I really think we'll see JvR on the Hawks this year. There was a lot of chatter last year between the Hawks and Leafs at the deadline about him, but the Hawks ended up going with the 1 year deal of Ladd. I can see the Leafs moving the (surprisingly) 27 year old JvR for someone like Ville Pokka and picks.

JvR would be a nice fit and add some punch to that third line or even maybe the first if they drop Panik to the third with say Kruger and Mashinter then use Desjardins to center the 4th line with maybe Tootoo and whomever clicks with them on the felt wing.

In actual hockey news, Raffi Torres cut from his tryout with the Hurricanes. It's amazing how young the NHL is getting... over the last couple seasons, guys who really aren't THAT old and who are tenured NHL players all of a sudden can't get a job.

yea very true...just look at the Pens

before Mike Sullivan took over the Pens were the oldest team in the League

by the time the playoffs rolled around, we had 7 different rookies contribute and 4 actually play in the Finals

A few others have been cut too. Young guys are cheaper. I mean it took Kyle Quincey till the end of the summer to get signed and he had a good year last year.

That's what I'm saying. You see all these guys that were locks on NHL teams as early as last season who now can't crack a roster after managing to get just a tryout. Crazy.

And you're right, it's a combination of youth (the NHL is getting a lot faster) and managing the cap.
