I hope the whole team sits for the anthem. Not for any political reasons, which I don't want to touch with a ten-foot pole in this thread, but just to mess with Torts.

I thought the same thing when I read this. :lol

I'm hoping for at least one classic Torts melt during the World Cup.

Highly likely.

I won't offer my personal feelings on the kneeling during anthem thing, as politics suck a lot, but I will offer my distaste for John Tortorella. Fuck him.

Go USA.

Guy in my FB feed I went to HS with who used to bash Torts every chance he had when he was the NYR coach posted an image with his comments regarding the anthem sitting and said "Gotta love Torts".

No, no you dont, Torts is a giant d-bag, and so are you, you freaking hypocrite.

Sweden's defense is straight magic. Fucking hell.

No one is going to score on them. Straight shutout the entire tournament.

Matty, I was watching Duncan Keith highlights today, and came across this gem -

Dude is unreal. Just watching him skate and receive that pass made me get all warm inside.

When John Klingberg DOESN'T make your team, you know you're pretty stacked.

Thanks for sharing, I remember this one know. You're right - even better than the goal itself is the way he was able to corral the pass on his backhand without losing stride or momentum. I mean, at first you think "bad pass". But when you watch again, you realize the pass was originally RIGHT on, but Dunc started skating up ice a fraction of a second before the puck got to him, putting it behind him. Most guys are going to wait until they've safely got the puck before moving with it. But, of course, he's confident enough to do start moving before, knowing he can still control the puck and do something with it.

The fact he can generate that much power and speed while doing those half-side/backwards crossovers AND corral that pass on his backhand AND THEN fire a shot from the blue line.

Like what? I would have tripped over myself 10 times in that short play.

It's possible but I kind of doubt it. The Americans are very good. However, I do think team North America is no slouch and will make a lot of noise.

Quite frankly, every team is stacked. I truthfully don't see any teams where I'm like, yeah, they have no chance against the Canadians or the Swedes. That said, it's probably either of those team's tournament to lose. Finland also generally shows well at tournaments like this. I'm super pumped to watch some hockey tonight and tomorrow night. Fuck yes.

Hossa went to the hospital for x-rays after the game. Also, JT Miller is being reported with an injury as well from a blocked shot.

Yeah, that was amazing - though I do not believe Quick was expecting him to shoot right there. The 'sad' thing is I have seen him do stuff like that so often over the years that you forget the individual plays and kind of take it for granted that he will pull off highlight reel type plays - ie that goal in game 6 of the 2015 finals in game 6 where he shot from the blue line, collected his own rebound and burned Bishop.

Hoping this is nothing serious - Chicago has a shut down D, solid goaltending but once you get past the Toews and Anisimov lines the talent goes down notably - not sure how losing Hossa for any period of time will effect the Toews line - hell I am not even sure who will be on the RW of that line.

Phil is surrounded by beautiful people whose sole job is to feed him hot dogs. He doesn't even use his hands, just opens his mouth.

And I use the term "job" loosely... they don't get paid. They just do it because it's The Phil.
