so make up your mind, is there momentum or not momentum?

Bron was definitely at a dinner party recently where there was a well dressed man waxing poetic about his recent trip to Tibet.

the man went on and on about a monk he met, who described momentum in chance situations to be a myth.

Bron now thinks all forms of momentum are myths.
but I love Led Zeppelin, so no disrespect Marty.

Bron is that guy at a July 4th BBQ that talks about what a great year the wine is that he brought and has his polo tucked into his khakis.

Says the guy who believes in momentum.

If you don't think emotion and morale plays into team performance, then I don't even know what to say to that.

Momentum not factoring into sports is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard.

bron is the black guy with glasses who works for skynet and has built ice hockey playing robots who have no emotions, thus enforcing this idea of no momentum in hockey theory.

This analogy is beyond retarded. Additionally, it's irrelevant to the discussion, as per your original argument that momentum doesn't affect sports. Coin flipping is not a sport.

Certainly on an individual level you can feel as if you are "in the zone" or "out of sorts" occasionally. But that is not momentum. That is just the random variation around the mean of one person's or one team's ability level.

How is that not momentum? And if a team collectively feels that in one game, then how can you say that can't change the outcome of a game, a series or a race for a playoff spot?

The Bartman incident is a perfect example of the momentum dramatically shifting within the stretch of just one inning. Anxiously awaiting a response on how momentum had no outcome on that game/series.

But nobody has been able to prove that the actual results are impacted by how one "feels." Plus, the fact that this phenomena of "momentum" can change so suddenly kind of disproves it. Look at the Wild. They were slumping terribly (no momentum) until they weren't. It swings back and forth wildly. The word for that is luck / random variation / etc. Not "momentum." Momentum is a theory or narrative invented by the media / fans / players / coaches to attempt to explain something that is probably just natural variation around the team's talent.

This is just incorrect. Plenty of 7-run innings happen every year in major league baseball without some incredible event (like Bartman) precipitating it.

The Bartman incident wasn't "bad luck" just a confluence of occurrences and bad choices (leaving the pitcher in, the awful error by Alex Gonzalez). The idea that the Bartman incident caused Alex Gonzalez to misplay a ball or for Dusty Baker to leave in his pitcher to long is ludicrous.

Just think it's ludicrous that you guys all think you're so smart that you can predict sports based on these theoretical "turning points" in momentum. The fact is the word is used to describe shit that happened after the fact in order to provide narrative to what happened because players, media, fans do not like to admit sometimes shit is just random, luck, etc.

One would assume he means he would prefer the Sabres to lose to the Blackhawks tonight in their scheduled NHL contest. A loss would cause the team to solidify it's place as the league's worst even more. Finishing with the fewest standing points increases their odds at winning the draft lottery, which would give them the opportunity to select one of the two "can't miss" prospects in this summer's entry draft.

Duh.

I don't want either of those things but I feel your pain recently. Wings look so fragile. Nyquist just scored and you guys will have to see the corner he picked. Didn't look much bigger than the puck.

DeKeyser checked from behind and he gets a penalty for closing his hand on the puck. You gotta be kidding me?

And the Wild tie the game. If they Wings didn't need any help losing games.
