Wow, what a back read. Must have been a wild game last night haha.

Florida 2 pts behind Boston now....the Cats are stalking quietly up on them.

The refs who didn't penalize Ovechkin last night need to get a serious reprimand. Blind bats. How is a penalty not even called on that. Joke. And I hate Letang.

Pitt was down 1 with 2:07 left and an PP. They also had 6-4 starting at 1:30. Even if Pitt gets a 2 min slashing at 19:00 they don't score anyway. Holtby was the difference in the game

not really

Fleury was just as good as Holtby

Special teams were the difference

And no Ranger hangover for the Isles last night. It wasn't sexy but played a solid road game and took care of business. Islanders are now 13-1 when their opponents played the night before. Young legs getting it done.

yeah that was impressive. The type of loss they had against the Rangers can sting teams for a few days, so impressed with the win by them.

Wings have one of the toughest stretches coming up. @ Hawks, Stars, Ducks, Kings, Sharks and Preds.

I think it's time to seriously consider instituting a coach's challenge into the NHL. I know it's been talked about a little bit for a while, but I really think it's time. I mean, that was a very blatant slashing penalty. And I know linesmen can't call penalties, but we've seen on more than one occasion this year instances where the linesman interjects their perspective and a penalty call has been cancelled because of it. I think in the interest of getting it right, a coach's challenge needs to become a thing.

Re: The NHL Thread

even if a coach's challenge happens i doubt they'll be able to use it to challenge a penalty, replay in the other sports doesn't allow that.

barbogast 02-18-2015 01:37 PM

Re: The NHL Thread

What exactly could it be used for? I mean, they already go to pretty extensive lengths to get the goal calls right

Rebecca De Mornay 02-18-2015 01:38 PM

Re: The NHL Thread

well, exactly.

i guess they could use it for offsides or something that is actually black and white in terms of the rule.

a lot of penalties are judgement calls, hell you could probably call an elbowing penalty or a hold any time two guys battle for a puck in the corner. it would be a circus if they started reviewing stuff like that.

barbogast 02-18-2015 01:42 PM

Re: The NHL Thread

Ok, yeah. Fair point. Penalties are judgement calls. And while there are instances where it's clear a call was incorrect or missed, if you open up that can of worms it could get messy.

I dunno, just a thought. Maybe a challenge wouldn't work that well in hockey

Maybe instead of a coach's challenge they could give the linesman more latitude to either make a call or say, hey orange arm bands, I think you guys got that one wrong. 4 pairs of eyes are better than 2, and linesman don't have to spend THAT much time watching the lines

Rebecca De Mornay 02-18-2015 01:46 PM

Re: The NHL Thread

agree, the solution lies somewhere in giving the linesman more authority.

Rebecca De Mornay 02-18-2015 01:48 PM

Re: The NHL Thread

the other issue with a challenge is it pretty much has to result in the loss of a time out if you don't win.

otherwise coaches will be using challenges on icing calls and what not just to get their team a breather.

it works well in football since teams both get 3 time outs per half so losing one is impactful but not the end of the world, it's a little bit of a bigger deal in hockey.

Another good point. You're making a lot of sense today bud

TMoore4075 02-18-2015 01:49 PM

Re: The NHL Thread

Yeah you couldn't use it for penalties. I mean sometimes when the player throws his head back, when the stick didn't make contact, you'd love to see it, but then you have to use it for every penalty and that won't happen.

I don't have anything hockey wise to be happy about, but I am happy to share that my wife and I are expecting a baby boy in July :)

Congrats. Let it be the 18th, my birthday :) so is Yakupov figuring it out finally. Picked him up today in my season long league. We'll see.

Thanks, we're pretty excited! (due on the 12th)

No, I don't think Yak will ever figure it out, not with the Oilers anyway. He has been a mistake since the beginning. Each coach thinks they could 'fix' him, but they just need to trade him.

I think him for Gardiner (Tor) straight up would be a good one for both teams.

Glad I poked in here and saw this. I can actually cheer for the Wings over Chicago tonight and not feel bad about it anymore. That's always nice.

Well there would have been a good coach's challenge. Hawks were offsides.
