If you haven't heard the Chris Sale...meltdown over wearing a throwback jersey for the White Sox, hockey news posted the top 5 jersey NHL players should have revolted against. First, Bertuzzi in an Isles jersey is weird to me. When you think of his career you think Vancouver. Also, never saw the LA Kings one and that is bad.

Yep Milbury traded Bertuzzi and McCabe to Vancouver for Trevor Linden. Barf.

Bertuzzi wasn't developing fast enough and I think Milbury grew impatient with Bert but power forwards sometimes take time to develop. And I really liked McCabe, who was a young captain for us.

Thanks mad mike.

I'm with Mike Keenan, that Blues jersey shoulda gone straight in the trash

Wings get DeKeyser for 6 years at $5mil per. A little high right now but he's still getting better and will be worth it over the course of the deal. Franzen and Vitale will be put on LTIR and probably see a forward traded and they'll be under the cap.

Re: The NHL Thread

the deal isn't bad as a stand alone, but when you look at how much money they have locked up in older players--the Wings are headed to salary cap hell.

It keeps things interesting every offseason...TRUST ME.

I'm not too worried. Zetteberg's is the worst because he can't retire. I think Howard is taken by Vegas (frees up 5.2mil), Green's off the books in 2 years (6mil) and I bet Kronwall retires then too (4.75mil).

You think Jimmy Howard is taken by Vegas before MAF?

MAF cannot be exposed with his NMC. I guess he can end up there if he's traded which closes that door for Jimmy but other teams will have more assets to give the Pens than Vegas will. Vancouver and Calgary could also have needs in goal next year too.

Re: The NHL Thread

It'll be interesting. The only deal I'm really unhappy with is the Ericsson one. With still 4 years lefts at 4.25mil. I know why he did it at the time because he thought he knew what he had and that was safer than what he'd have to get on the open market but E has taken a step back the last couple years and to have 4 more years of that is ouch. Zetteberg, for the fans that are pissed about it, they can shove it up their asses. Holland signed the reigning playoff mvp and a point per game player for a cap hit of 6mil per when in reality should have been around 8-8.5. Can't blame Holland for signing him to a contract that was legal at the time and mad he didn't know the new CBA would punish him in 4 years. I mean come on. Yes it hurts now but they got a lot of good years out of Hank for a cap hit of 6mil. Howie, he signed that deal and then had the Wings one win away from the Western Finals in 2013 and he was fantastic in both of those series that year and was an allstar before he got hurt in 14-15 and then struggled to get back after that and Mrazek stole it. If he doesn't get hurt a year and half ago, I wonder where he's at. These are things you cannot account for. I know fans want to while they sit posting on blogs but that's not reality.

Agreed, that was a hideous idea for a team that has pretty classic jersey's!

Tavares quoted yesterday as saying he wants to be here "for the long haul". It's not a surprise but comforting, nonetheless.

Meh, I don't read into those type of statements too much. Feel so forced/coached...basically just a PR statement that all team "leaders" say. Kevin Durant said it plenty about OKC and look what happened there.

yea exactly

how many times do you hear guys say "nah, not here for the long haul. i'll be gone pretty soon"

it's just athlete rhetoric....not saying Tavares won't be a life-long Islander, but the statement itself means nothing

Re: The NHL Thread

Agree with the above statements. Sure it might make you feel better but it means nothing. Better than him being ambiguous as for an example Fedorov was through the 02-03 season. Kept having an excuse for not signing. So better than that, and he might want to stay but things change. Start hearing what TO might offer and people from there telling you to take a look and all that....

Espn has an article (insider of course so I cannot read it) wondering when Conner McDavid will overtake Crosby as the best player in the world. I have two issues with the premise, one being that the title of worlds best player is entirely subjective and secondly can we see how McDavid does in a full season before we place him in the same category as say Crosby, Kane or Benn. No disrespect to McDavid intended at all (I think he will be a star for a long time) but it is a tad early in his career to compare him with guys who have more hardware than the HOF!

Offseason ESPN drivel.

Pretty much everyone is doing this in the offseason. Anything to post an article. It IS ok to not post anything when NOTHING is going on. Hockey News had one about the Wings and what they'd have to do if Mrazek got $5mil. First, maybe don't post that article until Mrazek had his deal cause you really have no idea how much salary they'd have to dump without Mrazek's number. Big difference between 3.5mil and 5mil in terms what would have to be moved. Second, he then went through player by player who could be moved. He says Ott and Miller would be tough to move because of their ages...no shit but also they just signed both of them to one year deals you really think they would then turn around and try to trade them? Then he says moving Joe Vitale would be tough because of his health issues. Well yes....and that's why he'll be put on LTIR just like anyone who is around here would know but the fact he mentions his health but not LTIR is amazing. And people give bloggers shit and this guy writes for a major hockye website? My god. Must have been being paid by word count.

Whoa. Cynical today.;) It’s perfectly reasonable to believe JT has every intention of staying with NYI. He could very well be in the New York state of mind (c wut I did there) that he’s not going anywhere.

Does that mean he might make a different decision years down the road? Of course not. Teams change, players’ situations change, the league changes. But that’s not to say that in the here and now he doesn’t believe that he wants to be an Islander for life.

Because of this ^ it's probably best to, like you guys said, not put TOO much stock into statements like these. But I don't think every similar statement needs to be reduced to or viewed simply as PR rhetoric. It could very well be an honest statement about a players state of mind at that time. And that's fine.

Well, that's the problem. They DO have to keep posting articles to drive site traffic and keep advertisers.

But yeah I agree, some of this stuff I'm seeing is absolutely ridiculous. THN is one of the worst offenders, hands down.
