I don't really need to further explain why that's a bad look.

I think it should've been a 2 minute unsportsmanlike penalty for sure

But to act like it's some sin against hockey and all things good is so crazy

His nose exploded

Super dirty play

Re: The NHL Thread (where the Presidents Trophy matters!)

It was vicious enough for a match penalty.

Although I do agree that I've seen much worse.

I actually saw Maatta in person this morning and he looked fine.

Ron Hainsey getting a tap in goal after Michael Vicking two Predators should be a much bigger story than anything else.

So happy for that guy. Huge bounce back game for him. That's a highlight he'll be showing his grandkids

sucks that Maata got a boo boo on his nose, but he should know by now that once you get your stick up high, you're gonna get one back.

Subban had him in side control a la the UFC and was holding his stick. He should've let go. Crosby shouldn't have been that rough on his head. Ref saw the whole thing. Was called perfectly fair.

Well, in fairness Crosby probably gets an additional two minutes on that one is he wasn't smart enough to put his body between subban's head and the ref. :lol

See attached pic immediately preceding that 'fight' and I cannot fault Crosby too much, I would be pretty pissed too.

He owned nashville last night, physically and skillfully. Guy was on a mission and it was fun to watch. Could care less about the water bottle thing, it probably did slip, he is not that stupid. If they want to give a minor for that than start throwing out bench minors for every damn catfish that lands on the ice.

I think Arvidsson was the only pred to be on the winning side of any fights, the rest of them got pummeled. Nice to see the Pens play with an edge ( and see the Pens big guns have a field day putting picks in net) against a team that has been roughing them up for 4 straight games and put them on notice that the reigning champs aren't taking their shit anymore. If Ryan Ellis is injured (no updates so far) preds are in trouble.

That crosscheck on Maata was about as dirty and dangerous as it gets.

Was also great to see Hainsey get a SCF goal and damn cool to see Guentzel tie the rookie point record for a playoff year, nice job kid.

Helluva exciting game to watch last night. Yeah the fighting was a bit often but that has been buildiing for a few games, I almost expected the Pens to go out with a chip on their shoulder but in terms of on ice play that was the most dominating game (in every sense) that ANY team has played this entire playoffs.

Yeah, it was. He lost his balance and the cross check got him in the face. It wasn't like Sissons Babe Ruth swung at his nose, dude.

lol I think you're missing the point

Cross checks are illegal. He cross checked with full force towards Maata's head and neck region. That should be an auto suspensions, period.

Maata's nose burst into a million pieces from an illegal play, but it was his fault...

Nice to hear flyers fans haven't changed

Pretty much agree with all of this except the water bottle.

I agree it's not a big deal whatsoever but a 2 minute penalty was warranted. It happened while play was happening (unlike the catfish nonsense) so I could see a bench minor being called.

Other than that you're spot on IMO

The difference is that Crosby is a player. Catfish guy was not.

My wife just saw Sid on the road. She honked and waved. He smiled and waved back. He did not throw a water bottle at her.

Or maybe he tried but she couldn't tell due to his terrible throwing motion

I can confirm that is not the case.

Re: The NHL Thread (where the Presidents Trophy matters!)

I remember when my co-worker met Sid, Mario and a few of the Pens at a bar on Long Island after a game his rookie year. They were having a few drinks and she was a huge Devils fan so knew exactly who they were.

She walked over to that area of the bar and started to talk to them. Apparently Sid started to hit on her a bit (she would have been about 22 at the time). She finally turned to him and said "I know who you are and I know you are not 21 yet :lol"

That must have been funny to be there for.

there's no way sid knew how to talk to girls until he was 27.

Do you think Sid told his friends back home he had an American girlfriend?

Hell, if he had gone to the Caps or Rags I would probably be joining you with the hate. :lol My overall point is, if you take off the hate goggles for a minute, you'd be witnessing some stellar hockey. Not quite Lemieux level, but close. Between most of last season, the Gary Bettman Olympics and this season, he's been on another plane.

Haha 'a different personality'. If that's what your want to call it

Apropos of this thread, I just noticed Malkin had a Gordie Howe hat trick last night. :lok

I kind of wish it was Subban bouncing Crosby's head on the ice. At least we wouldn't have annoying ass Penns fans speaking irrationally
