Sorry but this team will be lucky to make it out of Round 1 this year. Special teams, defense, goaltending = complete jokes. PP has no clue how to operate, and with the personnel they have that is fucking pathetic. PK stands around and hopes not to get scored on.

I remember that game. That was probably worse but holy fuck this team is awful tonight. Completely mailed it in after Oil tied it at 2.

Like I said at the beginning of the season....this team has serious issues and they are showing themselves. No defensive discipline. Goalies are terrible. We dominated this game early and gave it away. Dominated for much of the game against Van and lost. Team forgot how to win apparently.

100%. Brunette is too old and too slow. Carcillo speaks for himself. Montador should have never gotten this long of a contract. Lepisto doesn't even exist. O'Donnell should be in a retirement home.

If we can't trade Scott for anything, he should be in Rockford. Same with Bickell. And Lepisto. We have too much talent down there to waste spots on them.

Or keep Scott up here as a scratch so kids aren't sitting around as healthy scratches and we can scratch Scott and Frolik every night.

But it's time to do something.

I have no confidence in Bowman to make a splash at the deadline and quite frankly I don't think it matters. Too many holes and too many other contenders vying for valuable pieces. Goaltending is a joke right now. The only defensemen Stan can pick up won't really shore anything up. Secondary scoring is still a major problem and Brendman Morrison was a 2nd line center 8 years ago.

They have the players. O'Donnell is better than Cullimore/Boynton, but he needs days off. Lepisto and Scott are terrible, and when he's in the lineup Q doesn't play him. Montador is a fine 3rd pair option. Q doesn't hardly play him tonight. Nonsense.

Carcillo was a good pick-up, played very well for us. Brunette has been mediocre, played well lately with Hayes and Bolland. Mayers has been good. Signing Frolik was terrible.

Nobody remembers that Bowman signed Stalberg to a 2 year deal worth less than $900k a year. And he's been explosive this season. A great move.

Yeah, there have been some misses. He's also done some good things. Like giving us the cap space to even have a chance at making a move.

This is on the players to perform and give the consistent defensive effort, and the coaches for running fucking pathetic PP and PK systems.

Look, if Crawford was the Crawford of last year, we'd probably have 70 points by now. Unfortunately, he's been terribly inconsistent and the defense hasn't helped him out. But the Hawks had tonight's game in full control...and Crawford gave up 2 bad goals quickly and the entire game turned around. That can't happen.

Hawk PK has got to be one of the worst systems I have ever seen. 100% weak and passive, stand around and apply no pressure what so ever to the points. Yet when they have the PP the other teams attack them and they can't set anything up. Q and this staff even watch game film?

The problem with Montador is his contract. Yeah, he's a decent/good 3rd pair blue liner, but he's getting paid to be better than that. It's a bad contract.

O'Donnell is too old. We should have another defenseman if we have an old ass that "needs nights off".

Carcillo was NOT a good pick up. At all. He skated a couple solid games at the beginning of the season, but then his scouting report came true. He has no control. NONE. He took a shit load of dumb penalties, and stopped caring about the puck and didn't "open up" that space for the skill guys anymore. He sucks.

Brunette is too slow and doesn't deserve $2 million. He was signed hoping he would return to his 20-goal form. He isn't doing that. Bust.

I get it. You wanted to hate Carcillo. He played well. Yes he threw a couple of bad hits. It's to be expected. But he played surprisingly well on the 2nd line and was a good 4th liner.

Montador is overpaid, for sure. Still don't understnad why Q isn't using him more tonight. He essentially used 2 d-pairings for the 2nd and 3rd periods and threw in Monty once every so often. Nick Leddy is too young for that many minutes. 4-8 pairing is terrible and shows you why they had 4-7 and 2-8 for long stretches last year. Those two need to play with experience sometimes to protect them. Obviously this team needs a 2nd-pairing d-man. But it also needs the forwards to work harder in their own zone. The d-zone coverage is just so bad. Running around in circles, two players chasing the guy with the puck into the corner, etc.....

And if Crawford was playing better none of this would be as glaring a problem. But it is, and he is clearly not as good as we all thought.

And again, you didn't address his moves that have worked. Signing Stalberg to a 2 year deal, which everyone hated at the time. Dumping the Campbell contract so we aren't cap-fucked...

Dumping the Campbell contract was fine. Signing Frolik for 3 years at 2.33 per based on a penalty shot goal against Van was retarded.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

Great, the Stalberg signing panned out well for 3/4ths of a season. A+ Stan!

The Campbell trade was fine. Not great, but fine. Yeah, we dumped a contract, but Campbell was a LOT more important to this team than anyone gave him credit for. Look at how he's doing in Florida. Look at how great he made Hammer look. Without him, this blue line is a lot weaker than we thought it was. 4 is not that good. Leddy still needs time. Campbell is an All-Star defenseman that we traded away for AHL talent. Two bad contracts exchanging? Yeah, but at least Florida got the talent. Ask Rocky how he likes paying Olesz and Huet ~$9 this year for nothing.

Back to Stalberg. Great, he won that one (so far), but then he lost Frolik. $2.33 + the $875K for Stalberg basically evens itself out. Frolik is a $2.33 scratch on a team thats skating Bickell (who can't do anything right), and Andrew Shaw right now. A kid no one knew 7 months ago.

You will never convince me Carcillo was worth a damn. At all. He was fine for a couple games, but that's it. And that's the optimistic view of it. He didn't play well with a couple bad hits. He was a joke. He didn't do much positive after his first couple games when everyone was blowing him and what a great signing he was. He turned into a goon real fast. He had 82 PIM in 28 games....82! That's the equivilant of a little over 240 if he played all 82 games (which is impossible). He was suspended multiple times...just a disgrace to the sweater. You could have found a bunch of guys that can provide on the 4th line without being a goon.

Yeah, obviously if Crawford were having a stellar year, we'd be complaining less, but he isn't.

Bowman struck out. It was a weak free agent class, yeah, and at least he managed a bunch of 1 year deals, I guess.

He also signed John Scott to a 1-way 2 year deal. So, that was a smart one. Now we have to keep him on the NHL squad because they're scared to send him down through waivers "IN CASE SOMEONE ELSE CLAIMS HIM".

Is Sami Lepisto still alive?

Good call with Hjalmarsson as well. Him and Montador are absolutely worth $6 million a year until the start of the 2014 season...when we'll only be paying a 35 year old Steve Montador...

Sorry just had to say that cause I remember a lot of Wings fans during the 2010 playoffs and last regular season complaining about him. He was in his first full season in 2010 and his team wasn't that good and just worn out after 07, 08, 09 and then that season.

The Hawks do seem to have a lot of holes but yeah there are too many contenders wanting some help. That's gonna drive the price up too. A guy like Ruutu is perfect for a lot of teams and I think he's gonna cost a lot.
