Can anyone talk to me about this "improv intro" on Grey Street 6/18/17 [as indicated by the almanac]...

http://dmbalmanac.com/TourShowSet.as...154&where=2017

Lyrical? Instrumental? What does it meaaaann......?!

Instrumental. They did the same thing at SPAC, it was a little picking riff. I kind of liked it because it made we wonder what they were going to play instead of it being obvious when the main riff comes right in.

Thank you!!! Looking forward to hearing that.

Dave has been playing the same thing before Grey Street for years, it's just finger picking the same chords used in the verse of Grey Street

.. and LLD, LIOG, Billies, Too Much, Spaceman, SDL, JTR

Opening with a song and noodling in the key to build suspense is one thing. Playing a song mid set with a different intro is something else.

I know what you're saying but it was different than the usual Dave plucking melodically, it was more like a part he and Tim worked out and played together as an intro.

That's also what threw me off as to what song it was because they were playing together but it wasn't anything I recognized

According to the below article, Dave sings harmony on the song "Sweetheart" found here: https://www.facebook.com/sarahwhitem...pp/6452028673/

Sugar Will from the warehouse disc (I think Warehouse 10 Vol. 1) is probably Rashawn's worst solo with this band, as far as released material goes. I don't listen to a lot of tapes so there might be something out there that's worse, but this solo is pretty brutal to listen to.

I ordered live trax 42 from the warehouse store but also bought a dave and Tim tour shirt and another older shirt. I put express delivery. Will everything come in the day live trax 42 is released or will the other shirts come sooner?

Re: Random dmb thoughts that don't need its own thread

Everything will ship together. Aka your shirts will ship out when 42 is released

Unexpectedly came across this little gem tonight. https://youtu.be/kk09ZqsnYo4 Very watchable, and the audio is superb. This has made for a great little Saturday night.

Random thought as they were finishing Spoon, which made me think about how next year is the.....can't believe I'm saying this...20th anniversary of Before These Crowded Streets. Insane. Anyway, it would be cool if in 2018 they did something called The Big 3 Tour, in which they only play songs from the Big 3. And they also ditch Rashawn and Tim and return to the core group sound. Won't happen, but that would be radical.

Re: Random dmb thoughts that don't need its own thread

Given that we probably will not see 10.02.07 released now (maybe we'll see it released a decade later), management should give us that #34 and #41 on a Warehouse CD.

a friend of mine from work is originally from cville. we've talked quite a bit and of course dmb came up in conversation. she had lunch with dave at her school when she was in like 3rd grade and went to school with dave's nephew. she actually knows jane. i had to explain the backstory to STJL. when i first mentioned being a dave fan her response was "ughh you people are the woooorrssst" :lol

Damn every no and then I'll turn on something from 3.0 and think Jeff is Roi for second

In what ever number live trax blossom 2013 is during the bartender
flute solo for a spit second I thought it was Roi.

Bowa always makes me smile, no matter the mood I'm in, especially when roi goes off at the end.

Why does everyone love Sugar Will so much? Other than being a rare song, I don't get what the appeal is. Old or new version, I don't see what's so exciting about it.

I love the funky bass intros, the whole riff in general. https://youtu.be/fDfkew4Bkvk (10/1/2004) Carters hand-eye coordination when hes drumming with the shaker is crazy. And a great jam to end it out

That outro bass groove is money could listen to Roi solo over Stefan and Carter on that forever.

I think I'm in the small minority that isn't huge on LT2. Santana is sick, but the band didn't seem to be fully clicking that show, to me at least.

Carter can do no wrong, I'm with you there. Cool jam outro just feel like it could build a little more dynamically.

I guess this will be one of those that eludes me, maybe in time I will appreciate it more. I've only recently gotten into Halloween, and even that I prefer D&T. Thanks for the feedback!

Re: Random dmb thoughts that don't need its own thread

I certainly prefer the early versions of Sugar Will. The original versions blow the 2016's out of the water, IMO. That said I still enjoyed grooving to it when I got it last year.

Re: Random dmb thoughts that don't need its own thread

I haven't been on the boards in forever. Honestly I haven't listened to much DMB over the past few years, but I always find my way back.

I decided to listen to all the studio albums backwards chronologically and immediately decided that overall top to bottom, production, song quality, performance... Big Whiskey is a much better album than Away from the World.

Just wondering what the fan base thinks... I'm out of touch
