Go Lightning and Canes (yeah like that'll happen). I'd say tonight can't be worse than Tuesday but maybe they can only get 12 shots on Rask tonight. Yesterday said Datsyuk, Sheehan and Cole were all playing today but that morning skate would probably decide those for sure. So...here's hoping.

they're still +7 on Edmonton (-7 depending on how you look at it) and have the ROW tie break. they're fine for top 2, but knowing them if they finish 2nd to last they will pick 3rd :lol

Edmonton's not the problem, Arizona is.

Us Sabres fans have fully come to terms with the fact that there's no way in hell a team who finished 28th or better WON'T win the lottery if we do, God forbid, finish in 29th.

Mark Howe was watching Leafs/Sabres last night, speaking of that game. Please don't tell me they are still looking at Dion...please.

Getting #2 wouldn't be the worst thing but fall out of that? Now, they'll be good kids #3 and later but to be this bad and miss out of the top 2?

disagree. finishing last just means you can't fall farther than #2. finishing 2nd means you can't fall further than #3, which is REALLY a drop off in this draft

edmonton could be the problem if the sabres go 1-4-0 and edmonton goes 0-4-0. Oilers have 4 more. Sabres have 5. That'd put the sabres in 3rd by 1 pt

Funny how for them games in hand is a bad thing.

Re: The NHL Thread

The Sabres should just say they're wanting to give their players "experience" and dress them at different positions. Lindback at forward, Gionta in goal, etc...

Tanking 101.

Thanks for the help.

Big game tonight and Saturday vs teams we should and need to beat. Need to finish strong in the worst way.

My brother was just standing next to Mark Messier at Westchester airport. He said he is a pretty big dude in person. My brother is 6'3 and they were pretty much shoulder to shoulder. I told my brother to ask him if he remembers Kasparaitus.

Looks like no Datsyuk, Sheehan should go, and nothing on Cole.

yeah, I was gonna say... lol. If the Sabres take 4 of their final 5 I won't even know what to think anymore... I'm guessing we win the Carolina game at home and that's it.

Well no Datsyuk, Cole or Jurco so you've got some help. Hope for a good game though.

I want to point out the stupidity of fans. A Wings beat writer tweeted that Sheehan is in, so I was gonna comment and say good news or whatever, but I read someone elses comment. They said "can he play G?" yeah cause Mrazek didn't single-handedly get the team a point on Tuesday....sigh.

Much different lines seems to be working alright for the Caps so far.

Putting Ward at RW on the top line and moving Backstrom to the 2nd line with Brouwer and MoJo. See how Kuznetsov progresses centering the top line with Ovechkin and veteran Ward.

I'm genuinely curious what percentage of Brohan posts are just his random Caps thoughts. It has to be 95%.

Dustin Byfuglien suspended four games. A little over $100,000 in forfeited salary.

Pretty big deal when they're in the middle of a playoff race. If the Jets miss the playoffs by 1 or 2 points, Evander Kane is going to be laughing so hard.

Should've just given a 5 game sentence, IMO. 5 games left...

As much common sense as that makes, they have to keep consistent.

"How many games are left in the season?" isn't one of the factors into suspension length any other time in the season, so it shouldn't be here either.

I think 4 is fair.

Yeah, I think this is pretty fair. And like you're saying, four games is pretty significant when you're looking at one of the more important players on a team clawing to make the playoffs.

Yeah, I get it. 4 is definitely fair, no arguments on that end. Just makes sense to do 5. Meh.

Wings have more shots in the first 4 than in the first 20 on Tuesday.

I want to update this. Through 11 they now have 9 shots and only had 17 through 65 the other night. That's what effort will get you.

I do extremely similar work to what those guys have to deal with, just in the sense that my day-to-day is dealing with massive union agreements with pretty powerful unions...so things like this are right up my alley.

And I'm sure I don't have to tell you this, but when dealing with unions, everything has to be by the book, and a lot of times common sense ends up going out the window for the sake of consistency. If the NHLPA got whiff of them saying "well 5 makes sense since there is 5 games left", all hell would break lose...at least internally. We might not hear about it, but I guarantee you the PA would be all up in the NHL's ass.

Yeah. I guess maybe I'd just rather have seen more than 4. Idk. I'm always in front I the net when I play so seeing shit like that infuriates me. Totally uncalled for, very dangerous.... He wasn't even near the play when it happened. Total bitch move.

Oh, agreed. Whenever I play wing I always park my ass in front of the net too. Mostly because I never know where else to go when I'm a wing :lol

And yeah, even as a defenseman, I try to clear the crease...get the garbage out from in front of the net, ya know? But holy fuck, Buff, not like that.

In his defense, he's a BIG dude and in his 10 year career has never been suspended...so no past history and no injury resulting from the play, 4 games when you're at the tail end of a TIGHT playoff race (again, which equals over $100k) is a pretty strong suspension.
