Re: New Album Coming Soon?
Y’all forgetting too - the internet is a thing and it wouldn’t be shocking for Dave to send the different members demos and sketches of tunes for them to listen to and get ideas of parts together on before the roll up to the studio. Less than a week physically in studio for horns may sound short but most of us, myself included, have no clue how much pre-work may go into it.

Re: New Album Coming Soon?
Thank you to everyone with real info for sharing.
So curious if the 10-14 songs will be all new or some old. If some old what will they pick for an album??? Pumped this thread is a nice break from the day now. |
Re: New Album Coming Soon?
Idk about all new or not. A guess? All new. If I were to place a bet though? A couple ones we have heard (not including the two new ones this year)

Re: New Album Coming Soon?
I kinda like it being mostly more new songs. Don’t get me wrong I’d love a crazy easy, sugar and Bismarck studio recording.... but I have multiple live versions of those tunes that I don’t think anything in the studio would match. We all know this band could make 1 or 2 incredible albums with all their unreleased stuff, but
give me some new songs! COCO is my fav song off come tomorrow and it was awesome to hear it for the first time the day the record was released. |

Re: New Album Coming Soon?
For some reason I'm surprised that there are (I'll assume) 12 tracks on this album. Maybe this is just my conditioning as a DMB fan, but I feel like for there to be a full length album ready to go it needs to take at least 5 years, not a few months. I don't know if KTK would be there- it's looking likely that the time for that song is passing, but I'm pumped about the idea of a song or two we already know- especially if recorded during these sessions. I still bet we'll have to wait until the new year to hear anything official about it though.

Tons of music has been dropped w/o warning from all sorts of artists since the pandemic. A fair share that weren't started and/or recorded until the quarantining started. There's no reason DMB can't do this...not that they will...

Re: New Album Coming Soon?
So, everyone is saying they have to protect the #1 streak, which I get. My question though is, couldn't they find a pretty empty/easy week and just do 2-3 weeks of hype and release and hit #1? I feel like the overall stream of new music has slowed down some and so if they found a light week they could just sneak in, hit #1 and move on. Am I wrong here? Are there that many large acts releasing new stuff on a weekly basis right now?

Do EP's count towards the album streak? If not, and they are worried about preserving the streak, release an EP of new material every 3-6 months and then release a full length later down the road. They could also sneak it in on a quiet week with like 6 different buying options (CD, Digital, 4 different colored vinyls)....you know some people are collecting them all. I think Jason Isbell ultimately released his last album in 7 different shades of vinyl color (Black, Fire, creamsicle, Blue, Green, Clear, Coke Bottle). |

CT just comes off as so lazy for me. Grab a couple old songs, write a few new ones in one or two takes without the rest of the band, and then grab a couple semi new songs that have been played live (Sam Cop, VITR), and boom. It's honestly shocking it took so long for that album to come out after AFTW. Feels like an album that could have been written in two days (it may have been lol). |
Re: New Album Coming Soon?

There is NO WAY this album will be worse than CT. My guess from what we've heard is it's produced by Rob Evans and only Rob Evans, all in a single session with new songs. That alone will make it worlds better than CT. |

Don’t get me wrong, I love Kill the King. In 06, that was second behind Idea of You on my list of favorites. But the lyrics he has written are so trite and don’t feel sincere to me. There isn’t a good lyrical flow. Badass riff with a great chorus and bridge. And Carter... |

It is exciting to know new music is in the pipeline, but I think it's important that we all remember that last time Dave and Rob Evans were alone in a room together making music, the end result was "That Girl is You."

I also think John Alagia is involved in this project in some capacity. Rockbridge Guitars posted an Instagram video back in September with Dave and John sitting side by side, so they were in CVille together while these sessions were happening.

