL

Edit: Looks like less, but the NHL didn't set the world record (we don't think) this year, so Beaver Stadium could give them another crack at it. |
Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread
As happy as I am for the Rangers, I fear I am already losing my interest in outdoor games. NHL is over doing it. Might as well just play all games out door and just have a 16 game season.
