This is all kinds of wrong. Campbell is a decent player? the guy is a stud. One of the fastest D-Men in the league and there aren't many guys in this league who are better at getting the play going the other way than him. I could probably count the # on one hand. He's pretty poor in his own end? This is stupid. Just look at how lost Hammer is in his own zone and how burned he gets playing with Leddy, who truly is bad in his own zone. Brian Campbell eats up rebounds or board battles, and instead of just getting the puck out of the zone, he gets the puck into the other teams zone and starts up some offense. the ONLY reason he got traded is the contract, and I really really miss him. this team would be great with him right now.

I only have one knock on Brian Campbell, and that's his tendency to get intimidated when the going gets physical. He actually does pretty well in his own end, but get a stick on him, get rough with him along the boards, push him around in front of the net... and from what I've seen, he will many times back off.

HOWEVER (before you get too riled up Bonz :D), he's got some killer assets. For one, he's not only one of the best skating d-men in the league, he's one of the best OVERALL. Watching him glide around the ice - he makes it seem effortless. I don't compare too many people to Bobby Orr (because no one compares), but in terms of skating ability, Campbell reminds me a lot of #4. In addition, Campbell has great vision and understands the importance of making a good outlet pass. Although I have seen him get intimidated and rush a breakout pass, I have also seen him make some doozies. He's fantastic in the neutral zone and has an ability to stay patient and keep his head on a swivel.

All in all, he's the type of guy you want on your team. Pair him with a more physical, stay-at-home type guy, and you've got a great top pairing.

Also, he's got a great salad.

I wouldn't mind trying it, but I wish Sharp would just do it. Kane said the other day his wrist still bothers him.

And this is precisely why you don't want him playing center right now. Taking faceoffs + hurt wrist = not a good combo

if OMGCG wasn't triple teamed so much he would probably be a top 200 player

Kudos to you for the combination of the classic Ants hockey thread inside jokes with the brand new one that is forming before our eyes.

Excuse me, but I think some of the wonderful people ranked Giroux as not in the Top 250. Get it right, people.

I need to refresh this because it was such a cyclone of hilarity but who said Giroux was a not a top 200 (or 250) player in the NHL?

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

I suppose I just don't see the greatness of Brian Campbell. To me, he's one of the softest d-men in the league and I don't think he would do anything to help the awful play inside our own zone. To me, Montador/SOD are just as good inside their own blue line and Nick Leddy is nearly as good a skater (though admittedly not the passer that Campbell is). The Hawks don't need another offensive d-man. They need the players to come together and play team defense as a unit. In their own end, things usually unravel well before there's any chance for any outlet pass.

Just my opinion, though.

so the timing of the slump, and the fact that other teams were closer in points to us this time as opposed to two years ago is the reason to fire Q now? we lost 7 out of 9, and in the middle of it lost Campbell for what we thought was until the 2nd round, which would have cost us the whole season. The losses in Philly, to Washington, to Anaheim, and the back-to-back losses to Columbus were worse than most of the losses on this current losing streak. The fact that they are all piled together is what is making it feel so bad. All of the games I named from 2010 just now were worse losses than what we have had now because we STILL hadn't figured out our goaltending, and Campbell and Johnsson were both injured. I thought that we were done and would be knocked out in the first round, and I didn't even trust our goaltending going into the playoffs. The thing now is that it is February and the trade deadline hasn't even happened. Let's wait until they break out of the slump before we jump off a cliff and fire everyone.

The problem is....we've been saying this for the past 2 weeks. What if they don't break out of the slump before it gets to 12 games? 13 games? What if they beat the Jackets but then lose another 3 or 4? By then you are out of the playoffs. The fact is this team can't afford for this streak to go on any longer because they are only 3 pts up on 9th. So, is it ok to fire the coach after it gets to 12 or 13 games and you are now chasing the last playoff spot? Or just let the coach piss away the season, then it's ok to fire him? I think at a certain point, enough is enough.

I don't even remember who it was, but I believe it was during last season. Hilarity ensued, and really the title of OMGCG was born from that initial conversation.

I'll never forget the hilarity. It was so funny reading that. Now he's a top 5 player in less than a year.

And OMGCG is my favorite thing in this forum haha.

Peverley out at least the next 5 games after taking a knee on knee hit from Gill last night. With all these injuries that are happening to the Bruins right now it really makes ne think about how much went right for them to win the cup last year.

Bucci's latest vlogumn:

I was surprised at his higher picks, but Bucci has already proven to have one of the better hockey minds in the major media outlets, so I'll take it for what it's worth.

When is the deadline this year? I would love for the Flyers to make a splash like Gill or Kubina but it depends on how they do this week. Everyone is jumping off the ship after this past weekend.

I think just about everyone is "very interested". Probably a lot of competition for him at this point.

The Bruins are one of the 5 teams Nash put on his list. I really hope they don't deal for him. I want no part of that contract and they'll have to give up a ton to get him on top of that.