Re: New Album Coming Soon?
Also, we loved Come Tomorrow as an album. Obviously the general appreciation thereof is about liking OR not liking the songs. We continue to enjoy album which is not something we ever did with Everyday and Stand Up. Pretty much none of ED and SU works for us live either...we just don't like the tunes.
While I understand what folks are saying, I'm not concerned with the variety of producers and the different sounds or their styles. There was no secret of this going into the CT sessions, so it's not only unsurprising, it should have 100% been expected. Further, an album is just a collection of songs. If they ever dip into the archives and release those songs that they've fully recorded without releasing official studio versions, it will also have a different sound and feel from track to track. CT is a potential indicator that should they release older material, they may finish it up with the folks that they used starting the process. So it's as likely as not that we'll eventually hear another album like CT. It's not unlike listening to greatest hits or any other sort of compilation albums...different sounds from different eras. As has been stated in myriad threads, many here really only briefly visit the studio albums from time to time while primarily focusing their DMB listening on live albums/versions of songs. Many have stated, and I agree, that some songs sound better live than in the studio and that there are some near definitive "best versions" of those live performances. But as someone that has spent 60% or more of their DMB/D&F listening time with the studio albums, I have zero issue with the differences in sound or flow from track to track on CT. As such, I'd welcome a "part 2" with the reservation being the right to be disappointed if I don't like the tunes or the versions they officially release. That said, I love the idea of a record of completely new tunes written during the quarantine. And it's not about the quarantine, but instead about them creating new music during some downtime and hopefully releasing it sooner than later. I'm still looking forward to hearing whatever it is they release and hoping it warrants repeat listenings with songs that I want to hear live. AND that one of those songs replaces Bayou at any show I attend in the future. |
Re: New Album Coming Soon?
Dave definitely stated several times that the recording in C-Ville was done. He's back in Seattle, I think all indications are the Fonz is back in CA, Jeff's in TN, etc.
There's definitely not been anything to stop from working remotely for years and years now, although I completely understand the preference to play together with other people live. |

Alagia has been involved with lots of their work dating all the way back to Remember Two Things. His involvement would not surprise me one bit, I mean that in a good way. Also, yeah it was definitely Alagia who came up with the guitar riff for She. Really solid riff.

I hope that if there are political themes and overtones in the lyrics that they are artistic and poetic instead of just straight up direct talking points.
Songs like Raven would be awesome. Songs like Come Tomorrow would be tragic. |

Re: New Album Coming Soon?
Dream Girl was ruined by the greedy men line. Dive In had such potential, but the lyrics went with safe, don't think about it emotional blackmail imagery. Come Tomorrow was inevitable. I always feel like he's trying to recapture the 'it' factor of Don't Drink The Water, but you just can't manufacture inspirado.

Aren’t there also unheard songs called “Callalilly” (for Cavallo-Alagia-Lillywhite) and “ChaCha” or something? Those look stupid typed out but I’m pretty sure they’re actual songs.
Also, I REALLY hope they work on “Ask” (love that little jam/lyrical idea), Early Home, and last but not least, “Drive Me Away”. That song is better than anything on Come Tomorrow, IMO. |

Drive Me Away made my jaw drop the first time I heard it. How in gods name do you let that song die?

As to ADSR, we've never seen it live and only heard it a few times, I always initially dismiss it seeing the title...because I the title seems like it was on SU and I just don't like that album. But it's Dave dipping into a more jazz-like harmonic and melodic place. Very cool tune that I need to spend more time with. Which song are you referring to hearing live regularly? ADSR or CT? |

Thing about CT is everyone that doesn't like it has to point out that he sings "leeeeeeeeeads the way" ... you can do that to just about every song ever written, most songs hold notes. It isn't great lyrically but it moves well enough with where the notes are placed and it's in a good range for him. ADSR was cool the one time I saw it at SPAC '08, would work well on an album On a different note I won't be excited about #27 being on an album |

Re: New Album Coming Soon?
A Dream So Real is an awesome song
|
Re: New Album Coming Soon?
I love the small horn part between the "how we ended up here" parts. Tim's solo also fits nicely (see, for example, 6/21/08 version). This song could be great for a DMB 3.0 album because Buddy can easily handle Dave's piano parts and Boyd's parts were not central to the song.

I would willingly pay $100 for a collection of 20+ new AND newly released studio versions of those songs we know (and possibly heard) that were never officially released.
I would do it right now w/ any info about what the new tunes sound like or which of the older songs were being released. I would also reserve the right to bitch about it if I didn't love at least half of the music, but I'd still do it. |

I wonder what the implication of not having a tour is going to be. You gotta think that not playing these songs for a tour and hashing things out or building on an idea over a summer or even a shortened tour will have some sort of effect.
