Broken Things
Havent seen a thread started yet about this gem, but this is undoubtedly the best song this band has put out in years in my mind...blown away, the album itself is really incredible but this song is the stand out track for me

Re: Broken Things
I have been all over this website today saying the exact same thing. BT's rip in the middle of the song is the most DMB sounding moment since 1998. Absolutely haunting. I seriously had tears welling up in my eyes at work this afternoon when I first heard it.

Re: Broken Things
It's a fresh sound.

Re: Broken Things
Favorite song on the album, for now.

Re: Broken Things
Rashawns one note at the end is AWESOMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Re: Broken Things
Boyd's solo at 2:10 not only gave me chills, but is the moment I realized that this album was going to be amazing. I've said this already, but Boyd in Broken Things sounds no different than Boyd going crazy during a Blue Water solo from 1992-93.

Re: Broken Things
This is the best song on the album. Definitely the most conducive to the "casual fans" and "hardcore fans" Boyd's solo definitely creeps into the aforementioned Blue Water territory. And Dave's vocal structure on the chorus while he sings "oh my love, my heart is set on you, set on you" will definitely appeal to the casual audience. Way to go Steve/DMB.

Frankly, this whole album is going to let Boyd shine on stage and I cannot wait. |
Re: Broken Things
I keep trying to catergorize this song and say its a (Billies, WWYS, Beachball, etc) type song, but I can't find a spot to put it. At the same time it is quinessential DMB. It does have a bit of an 04 feel and a much older feel too. I'm going in circles now.
Anyway, I love it more with every listen. |
Re: Broken Things
probably my favorite song, so far at least.
boyd does sound like blue water there a little bit, just dont go expecting it to become that. the solo will probably stay fairly short, like funny and gator pie length, not the 5 minute blue water special. |

Re: Broken Things
Interesting. On first listen, kinda thought it was a bore. Will need to listen again and again, as obviously I missed something.

Re: Broken Things
Half way through this song had had tears of joy..so beautiful...classic DMB and just may be my favorite on the album!
|
Re: Broken Things
I heard the first 15 seconds and I knew this was going to be a great record
|
Re: Broken Things
This is currently my favorite, and as I said in another thread:
Broken Things is superior to Rooftop, and in the conversation with Snow Outside and Drunken Soldier. Not to be dramatic, but Broken Things is in the conversation for best album opener. At this point, anyway, I feel it ... Slightly behind BOWA, but with each listen, it gets closer. Superior to SMTS. About the same as PNP>Rapunzel Superior to I Did It Superior to Busted Stuff Superior to Dreamgirl Superior to Monkey |
Re: Broken Things
The verse guitar riff is a fricking beast..much be a bitch to play/sing at the same time
|
Re: Broken Things
Broken Things and BOWA will constantly be in a fight in my mind for best opener on an album. Can't wait to hear it live.
